We never actually unlocked it. It turns out you have to show up a little earlier than a few hours before the end of the week.
#winning.

Hardest items? The rares in Cracking Shells (S) - the Bastok equivalent to Fiat Lux. In all my years on Lakshmi, we never once unlocked that BCNM that I recall.

As far as difficulty/rarity , I'd have to go with this by far. Mythics/Empyreans aren't difficult, it's just tedious/expensive. You cannot buy this item, or the victories needed to obtain it, and I don't even think you can get one anymore, correct me if I'm wrong.
That was the ballista Royale in 2005. While I was among the few to play in it, sadly we did not win the crowns. The members of Fenrir who played no longer are around. idk about the others. Same with Sylph.

Goldsmithing (64)
Yield: Ram Horn x 1
HQ 1: Ram Horn x 1
HQ 2: Painite x 1
Lightning Crystal
1 x Lilith's Rod
That's the desynth results haha derp, my bad. I took a long nap shortly after this, was way too tired.
I've done this quest at some point I think, but I can't recall the details.

Earth Crystal is clearly the most difficult item to get. Hands down.

Not sure how it's any more difficult than any of the other 99 afterglow relics

The most difficult item to obtain is whatever item you are trying to get at the time. Always seems to drop the item that you do not want every time.

That's quite possibly the stupidest comment of this thread thus far, pretty much up there with the optical hat comment.
The items you said being laughable aside, He did say the hardest item, not 'the hardest item to get that is still useful, besides that; you haven't played recently have you? Those items i mentioned can be upgraded; and augmented with 3 paths; however because only 4 people have the 4 torques combined it isn't clear how useful they -might- be.
Quote: you think that number of people working religiously is reasonable? Then some having realistic odds of not getting what they wanted after all the effort. 1 person can give a single city 2 areas doing 3 campaign battles a day for a week. 21 battles total ~20 minutes a battle; not THAT much effort. My source: I gave windurst Citadel [S] and Merip Mounts last week.
Quote: The fact that 11 people truly dedicated themselves to opening it seriosuly surprises me, but you really aren't gonna get a linkshell effort going for any more than a day, which is far from what is necessary. Comeatmebro did a good job explaining why a linkshell effort isn't necessary; Also if enough people from the linkshell want it i would imagine the linkshell would put effort into getting it for them.

I'd selfishly submit Chocobo Beret since I've got one, but there's well over 100 out there... so it's not uncommon, you just haven't been able to get one since 2010.

Outside of Nocturnus and Nightfall..
Poison Tasters Cape.
Unless you are lucky enough to get pellets from your mog garden, you probably will never lay your hand on this item.
The pellets only drop off 4 monsters.. not type of monsters, 4 monsters total in the entire game. Each one has significantly less than a 1% drop rate and they are on a 15 minute respawn timer.
I have only seen 1 person on Asura with this cape. (which is refresh+1 when poisoned)
After all that work, the drop rate on the cape is just average, something like 20%

While I agree, it is terrible, I don't think it's quite that bad. Let's play with some numbers. There isn't enough of a sample to say for certain but DB lists the cape as a 15.8% drop rate, though with such a tiny sample size (3/19), your error ratio is 22.47 so it is within the statistical realm of possibility that the drop rate could be as high as ~38% but it's rather unlikely that it'd be quite that high but on the other end it could also be 1% given the error ratio is higher than the rate measured. I think 20% is a pretty good estimation here.
The pellets:
Meteor Quadav 17 spawns 3.3% chance with 6/180
Chatoyant Quadav 12 spawns 2.3% with 2/88
3.3% but with a 7.27% margin of error. So it could be 1% but could also be up to about ~10%.
2.3% but with a 10.42% margin of error. Again, could be 1% but could also be up to about ~13%.
Given they are probably the same rate, I'd estimate a drop rate of 3-5%. %5 is a pretty common drop rate.
Most of the spawns are clustered around the same groups so I don't think farming would be quite so bad but yeah it would definitely suck.
I got the spawn numbers from BG which normally is taken from the dats. I could be wrong here though as I've not confirmed it myself.

I would say you are pretty close. I farmed the pops with a couple friends a long while back. Took several hours, but we all got a pop. We ended up calling it a night without actually popping the NM. We never actually did pop it, lol. I still have my pellets DBed on a mule.
As for the hardest item, it is hard to say. I can't even think of a specific one. Trying to think of something you only get one chance at, or that is very random, I am wondering how rare the following two would be:
1. The Ace Cardian cards (or other possible mission drops): Unless I am mistaken, the only way you can get these is during the final Windurst Mission. Once you clear it, you cannot do it again unless you are doing it with someone who hasn't yet. Moreover (and I may be wrong- it has been years since I have done this fight), the drop rates seemed pretty bad. I did the fight several times with friends years ago and remember seeing 0 drop.
I guess the rarity might not be so bad if someone was dedicated in getting the set. I suppose one could bring a THF in and just die or warp after killing 3/4 of them to redo it. But, I wonder if there are any one-time events with a super rare drop.
2. Augmented Quest rewards: I forget the exact details now, but I believe it is in Abyssea-Attowha (spelling). There is a quest which rewarded you with a DEX ring after the first completion. It also came with random augments (though there was a reported maximum value to the augments I think). If I recall it was actually the best DEX ring at the time if you could obtain it with that one chance (which makes it even more uncommon).
Some of the ANNM augmented rewards might be super hard to get also. I only did the fights a couple of times. Again, I suppose if one of the rewards was worth getting, people would spam it and we would see more. This still seems very tedious and luck based though.
I could very well be remembering these things incorrectly, lol. But I like the topic and am interested in what might actually be the toughest thing to get.

Funny you should mention the cards, I have all 4 royal flushes that I keep in my bazaar amongst me and my alts. It took me over 5 years to gather them all and pretty much never remove them from my bazaar.

Lol, that is so awesome. Now I want to collect them all for some reason. I need to get a mule on that mission and keep failing it until I get them all. Then find out where the Kings, Queens, and Jacks come from. I think all the higher-tier ones are from missions. I think you can farm up to 10 in the ruins.
Awesome pic though, thank you.

A diamond is the hardest item to obtain. Dunno why that took 3 pages.
We were having a discussion in LS not long ago about what is the single, hardest item to get in game. Level is not important. Relics, Mythics and Empy stuff doesn't really count...
Some said it was still a Ridil and other say it is Bahamut's Mask. Another said Black Belt cause no one wants to do the fights anymore...
So what do you guys think? What is the single most difficult item in game to get regardless of level?
