I had 5 spaces left after opening the chest. It didn't show in my inventory. All I got was 5k, 2 shards and a scale.
By Garfield 2026-06-07 23:18:57
I'm less inclined to believe this without a picture and knowing what color of chest it was.
In ~100 5k lucky chests across my 3 characters, I've not seen this and our chest has been gold since week 1.
I feel like there'd be more reports if it were true.
By Dodik 2026-06-08 03:47:21
If I were doing Limbus climbs, colours of chests would all start to blend together.

Mains = 30% chance at Matters
Alts = 95% chance at Matters
Eyeball math but pretty sure its correct. :P Accurate for me. My alt has a 100% matter rate on Temenos while my main has about 25% :/

I've got ~500 matter across my 3 toons, I can say with 100% confidence this is not a thing. 5k chest grant 2 shards, and matter, 3k chest grants 1 shard, and chance at matter.

I had 5 spaces left after opening the chest. It didn't show in my inventory. All I got was 5k, 2 shards and a scale. I parsed all my logs. The only times I didnt get a matter after hitting a 5k chest was either pre-Sep 2025, when matters didnt exist, or the first 6ish weeks after they were added because my smol server wasnt dealing with the mannequins. We didnt kill them the first few weeks before SE changed it to a 4 week rotation, and we were *** out of that first 4 week rotation because they werent downed in time.
Otherwise every 5k box came with a matter.
Again, I'm not calling you a liar, but out of these three options:
A-The "you got a matter" packet didnt reach your client
B-Your server didnt kill all 44 NM's the month prior
C-Matter is actually 99.99% with treasure chest upgrade from killing all 44 NM's and hitting 5k box.
B is unlikely as you're on Asura.
C would have been mentioned by now by someone else, especially from lower pop servers who may have not cleared all NM's (like mine) wondering why they got a 5k box with no matter.
A is the answer I have to go with by default. Are you meticulously tracking the matters you've obtained and track how many are in your inventory vs used? If you have matters in your inventory and are not meticulously tracking it, its possible you did get it and just didnt notice because it went to the already existing stack.
Of course, you can never rule out the tried and true Big D: "spaghetti code and/or AI vibe code bug"

Thanks for the lengthy reply :)
I use pen and paper to log every climb and meticulous about if the chest contains a matter or not and if it's an HQ (5K)chest. I only started logging my climbs on 1st March 2026 and all the HQs are marked that I got the Matter.
Yes I store Matters in my Mog Sack after I get them cuz I like to leave my inventory with at least 8 slots. But the actual on-screen log didn't show it.

If youre absolutely certain its not A, then its gotta be D. It probably wont amount to anything, but Id file a bug report on OF saying you opened an upgraded 5k box and didnt get matter, which should be 100% on HQ box with all NMs killed.
Im highly skeptical about it not being 100% only because its been 8ish months and we still have people saying “I opened all four different wings and didnt see 5k box, its broken”. Surely one person would have said “I opened HQ box and didnt get matter” by now.

Wonder if the weapons will only use "materials" or matters and materials to rank up
It's not stated

materials are used to craft them, not to rank them

They're 100% going to have ranks too, it's just not stated if matters or double dipping materials
...or both that'd be *** great
By ryukin182 2026-06-10 01:09:29
If its double dipping shared with gear, ill be honest, ill deserve it. I knew this game would do this to me

Of course it's going to use matters. You capped Ring/Earring, then they dropped 25 pieces of gear (5 sets) that takes half a year to complete one set. 15+ more weapons/shield/instruments for yall. You're never finishing this. Ever.

In the patch notes for this month they reiterated the augmentation process including talking about shards and making jewels. It almost certainly takes jewels to augment the weapons.
They're crafted using material which means likely tradeable and so not part of augments. My guesses.

"Ark Angel" NMs in general:
-Higher Evasion/Magic Evasion than previous NMs, Distract and Frazzle are recommended. A strong RDM can land Bind without Frazzle with Saboteur up, but there is a chance of resist without either.
-No resistance to Distract, Frazzle, Bind, Slow/Para/Addle, Impact, etc. They resist Sleep and Silence, but can be immunobroken. Unsure about Break. They still have Flee speed if not CC'd.
-Defense DOES seem to work this time unlike the previous NMs, either that or their damage is just much lower than the other Limbus NMs. Non-tanks were getting one-shot by certain WSes, tanks were generally fine against one target.
-In general, these seem more similar to Wave 3 Volte NMs than the previous Limbus NMs. If you can Bind/Sleep all of them and focus one at a time, they're much easier than Omega and Ultima. If you can't for one reason or another, things can get...messy. A PLD pulling with Invincible at the start can give you ample time to CC everything.
-Music is really cool, but it goes away once the NMs all die :(
Apollyon:
Recommended kill order - Mithra -> Tarutaru -> Hume -> Galka -> Wyvern -> Elvaan. Silence the Tarutaru, Silence the Hume while holding it to avoid Utsusemi blocking Bind. Despite using Ark Angel weapons, they do NOT have the Ark Angels' unique WSes.
Mithra - BST/THF
-Mithra by herself is rather weak, but her summoned Korrigan is an absolute nightmare. Hold the pet FAR away from everyone else or prepare to be spammed with debuffs and die.
-Uses Familiar, making the Korrigan the most dangerous enemy in the fight. It gains significant Regain and massive Haste/damage buffs. Bind/Sleep it or die, pretty much.
-Once the Mithra falls, the Korrigan will NOT automatically despawn. It'll despawn once it deaggroes instead, which may be worthwhile to force to get this stupid thing out of the fight.
Tarutaru - BLM/DRK
-Casts -ja spells, AoE Impact, and maybe Meteor? Didn't see much of it, just Silence it and it loses pretty much all of its threat.
-Can use Scythe Weapon Skills, but they aren't that threatening. Silence and zerg it, pretty much.
Hume - WAR/NIN
-Casts Utsusemi, which makes Binding it dangerous. Dispelga can wipe shadows without breaking Bind/Sleep, or you can just Silence it.
-Uses Sword Weapon Skills (including Glory Slash) and has Mighty Strikes. Circle Blade with Mighty Strikes can be painful if unprepared.
Galka - SAM/DRG
-Summoned Wyvern does almost no damage, but has 100% Triple Attack and Enaspir. If it stays on a mage for more than a few seconds, they won't be in much danger but will lose all their MP. It will NOT be resummoned if killed.
-Galka uses Great Katana Weapon Skills and Meikyo Shisui. High single target damage, but no Dragonfall means absolutely no AoE whatsoever.
Elvaan - PLD/WHM
-Very high Shield Block rate, damage it from the back.
-Uses Sword Weapon Skills (including Uriel Blade) and SPAMS Invincible. It offensively does almost no damage, but Invincible spam makes this fight a slog. Leave it for last.
Temenos:
Recommended kill order - Mithra -> Elvaan -> Tarutaru -> Hume -> Galka. Silence the Mithra and Elvaan forever, Silence the Tarutaru while fighting.
Mithra - BLM/SMN
-Casts high tier Black Magic, idr if it does -ga spells but I did see Tier V-VI spells for high damage. Silence it ASAP.
-Can use Astral Flow, summoning a random avatar for massive AoE damage.
-Dies very quickly when focused, which she should be given the AoEs she can throw around.
Elvaan - RDM/NIN
-Casts AoE debuffs and enspells, Silence it or be ready to spam remedy/panacea. Doesn't seem to cast Ninjutsu, just prefers AoE debuffs. Enspell can give all of the NMs a notable damage increase, but it can be Dispelled easily.
-Uses Katana Weapon Skills and Chainspell, spamming debuffs if it's not Silenced. While it's Silenced, it's not very threatening.
Hume - DRK/SAM
-Casts Absorb spells infrequently, doesn't seem to have any other spells.
-Uses Great Sword Weapon Skills, with a seeming preference towards Shockwave. Poison Potions can be helpful. Can use Meikyo Shisui.
-Shockwave is the only true threat, it dies pretty quickly when focused assuming you aren't all Sleeping.
Tarutaru - BLU/THF
-Uses the elemental BLU spells (Blinding Fulgor, Scouring Spate, etc.) somewhat infrequently. Didn't see the nastier ones like Entomb, but Silence still works fine.
-Uses Dagger Weapon Skills and Perfect Dodge. Can do very high physical damage against non-tanks with WSes like Mandalic Stab and Dancing Edge. As a THF it seems to have higher Evasion, but Saboteur Distract III still works great.
-Perfect Dodge is annoying, but it dies fairly quickly when that's not active.
Galka - MNK/PLD
-Can't cast any spells, but it has Counter and hits harder compared to the other NMs. One Inch Punch, in particular, can do over 5k damage to non-tanks.
-Uses Hundred Fists and Invincible. Counter Hundred Fists with Battuta or Intervene if possible, and watch out for Counter spam.

i'm a bit confused by how the AA pop, it says "monsters will appear after a set period of time has elapsed upon defeating all of the Phase 2 notorious monsters" so this is randomly after Wave 2? so potentially before Omega/ultima?

I thought they were using those terms in a slightly improper way meaning "Wave 1" = all the free roaming NMs.
"Wave 2" = all the stuff connected to Ultima and Omega

Thought I'd share - It takes all 5 shards (1 of each) and 1 of each matters to make the new Jewel for the weapons.

I love how we wasted a year or more of precious dev time to make weapons worse than Dyna-D weapons from 9 years ago. If this is their idea of a bridge to get to Primes they built a half finished bridge next to a 9 year old functioning one then gave up.

I legit don't understand. They share matters....which is horrible design but not super duper surprising.....
But I can't explain the weapons themselves being worse then kaja weapons.

your asking for to much now.
I didn't see a thread dedicated to new-new Limbus so here's one with some findings. I’ve continued to edit this post with new discoveries made throughout the thread.
For entrance and zone info, really the SE post is best:
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/62862-June-10-2025-%28JST%29-Version-Update?p=667175&viewfull=1#post667175
Obtaining the Key Items / Units
Kill mobs to fill the bar in the upper left. Seems to take 6-15+ mobs per floor, this increases based on the chosen mob level and number of people in your party. You continue to get units as long as you want to sit there and keep killing and refill the bar, but at half the rate. Whether this is comparable to the units gained by continuing to move floors and finishing the event to get the chest bonus is up a function of your personal kill speed and group size.
Each Temporary KI looks like "Apollyon SE #1 data", and you get 1 per floor. You keep them until you open a chest and then they are all lost. You get a KI for filling up the bar at the top of the screen on each floor. I didn't count but I think it requires like 10 mobs per floor (this apparently varies by level choice). Once you get a KI, you should get to keep it even if you leave Limbus. You would lose any progress on any un-completed floors, but this is like 6-10 kills so no biggie.
You can enter any section / floor at any time. You don't need to go in any type of order or "climb" if you're missing one of the upper KIs from a run that got interrupted.
Once you choose a level (119-130), I think you need to keep that level choice until you open a chest. If you adjust it after getting some KIs, you might lose them. The NPC dialogue isn't too clear on this.
There were no direct drops from mobs, of any kind.
Mob Details
All the mobs seem to have pretty serious DT, probably 50% (confirm by Brixy as 50%, per Air Knife expected enspell dmg). But they aren't hard. They hit like 130s. AoE/Cleaving is extremely nerfed.
Pulling mobs is weird. Any initial spell cast before initial aggro / dynamic level adjustment may land, but will not remain on the mob. You will not see a message to reflect this.
If you pull with silence (while it's un-aggroed), it appears the silence instantly wears without any message, likely due to the dynamic-level adjustment which happens as soon as you aggro (credit to Moonlightagb for this theory, I think it's correct). Silencing twice is probably needed. This doesn't matter much in a party, but if you're solo and mob density is high this effect could be pretty annoying. Other examples later verified by others: If you pull with Immanence, the skill chain will not complete. If you pull with Dia, you can sleep right after.
Mob respawn is on the order of a few minutes but I was pretty lonely this morning. I had one floor with a couple groups and it felt faster, might be dynamic spawn rate.
Aside from the initial-aggro weirdness, everything can be debuffed and slept as expected. Sneak/invis work fine, but true aggro mobs remain like Imps and such.
Getting the goods
In order for the chest to open, you need to finish all of the zone, not just one section. So Apollyon zone is 18 KIs, Temenos zone should be 25 KIs. If the chest says "it won't open", you need more KIs. The chests are located at the exit of each "top floor" in each section. However, you can only open a chest once you have finished all the sections (NW,NE,SW,SE,etc).
After getting all KIs in Apollyon, each character had earned:
About 4000 units from killing mobs and climbing floors
3000 units from finding a shiny ??? on the ground and clicking it
3000 units (one character in the party got 5000 units, no idea why) directly from the chest
So each character of a 6-person party left a ~90 minute run with 10-12k units. EP was ~15k/hr, but this is ML50s fighting level 130s. Maybe it's better if you're lower.
My initial limit on Apollyon units was 30,000. After I opened the chest, that increased to 33,000. It looks to increase 3000 more with each chest open.
Apollyon Units are used to upgrade AF pieces to +4.
Temenos Units are used to upgrade relic pieces to +4.
The upgrade costs are:
Head: 20k units
Body: 30k units
Hands: 15k units
Legs: 25k units
Feet: 10k units
Once I got to 10k units, the furnace did allow me to trade a foot piece, though I didn't choose to complete the process. Trading any other slot did nothing.
I did get the title Apollyon Razer, which I think is just the same as the old title lol
