"Maintenance" is just a fancy word they use to say their servers crashed and they had to call Jim-bob to come fix it who lives an hour away.

Seeing as how I've played XI for about 7 years, yes I have.

Since it's Blizzard and not SE we're talking about here, I've never seen Blizzard have servers go down hours after sales of the game.

Could be a few things just brainstorming off the top of my head, but:

  • To gather user data of how players play the game and any error's they run into

  • If the game has an achievement system then it would require it

  • To monitor any exploits/glitches that were missed

  • Lazy coding

it has to do with the rmt and to prevent exploits and to prevent pirating, and the former I could care less about and the latter is the reason that when somebody bypasses it I will pirate it. I was going to purchase it, but screw that now.
