FFXI Furry Community, Who Are You?

With all those other threads going around, I thought I'd try this one. For those not into this fandom please don't make assumptions on all of us based on the actions of a few. You can't name one group in the world who haven't been given a bad name by a minority of people in said group.

Don't really care about the trolls, but gotta give an honest o/ to this! Been drawing anthro/furry stuff for a long time, even before I knew of the fandom. It's fun and unlimited, and well beyond the overused stereotype that trolls like to focus on. 9_9

afaik, being furry means that you're into the entire spiel. dressing-up, getting-off, (as animals) etc etc.

There are many levels to the Furry Fandom, from liking anthropomorphic art to yiffing in fursuits. I'm closer to the former myself.

And to the question of if I'm a real Furry/Troll I picked this up at my first Con, Furnal Equinox, just last month.

I'm hopin' to hit up Anthrocon this year :> Depends on if I get the assistant language teacher job in Japan or not. FA account is konekonoarashi and my main character that I use for myself is a simple Bengal Tigress (with heart shaped white ear dots). Other characters I have that I like to draw are Vinera (a green mutant cat with a stupidly long split tail and horns) and Rika, a red panda.

I think the costuming aspect is kinda fun -- I always liked cosplay in terms of the anime realm and feel it's pretty much the same thing. It's just fun to dress up as someone, or something, else :D

Took me years and years of sneaking around with the artwork and some pretty steamy fantasies in my teens before I've just come out and admit it a few years ago in my mid-twenties.

and the OP is right. you can't judge an entire community based on a few bad apples.

by 'liking' do you mean 'pleasuring oneself while looking at'?

No to me it's just art, but if you wanted to pleasure yourself while looking at the Mona Lisa, or Starry Night I wouldn't hold it against you.

so furry 'artwork' is at the same level of quality as masterpiece works of art. i didn't know it was taken that seriously.

Markus is saying he likes furry artwork for its artistic value and not necessarily sexually. Just like how people can value Mona Lisa as an art and not jack-off material (she certainly is not jack-off material haha). Your repeated statements of "comparing furry art to supposed masterpieces" is a strawman and is irrelevant.

Also, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

P.S. personally I think the mona lisa is overrated, people just make such outlandish "insights" into a simple painting of a not-so-attractive-half-smiling-woman-painted-in-a-special-technique (in my perception, of course).

starry night, however, is truly a piece of work that draws you into the night sky (because it depicts it in a different-from-reality imaginative fashion).

i didn't say that there was anything wrong with it. but on that same note i don't call porn 'art.' i certainly wouldn't compare it to what is considered a masterpiece.

Debates are often implied.

Any artwork can be used as porn if its sufficiently sexy enough(statue of david, paintings of aphrodite, etc.). And any porn can be described as art if it has sufficient merit (in technique, setting, description, creativity etc.). The latter is rare in the video/photo media, but is quite common in the drawing/painting media (after all, the art must be pretty damn good in the first place to even appeal sexually, people don't jack off to stick figures).

dude... of all the deranged things on the interwebs. i highly doubt the innocence of the stick figure remains untainted.
