I love it how ppl rated me down 1 month ago for predicting this.
§/&$&T your couch guys, i was right. I thought we rated you down because your tattoo was ugly.
That little dogthing's voice naturally reads all your posts in my head.

These new weapons are quite outstanding, and I'm not sure how long the Devs take to actually develop them...but I'm wondering if maybe the fact that Yoichi Wada stepping down as Square Enix President could have something to do with such a substantial change to the content of this game? Just food for thought.
The weapons aren't 'outstanding'. They remove relevance from everything that came before - literally everything until r/e/m update.
@Enuyasha; Abyssea came with a level upgrade, and even then it didn't make everything from 75 pointless. This update remains within the sphere of level 99, but shits on everything from before - INCLUDING existing 99 weapons. But still people are complaining there are better weapons and gear than what they have now (this time, its because they are VASTLY better[with a buff update coming to your favorite bandwagon weapons]). Parallel: yes there is one.
Level cap up or not, the same people archetypes will rage quit over nothing and mass exodus at some point for the same reasons, even if its differing circumstances.
It's not the new weapons, it's not 100% the lack of Relic updates, it's the fact that Relics fell behind stuff added last month and have yet to be updated while THAT equipment is already obsolete, and relics STILL have not had a single boost. Why buy these new crafted weapons? Why try for Delve gear? Which, by the way, looks very lackluster. When it will all be obsolete next month? That is the mistake Matsui is making. Showing us this fast release of over the top gear just gives less incentive to do anything at the moment. My gripe is different, as I am a beautiful, unique snowflake, my gripe is over the lack of support for RUN and GEO, and yes, I know they were updated today, no, I'm not impressed.
I think Matsui suffers from premature ejaculation.

You just gave me an hour and a half of my life.
Further, I've already taken so many hours of yours in the cellhelp thread.

It is a strange senseless thing they're doing. Giving us these at the same time as legendary upgrades would be sensible, as would R/E/M coming first, but this is spitting in the face of R/E/M people.
I'm barely affected, unless those new shields block like ochain and break pdt/mdt cap.

Chances are, people are jumping the gun. Even if this stuff is all released today, this could be a climate modification of the current game. A way to decrease the variance between upper and lower class players, forcing everyone onto a level playing field, where they (the devs) can then build from. Problem is, that was Abyssea, and they botched that by releasing VW, and nothing else.

Erm...voidwatch is still easy mode. The game as it stands is fairly damn balanced between upper and lower class players, any more balancing would remove the point of people putting in more effort, and thus essentially reduce the lifespan of characters.

I think Matsui suffers from premature ejaculation. Yet, for YEARS the player base has bitched and moaned for constant and numerous "worthwhile" pieces of gear and guess what: they rage quit because they dont like these particular events (which they asked for).

you have never owned a business and switched or merged with another company I assume.
If you just shut it down without giving people something before hand you will lose far more clients than by trying to entice them into something new.
If SE just flat out kills 11 they lose almost all clients out of spite, but if they give us something that makes us want more then slowly kill off support for it all then we are more inclined to move to 14.
There are the skeptics and the people that think I am trolling, whatever. I don't care. hate me, bash me, flame me, the end result is you just can't wrap your head around a concept bigger than your biased thoughts, and I would assume you have never owned your own business.
Fact, SE gave us a bunch of weapons with nearly double damage than our current best.
Fact, SE already cut off support for one of the operating systems ffxi ran on.
Fact, most of those new smash the ***out of what we have, is obtained through crafts.
Fact, the r/m/e weapons take far longer to obtain with way less DPS
Fact, when people get bored with things they quit doing them.
Faster to get best possible gear/weapons. People get bored, people move on to something else. And whether or not you like ffxiv, people will move to that when finished with 11 due to, well lets face it, the name sells itself.
Boredom = quitting and finding something to fill that void.
Spite = people to not buy or use your products anymore. Well, when you put it that way... it sounds more ridiculous!

This isn't what people asked for.

If they were trying to kill off FFXI they just wouldn't add anything more would they?
It's stupid spending time and money to create an expansion/update to thin out the player base. Economically it's not viable. They would be better off not creating any further updates and focusing on FFXIV if they wanted us off XI.

I've never owned a business full stop.
However, they could make people bored quicker by just leaving the game to fester. No new content and same old stuff equates to boredom.
That's a way to slowly ween people off FFXI and onto FFXIV.
A lot of people, even if they don't like the way the game is heading, are gonna carry on playing and they're gonna try get hold of this new gear. It's not going to make them quit any faster.
SE have not created this expansion or this update to force people to quit.
