I'm sure I've had many noob moments throughout the years, and will continue to do so, but the one that always comes to mind is the time I was working on a mission, and there were some high level players that were going to help me. I thought I'd get some sneak and invis pots and they'd be so impressed at how prepared I was. I realized when I went to use sneak during the mission, that I bought Silencing Potions instead. ; ;

I remember this little gem. It was actually a noob moment for me and my husband, but until he gets his regular comp back, he can't say anything nor defend himself. So...

Just recently, we decided to do a couple of Royal Jelly fights. We had one other DRG, and he prodded me to go on RDM and told me that all I needed to do was bind and gravity the jellies. Simple enough. So we did it three times, everything went fine. I had a bit of a system going where convert actually didn't lead to my demise. So time for my pops. Would be my freaking luck that on my pops, EVERYTHING goes wrong.

Bind/Gravity refused to stick, and my little convert method killed me. Forgot to put on rr. Oops. Luckily, my husband went DRG/RDM and was able to raise me. Picked up my stuff, then I was like "why the hell wasn't it sticking?!" The other DRG pointed out that it was darksday. So we try again when it was firesday (luckily it was only like a 20-minute wait). Debuffs started to stick again, and I use convert. Get aero'd to death, forgot rr again. Son of a...

Hubby to the rescue! After the fight, he converts, then falls to the ground. Apparently, he still had poison on him. And like 1 hp after converting. What can I say? He likes to live on the edge, crazy *** taru. Everyone gets up and I pick up my spoils--about 200k worth of stuff. Someone got lucky and ended up with Ni AND Phalanx...I'll give you a hint, the SOB got Heka's on 1/2.

There was a happy ending though: I did get Phalanx. My husband gave me the spell after I foreited all but one Ice Spikes scroll that I got to him. So I made nothing out of the run (that scroll still hasn't sold), but I can Phalanxga on SCH now.

When I first started doing Sky I was running with a shell whose leaders were fairly experienced at it, and I really wanted to impress them. Problem was I had no *** idea what I was doing, and managed to aggro Faust and get at least one of the leaders killed because I didn't realise how long his sight aggro range was.

It wasn't the noobiest thing ever, but I remember being so furious at myself and on the verge of tears because I cared so much about making a good impression. Always amazes me how invested I was in XI back then, and for many years afterwards.

yeah my first endgame linkshell did alot of sky and I was only there because a friend got me invited and I had barely gotten sky access and had no idea what I was doing.

they were mean essentially...I mean they were nice enough to tell me not to step in the blue lights but I didn't know what that meant. The entire linkshell had somehow left me behind..I don't know what happened but told me that they were at genbu but wouldn't give me directions and I aggro'd those dolls in the blue lights and I died and they cursed me out like no other and told me that I had to homepoint.

I wanted to cry out of frustration. Had to go on vacation/moved states not long after and that linkshell died and I found a new endgame home which were alot better.

That is quite mean, especially since they knew you didn't know much about sky. And that place sucks without a map or a real guide.

I had a friend who helped with CoP/Zilart missions and gave me a tour of sea/sky. He told me what mobs aggroed and what didn't; introduced me to the evil that are Yovra, etc. I remember doing going into sky and being personally introduced to Kirin. By "personally", this same guide forgot to mention that he can attack anyone outside of alli. So, I got Stonega'd to death. Didn't know wtf happened, but I laughed about it afterwards.

After months of getting parties together and attempts for the Ni scroll to drop in Royal Jelly, one finally drop.

You're so happy that you finally got it... then you zone into palbourough mines before it drops to inventory.

Going to pick up on rank missions after not having done any for a while and getting irritated that the first NPC in the mission won't give you a cutscene, to the point of calling a GM and complaining you can't proceed further in the mission. After several hours of pondering his response of "There is a previous step you have not yet completed", I figured out I had to talk to the Gate Guard.

When I first started playing, I built TP to 100% using a dagger and then switched to a sword to use Fast Blade, since it seemed to be much stronger. I died a few seconds later when my weapon skill didn't go off.

This past weekend, I was in Purgonorgo Isle trying to learn Venom Shell. After finally picking it up, I warped back to Adoulin, outside the Mog House, and switched to my iPad to look something up. About a minute later, I heard the unmistakable sound of a Tarutaru dying because I had warped away with the urganite's poison effect still active. Two steps backwards, and I would have been saved.

When I was a nublet this one guy helped me with something. I don't even remember what it was. What I do remember is being super concerned that I had ended up with all the crystals that dropped and I wanted to make sure he got his cut of the loot. He told me not to worry about it but I mailed them to him anyway.

Looking back it was pretty silly of me.

Someone on another thread mentioned folks not knowing that Perpetuance can be used with Protect and Shell. For the record, I did know this, but what I didn't know (because I am ***at math) is how unnecessarily long it was, especially with +2 hands.

So I Perp>Protect my friend while we were seal farming. Once I realized what I have done (actually meant to Perp>Regen V) I just laughed and told him to enjoy his one-hour-fifteen-minute protect.

We weren't even out there that long.

Throwed away a Cup of Sweet Tea... didn't know you could sell them.

Camped Simurgh for hours and at the time I gave up, I see him popping right in front of me as my warp scroll took effect...

Went as BST to a capped BCNM without jugs/food for the lower level...

Was happy to use my Sunbreeze festival body to teleport to VW Bismarck at a time I didn't had this VW warp yet... forgot stones and cells and had to wait for the boat nevertheless.

Accidently buyd a NQ item for the prize of a HQ item...

Friend and I started on this game together and when I came home from work one day he was hiding in town. He told me of a great flying demon that had chased him and another person from Tahrongi to Sara. He said he stayed there for a minute and then out of no where the creature appeared and chased him and the other all the way to Windurst and he had not left since.

Turns out the other guy was a smn with diabolos.Laughed pretty good when I figured out what had happened a few weeks later. But was always scared to run into the demon he had described up until that point.

Every single day I have at least one noob moment, so i tend to forget a lot of them, however one of the recent:

Helping someone in Abyssea getting blue trigger on THF, it was Evisceration. So I triggered the mob, applied TH, while happily spamming more Eviscerations after that to kill it. Needless to say I double triggered and more or less nothing dropped at all

The first time I was tasked with Kiting as PLD, was Proto-Omega. I was so nervous that when it came time for me to shine, I flashed it, and started running only to find out that I never put shadows up, and died within 2 melees because it stunned me. Didn't expect 700+ dmg melees + En-stun.

Not myself, but I had a friend get told to dispel Ouryu during 40-cap bc fight for CoP, and he accidentally warped. They had to re-farm and re-run the entire way lol.

Doing WAR Maat for my limit break, easiest Maat ever, just opo necklace to 100 to then use tp wing to self skillchain off of own raging rush, with mighty strikes up. I decide to do it at 67 because I'm leet like that, I needed SOME challenge. Opo'd to 100, run up, hit my buffs, hit RR...

Forgot to eat my food, so I whiffed the second RR entirely and died. Had to gather my friends and get testimony ALL over again.

Also, when I started out, I was a MNK dead set on going /THF. I hated WAR because "war sux I don't wanna tank, I want DEX so I can hit more." I didn't even care about SATA, I wanted that DEX. Berserk? Pffft can't be that good. Double attack? *** I'm a MNK I double attack every round.

Ironically, after flaming forums about it for months ("I know what I'm doing! You are all NOOBS!"), I decided to level WAR again because I needed to level up my THF sub, and THF/MNK wasn't working because I needed voke to pull (how many times have you cringed now?) and MNK was a good sub for WAR tanks. Well I got to the dunes and realized I liked WAR more than MNK. I also realized axe/gaxe was best just before I got to the dunes, so I was doing it very right. Parties loved me. I was actually good at this! I redeemed myself all at once and realized what a noob I'd been. Now I am WAR main and haven't touched MNK in years.

My best early noob moment was getting my first level up. When I noticed I didn't have a new job ability upon hitting lvl 2, I was determined that there was some screen/menu I couldn't find where you actually spend points toward job abilities after each lvl up. It took me a few days to realize that you learn job abilities automatically after reaching certain levels... yea... days lol

My best noob moment in an end game situation was running around NNI after FC'ing a room with Retaliation still up. I kept spamming my macro for my movement speed boots and couldn't figure out why i was running so slow. I'm ashamed to admit that this has happened a few times, but the first time was the only time it lasted the full duration of Retaliation lol.

I'm sure there's something worse, but that's the best I got off the top of my head.
