April 29, 2013 Version Update

What it comes down to this and I'll explain why I feel the way I do.

I've played FFXI since December 2003, since that time i've tried a plethora of other MMO games. World of Warcraft, The Old Republic, Guild Wars, Rift, Asheron's Call, Ragnarok Online, Everquest, Ultima Online (went back to play this, played this before XI), Star Wars Galaxies, Redmoon (don't remember if this was around after XI or not), Champions Online, DC universe Online, City of Heroes/Villians, and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

With every single one of those, I played for a month-3 and then came back to FFXI. Nothing kept my interest (TOR may have, but completed all the content pretty quickly). People will call me crazy, but some of my most fun times have been Pre-TOAU doing exp parties in Onzozo, Valley of Sorrows, Bibiki Bay doing giraffes or flies in Dragon's Aery. It was a grind yes, but I enjoyed it. I'm a combat oriented person, I don't want to bang my head on a keyboard and roll my face over it to attack. So Yes, I would rather go out and Kill bunnies to get to level 5, because it's something I have preferred for the past 10 years.

I'm sitting here in game, and I don't even know what I should be doing.


After looking at the Delve info, particularly pictures like the one below, I have no idea which gear I should still be working towards.




I feel like I should do nothing but reives and dynamis until the difficulty of everything new is figured out. So close to being done with Salvage I for my group, but I don't want to waste time.

The mage gear because it looks coolest of the three.

Yeah because 99 REM are 10 years old.

Introduce a new patch, outdating some older equipment and...

Anyone have an upload yet to todays patch? Seems for the past hours. Only getting the fun POL-1161 screen... >.> Passed out sleeping while I kept clicking "Retry" >.<

Update

POL-1161 is still a problem though.

Not sure if I overlooked it in the notes, but they added the number of assault points you have in each zone to the remnant permit NPC's dialogue.

I'm sure xiv-2 will be a fine game and all, but there is zero doubt that it's a wow clone

funny.. everyone rage quitting over a better weapon?. it time to move on from relic. do we really wanna keep updating the same old relic? at the time it was beast but come on... i pay $900+ for a freaking VCR back then and now blu-rays blows that out the window for around $60-100. now where my VCR update?

You would not have bought the VCR in the first place if it cost you $100000 though

For better or worse, WoW's MMO model has changed the industry for the foreseeable future. The fundamental system is unavoidably going to be emulated in newer games because it did a lot of things right. What new MMOs are going to be judged on are what the game does to build on those fundamentals. For FF, the element is tends to do very well with is story, and this, along with many other game mechanics, are missing from early beta versions of the game.

Exclaiming "ZOMG WOW CLONE" just comes off as empty criticism.

Head -> desk. They aren't moving on from relics. They ARE going to "keep updating the same old relic." There was a delay between when they released Empyreans and when they updated Relics/Mythics from their level 75 versions. The fact that these new weapons exist and the R/M/E haven't been adjusted yet means absolutely nothing except a.) SE never does anything in a timely manner and b.) that we have other things to play around with while we wait for them to be on top again. It's hardly even a debate. They've kept legendary weapons on top for 10 years, even when it required updates. They've said they're doing the same thing yet again. I don't know why people still think they won't.

I expect one, but to fix the Anomaly Mithra's face, not the weapon issues.

Hrm seems even that update link isnt complete. 290 more files to download after applying that zip update file.

as someone who missed the blinker train and made a mythic anyway this patch didn't make me mad as much as it is just making me laughing

I don't expect those ugly new weapons to be the best ones.
Maybe if SE reviews their design...

Even those without R/E/M are allowed to be angry. The balance that allowed older content to remain relevant is now gone. Aside from a very few select pieces (Novio Earring, Epona's Ring, etc), almost everything that does not take place in SoA is now completely outdated. Before today, you could choose from a variety of events to participate in, have fun, and receive relevant gear in some way or another. Now? Everything worth a damn is in one event: Delve.

The variety that made this game so enjoyable for a decade is now mostly dead. Aside from my main job of BLM being made even more irrelevant, that is at least my main gripe with the update from today.

WTF? They are introducing new statues...and you can craft them from existing statues?!? What kind of OP @#@$ is that?

I can see how ridiculous all of that new gear is. But am I really the only one here not enjoying the game because I can dish out damage like multiple nuclear blasts, but because of many other things?

I can only understand butthurt from people with R/M/E, as they spent an immense amount of time and gil to acquire these. But those are supposed to get an upgrade. Quitting a game you've been loving over years while finding some nice people to play with (as well as seeing all these well-made storylines made for it) over some weapons that seemingly have some outrageous stats is very sudden.

There's no saying whether the values on these things are final, and whether they will be obtainable in the near future. Maybe they're even trolling us. Don't just slam the panic button over this. As said, I was surprised as well, but there's so much whining going on that could be time well-spent otherwise. Maybe take your dog for a walk, play with your cat, or even go on a date with your partner while you're waiting for the update to load and yourself to cool down. The world's not gonna end like this.

I don't think you're looking at the same gear that I'm looking at. A handful of pieces can be replaced, as they should be when there's a WHOLE NEW EXPANSION. But every piece of gear? No. Not even close.
