Since when does a news article need to back up testimony? Sondland has established that he, along with Trump, Giulani, Rick Perry, and Kurt Volker were working together to pressure the Ukrainians into investigating Burisma and the 2016 elections in exchange for a meeting between Zelensky and Trump. This process started in May, before the hold was placed on the military aid. That is a clear and obvious quid pro quo. The money doesn't come into play until months later.

Was a reason ever provided for why the white house decided to delay the foreign aid in the first place? Sounds odd.
Today was yet another example of the actual testimony completely contradicting the opening statement.
Sondland claimed there was quid pro quo then went on to testify that there most assuredly was NOT quid pro quo.

Assuming innocence of bribery, most obvious theory to me is that it's done to force a country's leader that's dodging you to actively seek your staff out for dialogue or a meeting. So he waited until he could verify Zalinski was serious about his campaign promises of transparency. The delay did not violate any law, and it was not conditional on any investigation per the testimony of every person called so far. |
