Downgrade the driver to 260.99 (October 2010) and you will probably hit around 8000 on that benchmark ...

Edit: I obviously mean this only for people using older cards like 8xxx series or G200 based like my GTX280 ... People with Fermi (400x series, some 500 series GFxxx core), Kepler(600/700 series GKxxx core) or Tesla (to be released) cards should disregard this as old drivers won't work with their cards ...

Ran it against 311.06; downloading 260.99 and 320.18.
I wouldn't expect performance to deteriorate (i.e. would have expected gains in 260.99 to be carried forward), but hell, I've seen enough crazy things in software that I'll test it rather than make assumptions.
Since both of our desktops are pretty much identical, I might as well figure out the best combination on one before working on the other.

Version;Score;FPS
311.06;6390;54.914
260.99;6893;58.976
311.06;4229;35.025
260.99;4971;40.938
311.06;2950;23.708
260.99;3135;25.259

Interesting, 260.99 gives roughly 10-20% better performance than the current drivers. That's nothing to shake a stick at.

Does 260.99 usually run better on other games too? I am running a GTX260 (not related to driver number) with the latest firmware. I have noticed declines in performance in the past, after updating the drivers..

The release notes are here.

Honestly, I can't say that one driver would be faster than the other without doing testing.

Can you run the benchmark? If nothing else, try installing directx9c via microsoft's web installer. I know that running the downloadable installer on a just-installed version of win7 is not sufficient, despite the confirmation dialogs.

For me that was enough to get both 1.0 and ARR benchmarks to work on a freshly installed Windows7 PC. I am not sure if it results on a fully working DirectX 9 install on Windows 7 but it certainly was enough to allow the benchmarks to run.

Funny enough the FFXI benchmarks won't run on W7 or Vista no matter what you try.

first time on default medium settings

second time on default maximum

now if this time around they could just make the servers not lag...

edit:

retested on full screen 1080res, dropped a bit but staying over 60 fps gets no complaints from me

Did they nerf the requirements to run this game again or something? On the first benchmark i ran a few weeks back I scored a 7597 (non overclocked) on max settings. Downloaded this character creation one and it shot up to 15,140 on max setting (without even overclocking).

ist a Gigabyte gtx 780 oc (under water)

+ around 290gpu clock (compared to a non oc model without extra overclocking)
+ around 400 Memory clock ( can go to about +450/470 Memory)

I7 4770k @ 4,7ghz

it seemed they optimized the GPU usage and lowerd the cpu usage .

going from stock 3.5ghz to 4.7ghz only gave me around 200 Points .

going from 1600 8gb ram to 2100 8gb ram also only gave me another 150 Points

also i have seen another screenshot with a gtx680 who had 15300 Points with 2560x1600.
it seem there are some glitches in it .

he might had all the shiney stuff deactivated in the Nvidea settings

I'm guessing there are some glitches with this benchmark yes cause jumping from 7597 from old benchmark to 15,140 with this latest benchmark using the same unchanged PC seems questionable to me.

I really wish they would up the graphics settings significantly. Personally I feel I should not be able to score 'extremely high' on max settings with a 2 year old PC that wasn't even cutting edge back then. Given that it's an MMO and I plan to be with it for a while (this time -- hopefully) I feel like they should aim for max settings to be very, very high, such that very few can turn everything all the way up. Then, in a few years or so as the player base gradually updates as they will, more and more players can continue to turn the settings up higher and higher. Setting it so that mediocre PCs can run at max settings from the start just means that we'll all feel that the graphics are dated and dull in 2 years or less.

If all this is referring to your score using the latest benchmark then there is a chance that the benchmark is glitched anyway and your score isn't really anywhere near what it displays at the end (I know for me my score almost doubled what it used to be on the old benchmark and considering that the cut scenes are both the same in each benchmark and the computer is exactly the same for both times i ran it it seems suspicious and questionable). Anyway I was under the impression that when they remade the game what they reworked was really the battle mechanics, UI, content etc and not necessarily the graphics (which was never the problem to begin with with the game).

game looks amazing, i don't see your point. just because it's not a GPU raper means nothing. properly optimized, amazing games can run on low end cards. poor optimiztion, and the shittiest looking game can make your card run like crap

I agree tho, My score was 9300 old benchmark 1080P. Now it jumped up to 15,600 seems off especially since I have a HD 7850 OC to 1100MHZ and GTX 780's getting similar scores. Yep seems off. I mean sure my CPU is good Intel i5 4670K but I doubt it'll make that much of a difference lol.

The graphics engine is being reworked as well. Here's an article from Kotku where they mention it, and how it was made to better optimize PS3.

So i tried the benchmark and got this...
Mind you I didn't change any of the setting just change from high to standard laptop

I find it odd and unsure why it shows my intergrated graphic card there but if I go to setting it shows my NVIDIA...

Idk alot about quality in terms of resolution but when I switched it to Full screen (resolution still the same)
I got slightly better score in high laptop (got 5426)
Of course I suppose not that much of a difference...

"If" I do decide to play full screen should I change the resolution to match my screen's or just leave at that?
Never mind think I got my answer...when I changed it to 1600 X 900 (also my computer's resolution) I got 3950 :P

Standard settings got 9782
Everything max got 6200

I'm happy with that but been doing beta with no trouble so didn't expect to be low as original game.

System:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Service Pack 1
AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 Processor
8189.242MB
AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series(VRAM 4095 MB) 8.17.0010.1191

No overclocking on system and still gotta get more memory this MB can hold
