That is the biggest problem kids (20 somethings) don't have any reference to politics outside of *** pandering to young voters. Vote or die. Rock the vote etc.

I never saw Mad Men.

Outside of Christina Hendricks *** no reason to watch it. All style no substance.

Now a show about CC involving Snooki I could watch that. They could hit up the Jersey Shore one more time for old time sake.

Snooki still exists? I hoped we had moved past that.

She is the American dream. Get rich and famous no talent. Happily Ever after.

Kinda sad that more people know who she is than Chris Christie.

It is because other people felt responsible for YOUR rights that you are able to be so cavalier about the rights of others now.
and others will still do this regardless of whether I vote or not.

I'm surprised that you are comfortable putting your life, and perhaps the lives of people close to you, in the hands of others instead of attempting to have at least some effect on it. That's aside from any moral responsibility, just looking at it practically. You cannot guarantee that other Americans will do the right thing.

If there were a candidate that connected with on a vast majority of issues, sure, why not? If I agree with you on one thing and completely disagree on another (let's say I like your immigration policy but hate your abortion policy), then can't help you there.

You might consider prioritizing your opinions on issues by most-to-least critical, and using that to decide which candidates you are willing to vote for. That's what the rest of us do. I doubt you will find too many people who agree with every candidate they vote for on every issue. Saying that you won't vote for a candidate unless they support your positions to a one is kind of silly. It's like saying that you're looking for a 6' stacked blonde, and you meet one who is almost everything you want, except she has brown eyes.

Sylph.Tigerwoods said: »
Voting for individual amendments or things that show up on the ballot on their own I have no issue with. Voting for a candidate is deciding on a lot of things with a single vote though. I like the stance of being to vote for ***individually.

Those elections mean more (to me) than electing officials ever could

Referendum votes are really great for stuff like marijuana legalization or gambling laws. Where they fall down is on civil rights- the majority should never, ever, vote on the rights of a minority group. Things like abortion, gay marriage, affirmative action, these should never be put to referendum.

Anyway, you need to wake up. Everyone who is intelligent enough to understand political issues and form an opinion has the responsibility to vote. Even worse in your particular situation, many people died so that us African-Americans can vote, and you're squandering their sacrifice by being so apathetic and lazy.

I live in NJ and while I'm really not into politics, I do have a little story about Chris Christie.

I work at an animal hospital in a wealthy area and I was talking to one of the more well-to-do clients about her cat. She explained how he used to be an outside cat for years but then during a fundraiser she was having for Christie at her home, he fell in love with the cat and told her "You absolutely have to bring this cat inside" She didn't really seem like a crazy cat lady and I'm a sucker for people who love animals so I thought that was pretty cool of C.C. Then she further went on to explain how her cat also happened to be the reincarnation of her dead husband.

If we're looking at it from that perspective, again, we already covered this. If there's something on the ballot I feel THAT strongly for, I'll go do something. A bunch of issues that I have no feelings towards doesn't qualify for it though.

They are all equally as little critical to me. Again, I have opinions but don't really have feelings that go with them.

aka "This makes sense to me, sounds logical, but do I care if it passes or gets shot down? not at all"

They died so that I could have the freedom to choose whether or not I want to vote; and those who want to vote now can/do vote.
That'd be the same as saying I disgrace Rosa Parks by not sitting at the front of the bus. She did that so everyone could have their choice seat, whether it be the front or the back.

Besides, those social issues that you seem to care so much about. The person you convince to vote may be the person who votes for the oppressor.

So if politics fails, he can get his own syndicated program, Chris Christie: The fat cat whisperer.

Oh dear.

I would watch that show. What about Obama and CC as the original odd couple.

If you don't like any of the candidates, it takes all of 15seconds to get to a poll site, write in Goku and keep it moving. If enough people voiced their frustration through the polls instead of armchair bitching, we might see better candidates.

Do you really believe that anyone outside of the 2-party system will be elected ever?
.....
Like the two independents in congress? Or the independent governor of RI? Or the socialist on the Seattle city council? Or, for that mater, a former NYC mayor?

Up to the congressional level, local sentiment has a large impact. Someone who is popular in the community as a business owner or public servant has a reasonable chance of getting elected regardless of political affiliation.

On the larger scale of PoTUS, I don't see an independent who isn't either an extremely popular breakaway from a major party or Jesus himself having any real traction.

I am very hopeful that we will see more politicians stepping away from their parties and expressing themselves as individuals, regardless of their actual views. I'd be delighted to see a Democrat make a stand on something like abortion, not because I agree with them (far from it) but because it would stray from convention and give voters a reason to question voting for a candidate who doesn't share their views even though they subscribe to their party.

That airport sucks.
The whole state sucks. (Full disclosure: I have family there.)

Even residents of NJ refer to it as "the armpit of the nation" but they aren't the only ones.
