Game is great if you are returning or slightly behind the curve like my group is. We've still got to challenge the highest tiers in Odyssey and Sortie, but once those are done, there's not much else other than to rinse and repeat.

Limbus isn't the fun content it could have been. I think many were expecting it to be at least somewhat near what the original was. This may be a good time for some folks to take a year out, especially if they have done everything this game has to offer. It won't be going anywhere.

take a year out,

I love this advice because it enables the developer to create ***content more because now we won't be around to *** about it. Dev brown-nosers are the reason we are here now

"Take a break and come back later" is a common trope for lack of content or bad content/bugs being thrown out.

It also ignores the fact that people taking a break means less money being put into the game, unless of course you're thinking those people are going to keep their sub going and just not use it.

Lack of subs might be the only thing to make a difference, however. What that difference is, who knows.

Yeah I kinda wished it was more. I really wanted instanced content similar to Omen only with the Limbus themes with bosses and such. Open zones that you just farm monsters for points and open a handful of chests every week that may or may not drop a crafting item for mediocre accessories is just boring.

The framework is decent enough, they just need to add poped jailers or another Omega / Ultima fights and increase the stats on Artifact / Relic +4.

Nail on the head. I have to remember that original version was a game-generation ago, and I'm older, so maybe I'm just not into killing mindless fodder for points endlessly anymore, and prefer something a bit more engaging. I'm still waiting on the final version of Limbus, which is why I'm on no hurry to grind it now. I'm hopeful it'll be better than right now since it's still being developed in stages. Right now, it's nowhere near as fun as the original.

Don't get me wrong, I used to complain about the lack of content for years. I did it in-game, on the official forums, and here. I’d shout it from the rooftops for the whole of the UK to hear. Did it make a difference? None whatsoever.

Instead of wasting my energy on a really old game that SE clearly doesn’t care much about, I took a year out. Played other games. Went outside. Did things that didn’t piss me off. I told my LS not to wait for me because I might not be back. After about six months, I started to miss it. Not because of the content, but because I enjoyed playing with my group.

While I was away for a year, Sortie came out, so I was already behind on that when I returned. Since then, I haven’t been playing FFXI every single day or rushing through content. I knew that would just burn me out again. Maybe that time will come, but for now, I’ve had a good couple of years. The game didn’t die, and most of my group was still there when I came back. It was nice.

At this point, everyone should accept that this game isn’t getting new content quickly. It’ll be buggy and barebones. We’ll enjoy it for a few weeks, then start complaining about how bad it is. Some players will take breaks and actually be happier for it. Why stay miserable in an old game when there are other things to do?

I’m far from being a dev brown-noser. They could do better, but I know they’re extremely limited in what they can make. They’ve said it countless times, and the evidence is easy to find.

What I can’t forgive is how they keep certain awful things in the game, like Shinryu’s drop rates. I made a post on the OF tearing into them with valid points from different players explaining why it’s absurd. It still is. They didn’t listen because those rates push people to make extra characters for AMAN Trove. That’s the only reason it stays that way.

When subs drop, SE pulls people back with a new Bonanza weapon. “Here, have a free REMA on us. Remember that Shinryu fight you hated? We fixed it.” They only react when money’s involved. The devs care to a degree, but management runs the show, and that means doing whatever brings in more cash.

Limbus is a pile of crap. No surprise there. Will it be the same in two years? Maybe not. We’ll have to wait and see. Complaining won’t change their pace or quality of work. That’s just how it is, and I accepted that when I came back. People can keep venting, and that’s fine because it’s their time. I just wanted to explain why I think Limbus sucks, even though FFXI itself isn’t that bad right now. It’s still good unless you’ve done literally everything, and at that point, you’ve got to decide if you want to keep repeating the same stuff every day.

There have been much longer periods with literally zero new content, as well as pieces of content that were not well received at all until several revisions. For me what did it was the transparency of design for the stuff that they do release. Maybe just having enough variety of things you aren't completely maxed out changes that perspective, I don't know.

Has the drop rate on Matter, specifically Alabaster, been horrible for other servers/characters the last month? Seems like my group has gone 0/6 a depressing number of times consecutively... Maybe its due to lack of NM kills? Or did SE plummet the drop rate after the initial release?

Drop rate resets monthly now, so if your servers NM kill count was low pre-maintenance, you're *** for another 2 weeks.

HOWEVER, considering all the spaghetti code, the drop rate calculations could have been inadvertently altered.
