Really, I don't mind the election thread, it's a current situation as is whatever Trump is doing. There seems to be some confusion as to what Random P&R is and isn't. RP&R was to combine all those little threads that pop up to flood the front page into one thread, it was never intended to be the enormous ***show it became. In hindsight, rather than periodically remake the thread, we probably should've just locked the original.
Why? Well, we now have section bans, that is a ban from a section. There are some repeat offenders who use RP&R as a sanctuary and dodge the warrant for a section ban. RP&R is just another P&R thread, not the bastardized ***show that it has become.

I thought the dual-block idea was a good one but it was abused. I'd also think a mod/admin mandated block would be a good idea but people would probably be pissed over it and it wouldn't be worth the outrage.

I totally understood some of the complaints in terms of guide makers who had previously blocked people. Having access to information in the guide threads while being logged on take precedence. Making it work would require we have the ability to flag posts to bypass, it's not really worth it.
