while you guys where out getting educated, researching, observing and enriching yourselves in other cultures. I was running a 500 acre dairy farm from the age of 18, the past decade and a half has been nothing but price's for everything needed to run it going up and the product I ship stay the absolute same. (Because the government regulates the milk price) Since I was literally forced into bankruptcy from new laws being passed on Mega-Farms 100x my size, but took effect on me as well I've been a bit weary of the government. Your logical conclusions seem to support bigger government which I oppose and find very unamerican.

So you have no education, that explains a lot.

Ive also handled more money than you will in your entire life....

poorly, apparently.

maybe with some education you would actually know more about the Constitution, law, and how to run a business.

what bait? bait would imply that we're fishing, we're not.

well at least I'm not, I'm being sincere, maybe a bit crass, but sincere.

Would be nice to live in your guys world where everything is so black and white, easily explained and taken care of so well.
it's quite the opposite really, we understand that the world is very analog, and that it can't simply be a yes or no, and that there's many possibilities, yet most of us are either educated or spent a lot of time researching, observing and enriching ourselves in other cultures to come to conclusions, yes it makes some of us jaded, and we expect others to come to the same logical conclusions, and forget that others may need a bit of a push.

So, personally I will apologize for being a bit jaded.

while you guys where out getting educated, researching, observing and enriching yourselves in other cultures. My logical deductions are supported by logic and have nothing to do with being American or Anti-American.

However if you want to get into it: stop blaming the government on your failure of running a business, it's not their fault you failed to adapt. It's part of running a business.

Nothing I've said supports larger government, in fact I suggested reducing the government's size numerous times, however my priorities differ greatly from yours. I have no problem with the government getting involved in healthcare, or breaking up monopolies. I have a problem with the government butting into people's sex lives, or wiretapping people illegally, or infringing on people's gun rights, or rights to free speech.

There's numerous aspects of running a business but the number one factor in failure is bad management, and failing to adapt to laws is bad management.

I could have survived but I choose not to go 5 million in the hole, and got a job driving heavy equipment.

As for bad management take a look around for small dairy farmers, there are none left. 10yrs ago in my area (about 100 miles in any direction) their where a good 50 of us, now you will be lucky to find 3.

You should use you logic to look at what the government has done and is doing to small farmers and business's.

Like I said: if a business fails due to a change in law then it was poorly managed.

You're being run out by competition, really nothing more.

Edit: the government gives all sorts of subsidies and breaks to small governments, something else you'd know if you had an education.

There's a reason that large farms can make it, mostly because they have management that handles managing.

Not necessarily, regulation frequently puts businesses in a very difficult position. It's not that they couldn't weather those changes, it's what it would cost them to do so. I could have continued my business, but my interest in it depended on the low hanging fruit provided by the housing booms to finance the less profitable but more enjoyable aspects of it. If I couldn't afford to race my own cars, there was no real advantage to continuing to build other people's.

Yeah but yours wasn't a direct result of government action (well arguable, but let's not go there with the repeal of the Glass-Steagall), but yes one has to be fluid in most small businesses, shift with the market, etc.

A series of things can easily crush a business, but laws are written well in advance of when they go in effect, if one isn't paying attention to it and making the necessary changes then it's poor management, however that is overhead that one needs to be prepared for, something that should be taught to a person running a business.

Regulations weren't really a factor in my situation, it was just an example of how legislation or outside factors can kill a business without actually killing it.

The church bit is fairly easy actually.

1, Get ordained. Search Universal Life Church
2, Regester your house as a church.
3, File the paperwork to be a church.
4, Donate most of your income to the church.
5, Pass Go, collect $200, skip right over the income tax square.

Outside factors can definitely kill a business, but it is up to the management/owner to predict and react to those, in your case: you made a bet, and it could have very well have easily paid off and you could be sitting on fat money if the economy/market/housing didn't tank, and I feel for you, but you don't sit here and try to blame the gov'ment or those greedy bankers (that caused the mess) you accepted it and have moved on, it's called being an adult, congratulations: you passed that test.

Almost as easy as registering a bunch of tea party non-profit organizations, right up until you cry foul for the IRS investigating a large group of requests coming up from one type of group all at once, then people crying foul saying it's a dirty political move when it's just a fraud prevention measure by all provable accounts.

but hey.
