That's a wrap for Christie's presidential aspirations.

Looks like a "he said, she said" accusation to me.

But of course, an ex-employee who got fired recently due to a scandal is going to act against his employer? Who knew...

What that individual says is irrelevant. The whole bridge thing is over, the only question left is did Christie misuse Sandy relief funds, which has been the only real issue the whole time. I doubt we ever find a real answer.

I think we have already found a real answer, in interviews with the mayor of Hoboken. Unless you are thinking that she's not telling the truth, which is possible, I guess?

The thing is, either the bridge thing or the Sandy funds thing is enough to keep Christie from the nomination in 2016. He already had a tough road ahead of him despite being the corporate guy- flyover country is not going to vote for Christie over Tea Party candidates like Cruz or Paul. Not only were they against the Sandy aid, but both of those guys have spoken out against crony capitalism and the establish GOP countless times. They will eat Christie for breakfast in a primary challenge.

Another strong runner for having a Republican in the White House.

Another political assassination by the mainstream media before he can start creating traction.

Another day, another body bag.

C'mon, Christie did this to himself. Political retribution in a way that directly harms your constituency? That's just dumb.

Also, Democrats shouldn't be celebrating this, and I think I'm not the only one of us who feels this way. Be careful what you wish for- does any progressive really look forward to a general election of Ted Cruz versus Hillary Clinton? The insanity factor from the right, even though Cruz is an unelectable candidate that will lose by a landslide, is just not desirable for the state of this country.

I dont take anything a New Jersey politician says at face value, they are all corrupt, republican or democrat, its New Jersey, ie, Little Italy. For news on Italian corruption, see Amanda Knox. And even if that mayor is telling the 100% truth, she has no evidence to prove it.

Having New Jersey attached to his name hurts Christie more than the idiots in the Tea Party whom he openly bashes on a daily basis. He isn't afraid of them because they aren't a threat to him, opposing the Tea Party is a recipe for success for any politician. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are do nothing Senators that have had zero success in D.C, they aren't real candidates.

I disagree about Cruz. He and Paul are both do-nothings* but Cruz has charisma, of a sort, and he's very smart. He is going to be a real candidate. The Republican governors that posters brought up earlier in this thread are, outside of Christie, not well-known, not exciting, and not electable. Most of the GOP field will be from Congress in 2016- Cruz, Paul, Ryan, and Rubio. Jeb Bush will have a massive establishment backing but, like Christie, he isn't going to win primary elections in the Bible Belt, and he certainly can't win in a general election.

*In today's political climate, being a Congressional Republican and a do-nothing is actually lauded in some circles :O

uh, wasn't Ted Cruz born in Canada? wouldn't that make him ineligible for president, even though he apparently was granted citizenship without naturalization.

His mom is a US citizen, I think. You just have to petition the US embassy when your child is born abroad and register them.

Not only was Ted Cruz born in Canada, he is a birther :D

I still think that he'll run. If any of his opponents file suit to block him on grounds that it's unconstitutional, it will be in the primaries and not in the general (if he makes it there), LOL.

He is by definition a US citizen.

Yeah, no. You have to formally register your children when they are born abroad. You don't automatically get citizenship for them. It was probably easier when Cruz was born but you still have to submit papers to the state department.

If he never formally renounced Canadian citizenship which you receive upon birth then he needs to go through that formal process too. It usually involves submitting paperwork and standing in front of an ambassador.

McCain, who was born on a US military base abroad, still went through a legal analysis to prove he was a 'natural born citizen.'

Also, I see the elder Cruz as having been naturalized in 2005. I don't see any other date.

not necessarily, and that also doesn't necessarily grant "natural born" status either.

Didn't say "natural born" did I?

Just said US Citizen.

edit: I see what you mean though, you need to be a natural born citizen to be President.

I believe the consensus is that he's ineligible, or at least that's what I've heard said by many political commentators.

Why are we talking about this. No seriously, why. Cruz is an American, from Texas, a state that the rest of America is quite finished with. The two things America is not going to vote for are 1. Another Bush and/or 2. Another Texan.

If it comes to this they will just pass another resolution saying he can run, its what they did with McCain, and it was sponsored by Obama and Clinton.

The legal analysis I read is inconclusive, because 'natural born citizen' has never been decided by a court if it is based parentage (jus sanguinis), birthplace (jus soli), or both.

Even if he doesn't run for President this is a question that needs to be answered. A lot of children are born abroad to US parents.
