There was a Spanish, flamenco, double layered remake of Carmen released in 1983. (Highly recommended.)

The matador actor was bald. In one scene you could smell the testosterone through the screen. I would have done him right there on the floor of the theater. The Carmen actress did on the floor of the dressing room. Masterfully produced, acted and staged sequence.
