I didn't like showing my body to ANYONE in school. I remember us lining up as LEANING into the urinals in like second grade because we weren't trying to let other people see our ***.
Because a diverse and tolerant world is a terrifying thought to the people that push these kinds of initiatives.
I didn't realise that 51+% of the population grew up in nudist colonies, but not wanting the opposite sex to see my *** (unless I want them to see it, or we're intimate) is "normal" to me. I had no idea that having modesty in the presence of the opposite sex was being intolerant. If that's the case I'll be happy to start ripping clothes off women everywhere while yelling at how close-minded and intolerant they are.
I don't really give a ***what sex you think you are or wish you were. I care what parts you do have now. I'm leaving the entirety of the "mental" aspect out of this. Physically you have an innie and I have an outie. Society (normal society, not this BARBARIC AND INTOLERANT MASS OF IGNORANT PLEBS) has always had it be decent that you don't show the male ends to the females and vice versa. Just like women feel this pressure to present a certain image to men, men feel the same in reverse.
I would rather have a gay man see my bits and pieces than anything that was born female. To me it's not about "does this being want to *** me", it's "does my mind naturally assume this is a mate for me?". My nature is that the opposite sex judges me as a suitable mate, and my natural self-consciousness (and thinking all people will magically become ambivalent to their self-image) is ignorant. Inconveniencing the majority to suit the "wants" (not needs) of the grossly vast minority is equally stupid. One in 100 people feel silly going into the bathroom they're supposed to so let's infringe on the rights of the 99.
Got it. That was a bit of a late night angry rant directed more at these traditional values organizations so I can see how harsh it sounds, but I stick to the underlying point that acknowledgement of the complexity of an issue such as transgender makes people uncomfortable, which in turn can lead to avoidance or outright denial. I understand we're all the product of hard-to-shake social mores, but the world those rules arose from was never as clearly defined as we would like to think (or what those organization would like us to think). Boys like girls, boys like boys, girls like girls, girls identify as boys, whatever. These phenomena aren't new, but their recognition and eventual reconciliations are.
It's impossible to divorce the mental aspect from something like this (evidenced by your entire argument being psychological), because it is at the crux of the conversation. If you don't want to expose your genitals to someone of the opposite biological sex, then simply don't. They likely have as much interest in seeing your *** as you do of the guy next to you.
It is quite the conundrum. Without sounding like a Blur song. You have Boys who like Girls, Boys who like Boys, Boys who think they're Girls and like Boys, Boys who think they're Girls and like Girls, Girls who like Boys, Girls who like Girls, Girls who think they're Boys but like Boys, Girls who think they're Boys but like Girls.

Lots of stuff early on that need to be addressed. Transgender does not mean gay I saw way to much of this going on. Another thing is I know girls who were better QBs and linemen then our varsity QB and linemen were, and could take hits better. Yet they were never allowed to play with the boys and no female football leagues existed, at the time, for them to play in. They aren't transgender but they genetically are females built for athletics and sports and have the mesomorph muscle build. Simply lumping all females into one categories show just how biased you are and how little you believe in your own theories and evolution. We asked what gender do you identify the "mistakes as" and you said none, so which bathrooms do they use? you refuse to answer that. Considering that we have the ability to take our primal urges and say no that is actually a really bad idea I could get her pregnant or a disease I will wait or invent condoms show how evolved e are past that of a gorilla someone who is unable to resist these primal urges is lesser evolved. If you make a defense for this you are defending lesser evolved brain thought which we don't want to pass on. Aspergers is considered a mental retardation even though it has no genetic markers and is really just a social disorder that comes usually from having an advanced thought process. The fact that you won't admit that gender and sex are different shows how unevolved of a human you are. I look damn good in pink and in america if you can wear pink as a male still look masculine then you are super masculine but if you can't pull of pink you are feminine, your saying that's a genetic construct and not social? man you are in a serious closet of denial. You no also ignore all anthropological based science and facts, yet you pretend to be a hyper rationalist who ignores logic, so you clearly are not one. The mere fact that you keep shouting liberal agenda shows how ignorant you are as I am not a liberal and you are extremely off base.

When I first saw this, I said "who cares" turns out alot of people do if they're trying to argue against this/
What the hell is the issue? Let people be who they are, without feeling be littled, violated or judged just because YOU DONT AGREE WITH THEM.
Guess what! I don't agree with a ***ton of stuff, but thats my problem, and I keep it my problem.
If people have such an issue over this, then perhaps they have something wrong with them and they feel the need to abuse anyone they can to make them feel better.
Utter Nonsense.
OMG A TEENAGER/ADULT MIGHT USE A BATHROOM I USE, I'm sorry whats to stop a man walking into a womans bathroom and doing these "acts of whatever it is we're so scared will happen"... oh right nothing.
No offence, if this is what people want to Riot against and Not Cigarettes, gun violence and knife crime in schools, then Dear *** god I'm staying in Scotland.

You know it's because I'm secretly attracted to you and it's causing me conflict and frustration to come to terms with it.
I still think it's absurd to inconvenience 999/1000 to accommodate the 1/1000. I mean really that's all we're doing right? 1 person feels uncomfortable so we make at least half the rest of the population uncomfortable (I think that's a conservative estimate).
Is it something infringing on their rights/wellbeing? No? oh.... it's just that they don't have to be subject to possibly seeing someone else's whoohoo? We already confirmed that it's totally not a big deal if the TG sees MY junk right? So it's not a big deal if they stay right where they are and quit whining.
edit:

Not saying anything against the needing of prevention of knife crime in schools (I'm assuming that you mean just this in schools, but hey, not that many schools have to worry about knife crimes period, except in UK and Chicago), but riots against cigarettes? Gun violence? How is that going to solve these issues?
Besides, if you really want gun reform, the best way to do it is keep it out the hands of criminals, not citizens. Citizens aren't breaking the law owning a gun, but criminals already broken the law once, why should they be expected to follow the law again? Gun reform wants to keep guns out of everyone's hands, except for the privileged few (who happen to want gun reform in the first place). Best way for total control of the people!

The homosexual men that are posting in this thread as proponents of this law are very one dimensional in their approach. They are exclusively referring to young gay men who identify themselves as girls having the right to be themselves and dwell in such places as the girls bathroom and locker room. You obviously don't know that I'm the conservative homosexual of these forums. I'm the gay male version of Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
I do not like the wording of this law. I think it, as it stands, needs major revisions. However, I believe it is a step in the right direction. EDIT: The law has yet to specify if/how K-12 institutions will obtain formal diagnosis.
I've been reading the last few pages some people are confusing genotype sex vs phenotype vs gender identity. They are three different, but nonetheless, inter-related concepts.

The question then becomes why do we have seperate bathrooms in the first place? Is it the functionality of the setup, a privacy thing or something else?

If our gender weren't a bunch of cloaked out creep-o's I think unisex restrooms would be fine, they're just reliant on the prediction of a decent society as a whole, which is optimistic at best, in this poster's opinion....

Or just place stalls around urinals and ban the "trough" setting? I'm leaning with Leila on this. Not sure who is going to linger in a restroom for longer than what is needed, especially a public restroom. ICK!

In Scotland we have this thing, where we don't bother each other on their gener or preferences, unless it hs an actual impact on us. Hence I'll stay in Scotland where people mind their own damn business"!
The rioting, well OP states people picketted and stuff about this outside of a school, that's 1 step before rioting. My apologizes then.
Also, is there any vacancies in Scotland? I know of at least 60,933,500 people who would like to move there...

We had neutral gendered bathrooms on our college campus. The only negatives observed were high amounts of weed smoking and women hogging the sinks constantly to do their prettification thing.

We already confirmed that it's totally not a big deal if the TG sees MY junk right? So it's not a big deal if they stay right where they are and quit whining.
First off why are you so paranoid of someone seeing your junk? The only people I know that stair at peoples junk in the bathroom are guys are who are obsessed with size, either they want to feel like they are bigger then everyone or they want to feel like they aren't smaller. It's not like this guy is going to be walking up next to you at the urinal and be like "that's a fancy penis I wish mine looked that way". In fact most of your trans are going to use the stall and they will even pay attention to when people use the bathrooms so they use it during the slow period. I don't see how this inconvenience you because it actually has no effect on you. I also don't understand how you are more ok with a gay guy seeing your junk then someone who considers themselves a straight guy, who has no interest in you. This is the same attitude of one of the people I have been assaulted by, a female friend broke up with her boyfriends who tracked us down and later assaulted me after we both turned down his advances that night and she asked me to stay at her place in case he showed up. His argument to the judge he thought we were sleeping together even though I have been identify as gay for over 6 years at this point, had a boyfriend at the time, and this guy had made several sexual passes at me and it was one of the reasons she broke up with. The judge basically sided with him giving him a laughable fine and we had to go file protect restraining orders ourselves even though I spent a couple days in the hospital and this was his 4th assault charge and 3rd dwi in 3 years. Basically him and the judge said gay isn't real I believe you where sleeping together so that gave him reason to put me into the hospital for a few days. So just because you don't want to accept that people are really gay or people really are the gender they believe they are that doesn't make it a reality. I don't like using stalls in Texas as a gay male I'm paranoid that someones going to think I'm looking at their junk and attack me. Yes this kinda ***does happen. Your argument states that simply because a small portion of people are attacked and treated differently then the rest that its such a small portion that they shouldn't have the same rights as the other people doesn't make any since, you are not being inconvenienced in fact you are actually not affected by this at all.just that your belief in social constructs in being challenged. The way I was raised was that all nudity was bad, then I realized only nudity around those who lack any kind of self control is bad,and a lot of people used their Christian beliefs to justify their bad behavior by saying well you took your shirt off and I just had to have sex with you nudity is evil and because your naked I can touch your boobs and you can't say anything about it because your a ***, how about take some responsibility. But simply if you don't someone to see your junk why are you walking around with it just hanging out all over the place.

But in all due honesty, the UK is considerably ahead of the US in terms of gender rights and equality.
Someones gay, um who cares? Someone is a girl, who fels like they should be a man? How does this affect ME personally? It doesn't, so the majority of people here no longer care, hence we legalised same sex marriages and equal legal rights.
We have LBGT societies for support and to address any issues whether it be legal, societal or localized to individuals within our schools, companies and universities.
I don't think imperfect people should try judging other imperfect people, whats that saying about glass houses and stones?

It's part of how we sexually identify ourselves. Partially also functional/privacy. I mean urinals do save time in the men's restrooms, so unless the woman in this country learn to pee standing up. Like in that scene from Step Brothers.

Yup, my sisters campus has unisex bathrooms/showers/locker rooms and last I checked no ones raping people on a constant basis. Nor are the males whispering into the ears of women "natural selection" before fondling someone or the females screaming "RAAAAPE" the minute a guy looks at her.
It seems the most prudish and sexually repressed people in our society are the ones who arrive at the fallacious conclusion that both sexes can't keep their hands to themselves.
Calif. Transgender Law Repeal Will Qualify
Quote: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Opponents of a new California law that gives transgender students certain rights said Sunday that they had collected enough signatures for an initiative that would repeal the law.
A coalition of conservative groups called Privacy for all Students submitted 620,000 signatures to get the initiative on the November 2014 ballot, said Frank Schubert, the political strategist handling the signature gathering effort.
To qualify, at least 505,000 valid signatures must be submitted. To verify the signatures, each of California’s 58 counties will first check that the overall count is correct, then conduct a random sampling to make sure they are legitimate. After that, it is likely the state would order a full review.
If, after all of the reviews, the group has the requisite number of valid signatures, the initiative would qualify for the ballot.
“Many people said we had no chance to collect over half a million signatures in just 90 days, but we have proven them wrong by gathering over 115,000 more signatures than the minimum needed,” Gina Gleason of the group Faith and Public Policy, said in a statement.
California is the first state to pass a law detailing the rights of transgender K-12 students.
One of the provisions gives transgender students the choice of playing on either boys or girls sports teams. It also allows them to choose which restroom that want to use.
Gov. Jerry Brown signed the law, AB1266, in September. It goes into effect Jan. 1.
The goal of the law is to reduce discrimination against transgender students.
John O’Connor, executive director of Equality California, the organization that co-sponsored the transgender student law, said he was alarmed by the initiative effort.
“Protecting this law is our number one priority, and we will put everything we’ve got into it,” O’Connor said, adding that he believes public opinion is opposed to discrimination against LGBT people.
The effort to repeal the law got a boost last month when the National Organization for Marriage, which organized the 2008 ballot initiative that outlawed gay marriage in California, joined the effort.
Schubert, who helped organize the signature push, previously led successful campaigns to block same-sex marriage in Maine and North Carolina.
Supporters of the repeal effort argue the law violates the privacy of non-transgender students.
They said 400,000 of the signatures gathered were done by volunteers, as opposed to 220,000 collected by paid staff.
“It shows the degree of opposition that exists to opening the most vulnerable areas of public schools to the opposite sex,” Karen England of Capitol Resources Institute, a coalition member, said in a statement.
This whole story reminds me of the scene from Gun Hill Road, and the transgender student takes the key to the girls restroom everytime and the teacher lectures her parents about it.
I'm perfectly fine with this so long as they are formally diagnosed transgenders(regarding the restroom issue). I'm wondering if K-12 institutions can request that information from their physician or if it falls under patient confidentiality? If anyone could shed light on that- much appreciated :)
I think it's awesome about the sports teams, I think they should apply it to non-trans students too. I knew several girls who wanted to play on the wrestling team in HS and they had the size to back it up.
Quite sad that Veterans Day in California has turned into a rally against transgenders.
