I guess we should talk about this:

http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/09/politics/chris-christie-bridge-primer/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Aside from the obvious, which is that this kind of political payback is disgusting and wrong, I think that this scandal damages Chris Christie's 2016 chances. Over the next few days and weeks we should get a clearer picture of his actual involvement, so maybe I'm off-base and he'll escape unscathed.

Anyone else got thoughts on this whole debacle?

i'm sure if you obsessed long enough you could find any number of deaths from congested traffic because of every politician's need to parade around for a few months when a election comes along, or because they decided today is some kind of a special holiday, or just about any decision they make

Not saying this isn't a shitty thing but it just doesn't seem much different than politics and the scumbags related as usual

None of it really adds up to me. Why two months before an election that he was winning handily would his campaign/office be concerned with not getting the endorsement of one Democratic mayor when they already had several and why would they go to such an extreme measure to retaliate. It doesn't really make sense.

But the other side of it, it makes no sense to me that his highest of aides would be involved in something so stupid and illegal that would risk everything over something so small; and have Governor Christie not know about it. He would have to know since they were risking his ***.

All that being said, I cannot imagine how excited the media must be to have the opportunity to do their jobs for once and actually ask questions since they've been asleep the last five years.

Its a pretty bad scandal for that area but I don't think it will do a lot to his 2016 chances. Intentionally causing a traffic jam for hours and hours is not funny, it costs time and money and pretty much ruins a person's day. Mayors get elected on promises to fix traffic problems and ousted for failing to do so.

Pretty hard to believe that someone would conspire to do this. But, it is New Jersey. I doubt Christie gets let off with an apology and a firing, especially if someone died. That takes it to a whole new level.

My favorite part was when Christie faked his outrage and claims that this was the first time he's heard of it over something reporters have been asking him for a month.

my biggest problem with this whole thing is... other than the media's typical ***, has anyone actually considered this guy as a viable candidate for 2016? i mean, i get it. he won a typically blue leaning state, granted it was an insanely low voter turnout, and he rode in a helicopter with obama after hurricane sandy. however, this guy has consistently appeared rude, ignorant, and unkempt. who the hell could possibly want this person as their president?

I don't think Christie knew about this personally, it makes no sense considering his RNC/Presidential aspirations. The Democratic mayor claims he didn't even ask for an endorsement so that means you wage political retribution for the lulz?

Gonna chalk it up to scumbags in his inner circle. The investigation will probe further and for Christie's sake he better be clean as a whistle. After Jon Corzine, New Jersey deserves better than another scumbag governor.

A viable candidate is a bit of an oxymoron, but as far as competition, he's one of the few Republican names right now that has clout on both sides of the aisle. He's got a reputation of not taking crap from anyone and speaking his mind regardless of the backlash. His policies are fairly moderate, even liberal on the social front.

I'd say he's got a shot at making some kind of stab at the nomination at least, though I don't see him being radical enough to get the support of the far right or moderate enough to appeal to leftist and independent voters.

I don't see this scandal having a major impact on his chances in 2016, as they weren't that great to start with, and it's a mostly media-tastic scandal, anyway.

He definitely has been handled with velvet gloves, but you can't blame the press for needing a sweetheart in the GoP. With them throwing softballs at piles of politicians over the years only to have seriously damning things turn up over and over (hope and change Obama fluff pieces come to mind most recently), a Cinderella story is their standard operation.

"We were wrong about that guy, but THIS guy, he's the real deal"

I'd be more suspicious of a politician that was really as clean as they've made some out to be.

What does that say about me and my lack of one?

You make good choices. I tend to make bad ones.
