@ Alymorel and Avelle: What I'd love is to be a useful Paladin, hehe. I'm sorrowfully aware of the current situation in FFXI, though--I think I'll get PLD to 80 and dawdle on a few more jobs. RDM seems close enough. :)

Anye, you should level DRK!

Shares a lot of the gear that PLD has both for melee and for tanking...such as Perle, Homam, PDT and MDT gear etc.

This is actually a pretty good idea, outside of the fact that DRK is a pretty subpar DD. :/

That's pretty much what I'm trying to get across, People waste a spot with a PLD who does average dmg, when they could have a sam, mnk, war etc etc which will deal significantly more damage.

THF??? lol

BLASPHEMY!! Level the complete ANTITHESIS of Paladin!?!

I think not. I'd rather level Puppetmaster.

Don't get stuck in the RDM rut, lol. Can guarantee you the moment people realize you have one, your PLD will virtually disappear in terms how much it will get used in the future.

I'd rather have a nin tank byakko. Can evade really well
How long until a competent DD pulls hate off the nin? The first weaponskill?
Sure if your DDs go all ou from the start and you have incompenent nin.

Granted it's a little harder now since the update. But before that it only took a couple of min for a nin/drk to get capped CE. And keeping up capped VE is a cinch

I want to see a monk tank Yilbegan, enough said.
Yilbegan is one of the rare situations where PLD truly excels, but partly because one of the best DDs for it is BLU/THF and thus CE generation is easily handled.

^This. I'd take a PLD tank on Byakko any day.
DDs can tank Byakko fine if they know what they're doing.

It was a joke, anyways :3 No offense to any PUPs! One of my good friends is a sexy PUP.

At any rate, I was going to level WAR for the same reasons Giazz brought DRK up--same DD gear, more or less :)

If they really want to make tanks useful again, they need to remove the 10,000 CE/VE hate ceiling or at least let the tank jobs bypass it. I doubt they really give a ***though at this point, they're too busy making FF14 a worse game than FF11 in every way.

This... and make more nasty mobs that aren't DDtank friendly.

Depends on the person playing the job tbh; my PLD has saved and will continue to save lives~
This is true, a DD or BLU who isn't comfortable tanking will easily fall behind a PLD.

ROFL. That actually works, with my name.

安夜 = anye, "Peaceful night"

埯夜 = anye, "Dark (evil) night"

Depends on what you are fighting really. Especially as higher lvls bring lower emnity gained per dmg dealt.

Bring more lvl 10 mules for super duper cure cheats!!! And blu/thfs are beastly enough to make even post update rdms keep hate

PLD is still a great job. Period.
Maybe not the best for every situation, but it shure as hell makes some NM's easier. (JoLove, Byakko. etc)

I still think pld is very useful especially as said if your dd's can /thf.

Can go bat ***crazy in damage and pld is very well suited to absorb it.

In abyssea/dyna/limbus(not bosses)/merit plds only use is mob selection for dds though.

Love's questionable, Faust shouldn't require a tank at all, and Byakko's been DDtankable for some time.

Keep in mind you can change jobs in FFXI... it's easy to optimize for a given situation, which is why hybrid jobs tend to fall behind. Versatility in a single job has been superseded by versatility in your job spread :(

Heh, so glad I left the game when I did. It was already going in a bad direction but now it's just a joke. Pointless jobs (for the most part) or jobs that can be replaced with others more effectively making the first job situational at best. Maybe that will change once they finally incorporate the final level cap and work in their updates.

They're sort of getting there. Some jobs that were behind got big updates, others fell behind further... time will tell.

I'm all for making the most out of your favorite jobs but SE has a long way to go to balance things out, and I don't know if they'll pull it off for even most jobs.

When you don't have the support to allow people to feed tp to the mob and so only run in for ws and SA/TA? Plenty of people do stuff without having enough support available and not having low emnity DDs

You'd get more mileage out of BLMs in this situation.

Sure. If you have them. And you don't mind waiting on hate and such. Lately I've been dealing with people with limited amount of jobs lvld /cry
