not seeing this mentioned but in the final phase, (after 2nd benediction and killing all the addss) using a special attack of different damage types consistently breaks his shield. cycling between sickle slash (piercing), heavy strike (blunt), subduction (wind magic), delta thrust (slash) was always breaking his shield. i'm guessing ranged attack is one of these as well. each time he applied the shield it was different. melee attacks were not doing it, confirmed by using clubs but heavy strike was still the trigger.

Way late to the party this month, but barring kiting solos all of the VD clears I've seen talked about use RUN/PLD tanks (usually with ranged damage), so here's a melee option on MNK.
You don't actually need a tank for this, any decently tanky DD should be fine.
Fight notes:
Part 1:
Standard buffs. Mechanics give you lots of damage and they have low EVA, so you can afford to swap some offensive buffs out for more survivability if you need to. Earth Carol was probably not doing anything for me here, Minne would have been better.
Pull the boss, kill the WAR+PLD. The only threat here is the WAR countering you too much. Still, not that much trouble on MNK. On lower HP DDs, I'd consider swapping some offensive buffs for Barrier/Minne.
DD the boss until Benediction. Wait on debuffs until after Benediction so they don't get removed.
Silence the BLM and pull it 20' away from the group, along with the boss. Don't forget to move the bubble.
Take out the BLM. Boss immediately does AOE Curse + Virus + Hate Reset.
Part 2:
Most of the fight is getting this part right
Tank needs to immediately regain hate and hold it through the upcoming cures. Provoke + Warcry + a few extra misc JAs was enough for me to work consistently.
Meanwhile, mages do immediate Cursna + Viruna on tank. I also did Chakra at this point to get HP up quickly, other jobs will need a cure instead. Recommend having multiple mages (or /WHM) assigned to curing different things. Letting WHM do everything takes too long. You absolutely need to get Cursna+Viruna+Cure off before the next TP move.
Afterwards, accession Cursna + Viruna on everyone else once the tank is safe. You only have to do this once, so Yagrush is not really needed if two people are /SCH. I had WHM+RDM.
Finally, WS during TP moves until it dies, with a Stona each time. Goes faster if you buffer a WS between his TP moves so the SC window always overlaps with his next TP move.
TL;DR: The two main dangers are getting countered by the WAR in the first part and not getting the tank cursna + viruna + cure fast enough on the second part. Damage is actually fairly low outside of those specific things, so many DD jobs should be able to tank it.

Been doing something very similar clearing it with just run/geo/rdm and sometimes a cor, with run as the dd for 2nd part. Can see MNK probably speeding it up for sure though.
Main advantage of doing the "ranged" style with cor imo is they can usually fit leaden + thunder shot in one tp move window for like 150k+ dmg each time. You can actually push thunder shot to 99k on this one with a good set and gambit, probably not worth the effort but still. Strategy is basically the same though. (malaise instead of frailty obviously)
One thing worth noting on this part though:
-Silence the BLM and pull it 20' away from the group, along with the boss. Don't forget to move the bubble.
-Afterwards, accession Cursna + Viruna on everyone else once the tank is safe.
If you pull them to 30+ away instead (or move everyone else out of the way, same thing) the curse/virus will only hit the tank (or whoever's holding the BLM anyway). I guess this could potentially lead to some enmity issues with the hate reset if you don't have a tank job and someone else is doing dmg on the first part? It does make the whole start of 2nd part a lot less hectic though. -500mp/tick virus is no fun. :P
By Pantafernando 2023-07-05 12:30:12
Its indeed the most risky moment when the hate reset happens leaving tank unprotected, gravitied and weakened.
Having some DD voking it and quickly get the WHM in position to both cure and stona, while being safe from AoE is key to win.
At this point, really dont need tank. I actually leave mine to die while DDs do their work.
WHM is the MVP this moment. Eber hands gives a lot of protection from stone, and allow DDs to always have TP ready to unleash when the dmg windows is open, while allow some degree of freedom for the WHM to cure from the tp move.
Personally i think thistp move is quite strong. Lately ive been playing on the safe side, on every content over 130 i always throw some minne and gallant roll, eventually magus
Using magus against the turtle really reduce a lot of the dmg output from tp move. Without it normally DDs goes to orange, with it DDs stay safely at yellow.
I actually think that SE, when they are simply giving 30%DT from 3 pieces or empy, they are hinting we must resort to defensive buffs to take the increasing dmg those high lv mobs can deal.
Milleage will vary, but unless youre running with an experienced party that kills really fast, never neglect the defensive buffs

While running this just now we killed it twice with the 'leave the elementalist alive' method without any problems. I pulled to the corner to start and we killed the others adds as necessary. On the 3rd run though for some reason the RDM and DRK got some insane DT and were nearly impossible to kill. The Elementalist ended up dying because of a DoT and there were seemingly random times when the 2 adds would take their normal damage. Eventually all the adds died, the boss Benediction one more time and we kill him. He did not use Wail after the Elementalist was dead. Any know if this was just bugged or a change?

Also, the wiki implies he drops the shield every spell or TP move or at least doesn't say it only happens sometimes. It definitely doesn't happen every time. Have seen the shell not drop for upwards of 2-3 minutes at a time. Unsure if that's just the way it was documented or if it was changed. The Boss also will run out of MP pretty fast and stops casting Cure, often before his final Benediction so there's a lot of waiting for his shield to fall.

Seems like this was changed, my group ran and we saw "the anger of Gu'dha" after the elementalist died, as well as the DRK mob having the same DT as the boss, but seemed like he was taking damage during WS's? not super sure yet. seems like that anger move drops his DT 100% of the time too.

Seems like he does the super duper F you moves if you kill the elementalist before the final set of adds come and go, then he'll use Torment and sadness and that will petri and hate reset, and curse and be super terrible.
My group has done literally 2 runs so it's entirely possible our first run we got super duper lucky, will report back when i have more data from our future runs.

So after his first second benediction and summoning the RDM and DRK his shield seems to be damage-type based. He doesn't run out of mp because he casts Banish IV, Silena, and even Curaga IV (This one does NOT remove his shield). Both the RDM and DRK adds also use the Imperfect Shell Defense ability it seems every time the Boss does although they don't get the visual effect. I think this gives them changing damage-type immunities when they use it. After those 2 adds were dead our WAR switched weapon types and tried different weaponskill so we could disable the bosses shield. Seems to be Slashing, blunt, piercing, or magic possibly. After the 3rd benediction the only skill he uses is The Anger of Gu'Dha which is the big knockback with gravity. Best to move to the same side near the tank with your back to the wall at this point. He always drops his shield using this move.

I feel pretty confident about most of this:
- After the NM uses Benediction the second time and spawns the RDM and DRK he no longer cures the BLM. It's not because of MP as the boss casts Banish IV/Curaga IV and others etc. Instead his shield is now broken by a random damage type and it changes every time he uses Imperfect Shell Defense. This EXTENDS to both of the new adds which is the answer as to why they had seemingly random high DT-. They both use the same move when the boss does it and changes their weakness as well. It looks like it's either Slashing/Blunt/Piercing/Magic. There may be others. I'm not entirely sure if Magic spells and Magic WS are considered the same here cause sometimes the RDM would cast a full damage spell then the WAR would Cloudspitter and it wouldn't break. It seemed it's possible there's certain threshold of damage. Bring 1 of each damage type include Ranged to make this phase faster.
- After the boss uses Benediction the third time he only uses 1 TP move. The Anger of Gu'Dha which is the knockback with gravity which lowers his shield every time. I'm unsure if his shield needs to broken one more time with the above method to make him start this.
- I have another theory after thinking about it as to why he didn't do the Wail/Curse move when we the BLM died to that DoT that one time. It's possible he will only do that if the BLM is killed before either the 2nd or the 3rd Benediction. My current theory is that at the very least if the BLM is dead after the 3rd Benediction the boss is still locked into doing Anger of Gu'Dha and won't do Wail anymore but I'm not sure if he will do Wail if the BLM is killed between Benediction 2-3. It could also be a bug cause he died from a DoT (unlikely).
We attempted the method of killing the Elementalist early and dealing with Wail/Torment but it just didn't seem worth it. So to sum up. Silence the casters. The boss will clear their Silence occasionally so watch for that. Dispel at minimum the Defiler if he has spikes (Shock spikes for us). Weaken the Elementalist when he spawns so you can burn the Boss when he casts CureVI on it (or IV I don't remember) until Benediction #2. At this point use as many different types of damage as you have to burn down the 2 new adds (The adds are all weak defensively if hit them with what they're vulnerable to) and then do the same thing to break the shield on the boss and get him to Benediction a 3rd time. Now he will only use Anger of Gu'Dha (knockback/gravity) so move to the front with your back to the wall.
I'm going to try and test more about killing off the Elementalist after Benediction 2 and Benediction 3 to see if there's a point when it's fine to kill him. He's not that dangerous to leave alive until the boss is dead though. I'm also not entirely sure if his shield can be broken with different damage types during the entire fight, or only between Benediction 2 and 3 in the phase with RDM and DRK adds.

Did V1D with RDM + GEO + WHM + Trusts. Your observation seems correct.
After Benediction #2 the boss indeed seemed to stop curing the BLM. At that point I switched between Crocea (default) / Tauret / Maxentius. From the white damage and enspell damage, it is easy to tell whether Slash or Magical works, and then Savage blade or Seraph blade accordingly.
In some cases none of my weapons worked (including Empyreal Arrow from Ullr). Maybe it's finally the time to make a Karambit ...

The shield sometimes drops after the final benediction when he's using a TP move, but not always. I just look for the visual effect to go away, at least on D. My group is now very confident that we've got the mechanics down, so we'll start on VD tomorrow and see if it's any different.

I did a quick normal just to get seals
Killing the elementalist is terrible, Petro spam.
Killing the elementalist just a little, so the main boss cures was the only time he was vulnerable during cures like mentioned above addle ii or pinning nocturne helps a lot with this.
I don't understand the damage type mechanic mentioned above.
Or maybe that wasn't present in this difficulty
I went on rdm and switched to a lot of different dmg types for the boss but overall saw no changes

Pull boss to start, Make pld invincible > kill warrior > kill paladin > make boss benediction > Silence blm > everyone but tank run 30' away, tank solos elementalist (battuta/fealty to prevent potent en-poison).
Once dead, DD run back in, whm run to 20' and cursna/viruna tank > Divine caress + accession (or not if you have yagrush) stona, everyone WS during the boss's tp move readying. Ranged dps like cor can just sit out, assuming they don't have hate.
Curse move on elementalist death is a hate reset so note that any DD on the boss pre benediction will probably have hate and have to run back to tank.
If using a rune fencer to tank you can just have the rune solo DD boss after adds to force benediction from boss that way 1-2 JAs will get hate back on reset before first petrify and no DDs have to run back in.
Same as it's always been.

Did this melee style yesterday on VD: PLD BRD WHM CORx3.
Death Penalty speeds this up, although I guess Fomalhaut would be enough. GEO feels like a waste.
WHM/SCH: Silence the BLM. Voidstorm for CORs if they use Hachirin No-Obi.
This fight has been done without a tank and a heavy healer, but we ensured safety over speed. A veteran RDM/WHM can handle this.
PLD/BLU: Mostly physical damage with little magic, unless the BLM is left unsilenced.
You may also get dispelled a lot, so a PLD handles this better than a RUN, although it is doable.
BRD/WHM: Helps with Stonas/Heals/Dispel (for Shock Spikes on Defiler). Most of the damage is from Leaden.
So, although Minuets may help against the RDM+DRK, we opted for HM March + Minnes to lower damage.
COR/NIN: Keep up shadows. Run out of range if HP is low. Can range attack for Leaden, but it is slower.
Rolls: Wizards/Samurai/Fighters/Tacticians/Misers/Dancers
The sixth roll can be anything. Could swap Dancer for Chaos to boost other WS outside Leaden. While fighting the Boss (unless shield is down) or RDM+DRK, time Leadens for TP moves and spells. Very little damage outside of those windows.
The RDM+DRK adds rotate a weakness for damage types. To make this easier, you could have one COR do Leaden, another do Evisceration, and the other do Savage Blade. When one of them hits for decent damage, the other two switch to it. The Defiler dispels a LOT, so be ready to get any lost rolls back up after it dies.
The fight is pretty simple.
1) Pull to the corner. Get TP on the WAR (Berserker) to unload on the PLD (Devout). Didn't notice any issues with counters on WAR.
2) Take the boss down to 50% for Benediction. It has no shield so just fire away whenever. BLM spawns.
3) 1 COR hits the BLM with a Leaden and takes it down to low HP. WHM keeps it silenced.
The boss will Cure VI the BLM, so time Leadens during the casts. Take the boss to 50% for Benediction.
Note: Killing BLM at this time is dangerous. If it happens, be ready with Cursna/Viruna/Heals.
4) Kill the Disruptor ASAP. Try different damage types as mentioned above.
It spams Dispelga, so rebuff afterward. Dispel and kill Defiler.
5) Noticed no difference killing BLM at this point, or after the Boss. Less to think about if you get rid of it now.
If it becomes unsilenced, it may spam Meteor. Take the Boss to 50% for the third and last Benediction.
6) CORs get in front as the Boss begins doing Knockback with Wrath of Gu'Dha. It favours this move, which has a long ready time, so it is possible to fire two Leadens per move. Nothing else to think about, other than timing Leadens. Pop your Seals and celebrate the win.
This is the longer, but safer method for some groups. Enjoy your points.

Been trying to do difficult solo with trusts on ninja just because, but the stupid turtle just wont die near the end lol. As noted above, seems that the shield just simply won't go away after a certain point. I just timed out because the big guy wouldn't ever take more than single digit damage eventually. No problem handling all the adds and burning them down etc, but at some point it seems the shield is permanently on.

I remember doing D on RUN/SAM years ago using the strategy on bgwiki (kill first two adds, silence/melee BLM to 25%, kill main when he cures.) Today I used that strategy on Normal for the monthly quests on MNK/DRG in a few minutes, so it surely still works.

Yeah it wasn't until I swapped to Difficult with the Disruptor and Defiler coming out that this became an issue. Normal worked just fine.

Just had phase skip happen which I assume was more of a bug and would be difficult to reproduce. In the middle of a VD I had said I'd like to see if we killed the Elementalist after the second Benediction if it would matter at that point. So we're attacking the boss when he heals and all that. At around 50% the COR moves to the Elementalist assuming Benediction will happen soon. The Boss gets down to about 35% or so and the PLD stuns him. Either right before he was stunned, during, or right after the stun wears the Elementalist is killed. It's difficult to know the series of events as none of us were really paying attention to the specifics. Within maybe 2 seconds the Boss uses Benediction but the RDM and DRK adds DO NOT spawn. His next TP move is Anger of Gu'Dha which he only starts doing after the 3rd Benediction. So we skipped the phase between Bene 2 and 3. I doubt it's easily replicated, but if it was it would definitely speed up that strat.

I have been in a few JP groups and they insist on killing the Elementalist which pretty much requires WHM with Yagrush to use Cursna and be out of the range of the AoE petrify move. Need Divine Caress Stona too so you won't be petrified again. It can be VERY tricky for the WHM and dangerous for the PT since the WHM has to run fast to remove Cursna before the next TP move, Curaga everyone, run out so not petrified, then run back in again to remove it.
Based on the previous posts, I wonder if leaving the Elementalist alive and waiting for Cure is still a good strategy?

Once the Elementalist pops, you can bind the NM and run away with the BLM. Kill it out of range and have the person with hate step into Curse/Virus range of the NM. Then the WHM can heal that person without any risk of dying or being petrified, as the NM will only use that move once and only on that one target while being unable to hit everyone with petrify right after.
Then once the DD engage and get hit by their first petrify, the WHM can accession / Divine Seal + Divine Caress Stona.
This allows for sub 5 minute clears while having 2 leeches doing nothing.

We silenced the BLM immediately when it popped, then have someone whittle it down a little with white damage. All DD run >30 away then tank finishes off BLM. Then kill boss as normal.

Key Notes: Bozzetto High Vicar:
Immediately begins the battle with Imperfect Shell Defense which will grant the Bozzetto High Vicar an aura.
Will use the following TP moves:
Imperfect Shell Defense: Status Enhancement Grants a damage taken reduction -98%, attack increase, and removes status ailments and gains shell aura.
Disappears during each TP move or spell cast and reappears after one is completed.
During this window, the Bozzetto High Vicar will take +200% damage.
Sorrow of Gu'Dha: 30' AoE Magical Damage draw-in, damage, curse (-75% HP/MP), and plague (-50 TP/-500 MP /tic)
Used once after the defeat of the Bozzetto Elementalist.
Players may run out of range of this ability and leave one player with hate in range to trigger it.
The curse affect will always land on players in range. Not even Asylum prevents this.
Torment of Gu'Dha: AoE Magical Damage Element: Earth damage, petrify, and hate reset.
This move is used exclusively after the use of Sorrow of Gu'Dha.
The petrify effect lasts for ~45 seconds and is only able to be resisted via abilities such as Asylum, Perfect Defense, and Divine Caress.
Evasion and Defense of the additional Bozzetto Quadav are considerably low.
Adds are immune to sleep and petrify.
All adds use their corresponding Two-Hour ability 1-hour abilities
The Bozzetto Berserker possesses counter with an enhanced activation rate.
After the appearance of the Bozzetto Elementalist the Bozzetto High Vicar will begin casting cure on them.
Players may use this as a method of defeating the Bozzetto High Vicar without having to deal with the AoE petrify spam from Torment of Gu'Dha if they so choose.
You will need to first weaken the Bozzetto Elementalist without defeating it in order to do this.
