Ahhh, So that's what this is about.

People want to not be held responsible and have someone else pay for everything. Heaven forbid a person be held accountable!

Obamacare does not make easier to access healthcare and it sure as hell don't make it more affordable! Why should I live a healthy life and have to pay for someone who decided to OD, abort a child, I could go on forever but ima stop right there.
Why the hell did I pay for your education?
All you gotta do now is call me racist and we can wrap this up.
You've either had a private or public education, or some combination of both.
How is providing healthcare for all fundamentally any different from providing education for all?
Why should I pay for educating someone, when they are going to decide to OD and die before joining the workforce?
Why should I pay for educating someone, when they are going to drop out of high school/not complete their education?
Why should I pay for educating someone, who consistently earns marginal grades?

It may be because the society at large benefits greatly from such a policy in the long term, even though there may be little to no short-term benefits. The concept is often described as enlightened self-intrest.

Did you go to public or private school?
Private up to college; self-financed at an out-of-state state school for college. That's not to say that any of the schools involved did not receive any grants or funding from county, state, or federal levels.

This explains why I get the "I'm entitled feeling from you". The way I look at paying for Public schooling is, I went to school for 13 years so I am paying it back. If you look at it like your paying for everyone to go to school, your in the wrong mindset.

Relating education to the ACA is like relating auto ins. to it.

The only issue to your argument is the quality of education being given to our youth.

When the quality of education has been in decline for the past 5 years, one must wonder what the methods were in place beforehand and the methods that replaced it, take out the bad methods and revert back to the previous set.

You know, make schools responsible for their students instead of throwing money at teachers unions, instead of the teachers.

Then maybe you can preach "enlightened self-interest."

or they could stop making it damn near illegal to discipline kids i say bring back the paddle!

How exactly is the quality of education the issue with the argument?
Isn't the quality of education primarily dictated by state decisions? Hell, aren't schools in Texas independent from municipalities?
What has caused a decline in the past 5 years?

I can see it now. (White principal paddles black kid, Black principle paddles white kid.) Would probly be better if parents taught there kids some respect, and teachers teach the subject they are schooled in.

Look at what you just wrote:

Apply that to your earlier statement regarding healthcare.

How can anyone allow children to watch mindless crap like that and expect anything more from them.

First episode: May 1, 1999; so the timescale is a bit off.

Probably because they are busy watching other mindless crap. Rather than debating on forums, of course.

Please don't infer that I am saying that you should be mindless nubs in the ground.

Of course it is better to have poor education than no education. But you know what's even better than poor education? Good education. What's keeping us from having good education? This administration in their lack of responsibility in providing said education to the public.

Bahamut.Milamber said: »

Because the quality of education is important to society. You are inferring that all education is the same, and why should you pay for education if people are just going to die/drop out/not even try when 2 of those 3 issues are quality issues. Well, the third can be considered a quality issue if the cause of death is forced, not accidental.

Bahamut.Milamber said: »

Texas has to abide by federal standards. And no, they are not independent, at least not totally. There are revenue difference between schools, but the state usually picks up the slack if needed. There are also state standards that need to be followed also.

Bahamut.Milamber said: »

Lack of responsibility (both on the school and parents, but we can't control the parent's responsibility, only the school) and lack of proper funding. When you have money going to teacher's unions instead of teacher's salaries, that is a gross misappropriation of funds. When you have money going to football stadiums (yes, I will admit that Texas is the worst offender in this) instead of supplies and tools to teach students, that is a gross misappropriation of funds. It is bad on both sides of the aisle, the way money is being transferred to things that does not help with the education of our youth.

Plus, it doesn't help if they increase the size of the classroom instead of hiring more teachers to work more on the children and less on the curriculum.

Relevant at hand:

The Federal Government had no Constitutionally mandated function of creating regulation for schools, however it was deemed as a need for not only society but to support a healthy nation to intervene in education.

We could go on for days arguing about how schools waste funds, from unions, to still using books instead of promoting open information, to silly lawsuits, and zero tolerance policies ruining good people (children), to getting into the side debate about school violence/bullying/shootings, etc etc etc.

But the point is, not many question the Government's role in the education system (and anyone can logically agree that it's a national issue, and as a nation we should have a minimum standard, to compete on the global scale), yet people can't see the logical correlation to the need for other functions: like healthcare and how it's a severe drain on society to leave it unchecked.

If you go to a hospital, you are paying for someone else's healthcare.
If you visit a doctor, you are paying for someone else's healthcare.
If you have insurance, you are paying for someone else's healthcare.

You are already paying for other people's healthcare costs in some form or another. Ensuring that a greater portion of the population is able to manage their own healthcare costs lessens these expenses.

Great idea.

Now lets figure out how to do that instead of forcing people to support an industry that isn't directly involved in healthcare outside of how much they are willing to pay for something.

You know, make healthcare affordable instead of forcing people to buy a product they don't need.
