Pirating is stealing. There is no grey area here.

Quote:
and no: some people (like me) will buy things from time to time, but I won't pay for a broken game, they have forced my hand now, so if I acquire it: it will be when it's available to private server/offline, and I will pirate it when that time comes.

You are exactly the reason they require this connectivity to play in the first place. It isn't exactly what you want, and you use that as justification to steal it instead of obtaining it through valid, legitimate, legal means.

It is, in fact, oranges to oranges.

If I see a shirt at the store that's my size, but not the color I wanted, but I still want it...through your description, I'm justified to just take it.

I just bought a car. I wanted the 2012 model because it got great reviews from both consumer groups and people I know. Test drove it, loved it. They had the exactly car I wanted, just in a different color than my primary choice. But the primary color choice was not available because of the lateness of the model year.

By your example, I would have been perfect justified to commit grand theft auto.

Look. I'm not saying you're equal to a murderer here, but the fact of the matter is, you are stealing something. And you're just looking for 200 different ways to justify it.

Admit that you feel like you're entitled to it without paying for it and go about your day.

I miss the days of, "there is no cow level."

By putting one in D2 they went from the more modern equivelent of "the cake is a lie" to making the cake real. ;;

I've been looking at picking this game up to play with my bro but after reading some of this I might wait a bit for them to work the kinks out...

May as well pick it up now. t's not going to go down in price for quite some time. Get the download out of the way and get a head start where you can.

I know many working musicians that think you're absolutely full of ***and have empty bank accounts to prove it. You're stealing. Deal with it.

Quote:
you cannot stop piracy, you cannot.

(as for the bills they're trying to pass, it has nothing to do with piracy, they just say it does.)

We agree on this, at least. And yeah. All the SOPA and associated bills aren't about piracy or protection of intellectual property. They're about big business maintaining control.

As for piracy, no. You're never going to eliminate it.

But just because you cannot stop it does not make it right.

I am not stealing anything, I am not removing anything from anybody's possession, they still have it.

you can call me a thief all you want, but it doesn't make it true.

if you pirate, you are acquiring something without paying.. and the person who made the thing you are acquiring, is not receiving the due compensation he would have had you acquired it legitimately.
these are facts.
you can argue over semantics all you want. everything i just said is absolutely true, even if it doesn't fit your pocket dictionary literal definition of theft.

ask yourself this, even if it were NOT illegal, would it be RIGHT?

if you are justified in pirating it because it's not ideal, why are you pirating it? if it's worth screwing over the creator, then why isn't it worth 60$?

you ever seen amv hell?

you ever buy a used game?

edit: you are under the assumption that morals aren't subjective, aren't you?

I think morals have some leeway, but are not subject to complete situational fluidity. If they were, there would be no point.

I am pretty certain, however, you're a self-indulgent narcissist.

Edit: "Narcissist" actually has quite a few definitions and variations. Since it seems to be a fun hobby for you, why don't you look that up and see if you can figure out which ones I think apply to you. Because I'm done talking to you about this.

to buy a used game, someone had to trade it in. meaning the person who traded it in no longer HAS it. so if they wanted to play, they would have to acquire another copy. nothing is generated, it is simply moved.

when you pirate a game, it's not a 1:1 ratio of pirate copies to legit sales that a used market forces. the pirate copy is copied over and over and over. the initial hacker who cracked the game isn't going to buy another copy every time he distributes a pirate copy.

it's like handing someone a dollar, vs. handing a million people 1$ each, that you printed in your basement.

edit: also, just ftr, i don't buy used games. though i accept that it is not nearly so morally dubious a practice as pirating

Unsure how it is a broken game, anything using online servers have issues on the first launch week.

But anyways, Pirating diablo 3 will be a massive challenge, most things are handled server side, like items and monster AI.

oh idk how about the lack of lan for multiplayer when their old game supported it, or the lack of being able to play a single player game offline...

as for the bottom: there's already private servers in the works, granted it would require a hefty computer to handle both tasks, or a network, but still more stable.

Then it's not broken, they never announced LAN party or Offline single player, they were very clear on that.

removing features that a previous version of a game has in the newest version = broken.

or just the fact that a single player game is required to be online, is broken in of itself.

with how popular Diablo is, and there's already people who know Blizzard's code, I doubt it.
