Is it worth it? /sea all for asura is 3,400 and fenrir is 791. Is there enough people around to play and get stuff done?
By K123 2025-08-29 10:20:10
3400 is 600 active players not afk, 600 bots, thousands afk. I bet 800 population servers are like 300 active players not afk, some bots and the rest afk

No one can answer for you, but that last post is accurate.
Asura is NOT 3500 people. It's 2500 bots and boxes.
So the difference in actual players is not much different. However. The most important part is are YOU capable of socializing enough to assimilate.
If you're incapable of being a sociable creature, it doesn't matter where you go. Don't show up like a lost puppy and hope someone will find you.

The only shouts we have are the exp bots.
There's like one shell the rest are little cliques that are relatively unknown unless you network
It's quiet and mostly peaceful
Edit
It can be hard to get stuff done

It can be hard to get stuff done
This is what Lakshmi was like over a decade ago for me. Complete ghost town. Shouting for HTBFs and would take hours for me to find people. Having a steady LS is great, but even with that, unless you multibox, you won't always have people at your disposal to get stuff done, which could be frustrating and make you regret moving.
You might be able to grab several linkshells from Concierge and pop in regularly to make friends/form organic groups over there. That is something I started doing on Asura. Just grabbed a few newb linkshells and helped people get stuff done. If there's something higher level you want to get done, help bring them up so they can participate with you later, or just seek out a higher level linkshell in general that has active endgame players. You can also actively look for Discord groups for that server, since fewer people use in-game chat and are more inclined to hop on voice instead.
tldr - you can make it work, but beware it's going to depend a lot on YOU for it to not be a slog

This isn't for op, but for whoever needs to hear it..
Probably my whole server.
A thing I see far to often and this goes for all servers
"My playtime is chaotic"
"So I play by myself"
Brother it's an MMO
If you have challenges making friends irl you are gonna have challenges making friends in game
Putting yourself out there is hard, being the first one is harder.
But get comfortable with it and you will go places.

Absolutely Jinxs. I'm constantly amazed (and repeatedly rebuff) the statement that somehow everyone's playtime is so random and chaotic that it never lines up with any other player, anywhere in the world.
It's like people imagine you need to have a 100% rigid, never changing schedule and a static group of 6 players to do any content with any human being ever.
Just log in whenever you log in, see who's online, and play with them. It's not an all-or-nothing situation, you can group up with someone different every night, or see which "regulars" are online in your linkshell every night.
If you put in a modicum of effort (and especially if you help to raise up the newbs), it's not difficult to find people to play, even at the most random, weird times.

But also, I only single box myself, but will log a buddy's old character in during free play. Just figured I'd give you a heads up on seeing trains of people on Fenrir. Though sometimes they get stuck and held up on corners, like Bouncing Bertha.

Could be different on Fenrir than Carbuncle but I've been online at weird *** times and pretty much always see people in my linkshell asking about doing merits, HTBF, ambuscade, nyzul, ody, etc. with each other.
It's currently ~6:30 PM EST and there are 36 characters in the LS (30 players, excluding multi-boxes), 4 of which just had a conversation with each other.
So...I wouldn't say that you need to play by yourself.

We don't have shouts.
Friends play with friends, linkshell plays with linkshell.
People are relatively afraid to pick up group, especially here.
Rare but you will see Japan shout for sortie, ambu, masupo(merit?)
Not much from the English community.

Master levels.
We also don't have shouts here and most things are run with friends, discorda, or linkshells.
I don't really see how that changes anything though. I'm agreeing with and reinforcing most of what others are saying here. You need to be social, make friends, and network.
You don't need to 6 box, and most other people aren't 6boxing. They're playing with their friends, like you should.

We're telling you. It is.
Things are either being 6-boxed or the little groups are set. And because everything newish is 6 person capped (for most things, insert random nitpick here that you can bring 18 to Omen or something) those groups are already established, just extended out. The 6 person group you do sortie with is also who you do or did Odyssey / Sheol with, they'll be the same people you do Dyna with and probably the same group you'll do Limbus with

Mhm. So there's not a single free agent on all of Fenrir? Every single person is in a full 6-man static that never loses a member, and it's impossible to find any other human being to play with because everyone is taken and absolutely no other players ever start there or return?
You're right, it is different from Carbuncle. We get returning players frequently, and it's not at all difficult to join a linkshell, make friends there, then form a group with them. There are lots of returning players and they are grouping up with each other and completing content together.

No don’t try and explain it to him, he knows the server better than the actual players here and definitely doesn’t sound like a dude who had his Cheerios pissed into every 13,182 seconds

Okay, the thing with Fenrir is that you get the six-box one-man armies, they just kind of do their thing. You've got your endgame linkshells that are sort of like you need to be the son of a member or save the life of a member to get in. And then there's sort of... everyone else, getting by on scraps.
There's one big open-recruitment linkshell that you can network in which has membership which touches a lot of those endgame shells, and then there a bunch of others where you'll find like five people online at any given time. None of them seem to be running events consistently.
I don't know if we even have linkshells doing Omen any more, seems like all I ever see going in is low-man runs; that and Vagary are basically your entry-level learn-to-endgame events and nobody needs them enough to get a crew together to do them consistently.
Personally, I've reached the point where I'm doing every craft, trying to gear every job, just so I can stumble into something that makes me a valuable enough prospect to keep me on reserve for when one member of a static calls in sick. And that's with trioboxing to get me through the lower-level stuff.
I remember one guy, he got introduced to a Dynamis shell, right off the bat they're like "you need to gear red mage", not long after he was rolling full six-box, and then he just disappeared.

What others have said is true (lots of multiboxers, smaller linkshells) if you shout for stuff, you will probably get responses (eventually) sometimes even quickly, but if you rely on that best look elsewhere.
People are friendly and minimal drama that I've experienced. AH is kinda dead apart from a few endgame items. There's not much of a crowding issue.

I don't believe anyone on Fenrir will disagree with the perspectives presented here.
I do like Fenrir, it is the right server for me... even with those damn unicorn scrubs hanging around.
