Resisting urge to post in this thread... failed. Potentially saying goodbye to my rep from those people who take it badly. xD
Honestly, I think it's awesome that people are willing to just be out there. I'm not talking about "rub it in your faces" out there like what annoys me with some homosexuals today (I'm gay, therefore I want a parade in honor of my sexuality, etc), but it's nice to see people aren't afraid to be... well, themselves.
I actually have a wolf-sona personally, and though I'm not as "out-there" as some people get, I'm actually quite comfortable with my choice of lifestyle. I don't parade it and go "oh god everyone, look at me I'm a furry! Isn't that just awesome!?" No, instead I keep it to myself, personal life is personal. With other furries (the few in my area) I generally tend to be relaxed, but again we don't go around parading it 'cept for the occasional tail for the fun and laughs at people's reactions.
The thing is, people tend to take "furry" really badly. Out of all the reactions I've gotten from people, the two most common are "wait, like those people who have sex in costumes from Tyra Banks?" (this was a day of rage for most of the fandom) or some mention of that stupid CSI episode. Truth is, this is a common misconception, and people always seem to make the assumption that a group's deviants apply to the whole. Just like every man isn't a pedo just because some men are, most furries aren't into fursuit sex. >_> It's actually one of the less socially accepted groups to the point of people hating to be associated with them. I know I do.
Plus there's people like that pic posted above. The "hardcore" furries are just as annoying. Most of us are relatively normal people. I use the word "relatively" on purpose. xD
Honestly, the suiting itself isn't bad. It's a fun way to get into character and mess around, like cosplaying. Not to mention that with suits you generally tend to get a bit of anonymity so it's fun to just let loose even if you're a little embarrassed or shy. I'm saving up for one right now, though it's going to be a long time. The average-quality full suits are like... over $1k. Then you've got to get a fan so you don't overheat after an hour of messing around... oi.
But overall, this thread should live more. =( I need to make a few more furry friends in-game. I only know two on Valefor and one doesn't play much! D:
Replace all the fur concepts with homosexuality and you've got me. xD
I have a fox character and an ermine character which house some of my sillier personality traits. Can't quite determine which one is more representative of me.
...And your avatar keeps weirding me out. o________o

Yeah, the pricing on that stuff gets out of hand, but there certainly are no shortage of furries with money on-hand.
I got to try on a suit a couple years back; it belonged to a friend of mine I'd met on the 'net. Walked around a bit at AC. Tunnel vision + temperature increase 20 degrees GET~!
Haha I don't want to gay up this thread too much. . .
Needs moat furries!!!
Lawl. Unfortunately, you can kind of link the two. I think the gay population among furries is something like 35% (heterosexual being 53% or something).
I saw a few mentions of AC... looking forward to going to it again this year with m'mate. We usually are a bit uncomfortable at conventions 'cause we don't know anyone and have only been to a few smaller ones so it's something we're getting used to, but this year I've got some folks I'm gonna meet, and it'll be awesome. :3

B'aww. I went the last two years, but it's looking like I won't be going this year. My friend's got plans. I could go by myself, but that's no fun. D:

>:< I saw your post history; you were waiting 20 hours to find a perfect chance to post that.
AC stands for AnthroCon, a big furry convention. It's held in Pennsylvania every year. Annoyingly, the news around that time only catches the "weirder" furs just so they can get more viewers. Blah.
I realized that after I posted lol, I still want a full fursuit ; ; and to go to AC, but its always a choice between AC and Otakon since they usually happen around the same time.
With all those other threads going around, I thought I'd try this one. For those not into this fandom please don't make assumptions on all of us based on the actions of a few. You can't name one group in the world who haven't been given a bad name by a minority of people in said group.
