Out of the new spells for 95, Barrier Tusk took me a while to learn. I did a little bit of research on it, but was unable to find anything to support my observartions - however, what I noticed was that once both marid tusks were broken, it wouldn't use barrier tusk anymore. I had one marid that I held for nearly 20 mins with 2 broken tusks, all the while it never used barrier tusk (although I saw every other possible TP move, multiple times each)

I did see barrier tusk used when one tusk was broken, but never 2. Flavor-wise it would make sense if it was unable with the tusks broken. After all, how can your tusks make a barrier if they don't exist?

Can anyone else confirm my suspicion?

On a completely unrelated note, as I was hunting barrier tusk and had noticed that it wouldn't use the TP move on me with 2 broken tusks, I met another JP BLU that was out to farm the same spell. I asked him if he'd like to team up and he sent me an invite. Now... I tried to convey to him that I didn't think the mobs would use the move with 2 broken tusks. However, he spoke no english so I was taxed with using the auto translator. I could think of no combination of translator terms to get my message across. <break> likely means something similar to petrify when translated to japanese, and there is no way to translate horn or tusk (that I am aware of).

On a whim, I decided to go to http://translate.google.com to see if I could get it to translate something like "no spell when 2 broken tusks" to the english spelled version of japanese (I'm sorry I'm ignorant with regard to what this is called), but google translate didn't have this option (or if it did, I didn't know how to find it). The best it would do was translate my sentence to literal japanese characters. I thought I had read that the english client doesn't support typing in japanese characters, but I wondered if I could use the copy/paste ability of windower to get the japanese characters into my command line.

To my surprise, it worked, so I sent a message like this:

/p 何呪文ない場合、2壊れた牙

And my JP counterpart sent back "1 = O, 2 = X?", letting me know he understood what I had said.

I know those language translators aren't perfect, but it worked for me in this instance when I had absolutely no other idea on how to convey my message to him. Really cool :)

"no spell when 2 broken tusks"

google translate

何呪文ない場合、2壊れた牙
If you have to resort to machine translation, keep in mind that it can only ever be as accurate as you are.

For instance, despite being a native English speaker, if you gave me a "sentence" reading "no spell when 2 broken tusks", I wouldn't have the slightest idea what you're talking about without the context at hand (something my machine counterpart is also lacking).

On the other hand, plugging this: You can't learn the spell if 2 tusks break.
into google translate yields the following: 2牙が壊れているときは、呪文を学ぶことはできません。
which on top of being grammatically accurate, also makes sense and is actually pretty dead on.

Just a word of advice.

Thanks for the tip. Looking over my sentence above, the translator could have quite possibly interpreted "spell" as the verb "spell", as in how to spell a word. Probably gonna have to be creative when I use this method so that there's no ambiguity.

Another really easy way to at least make Marids use Barrier Tusk once a fight, is to get them down to around 30% HP~ make sure they have over 100% TP, and then sudden lunge them below 25% HP and RUN.

Whenever a monster has over 100% TP when it drops below 25% HP it will always use a TP move, and if you arent in range (Marids are slow and you've just stunned it), it will only use Barrier Tusk (as you don't need to be in range for it to use it)

Exuviation was simple to solo back at 75. Spam regurgitation and cast yawn if bind breaks before recast is up on the spell. Wamoura have MP as well, so you could keep your MP up via MP drainkiss.

Been reading through this thread as I work on my BLU and I've seen a comment or two saying that all spells can be soloed nowadays (though some are harder than others of course). How true is this? I thought some were just downright unsoloable like Hysteric Barrage. Working on Sub-Zero Smash at the moment. Can't comment on whether being behind the Ruszor is required or not because the damn weather has been nonstop for 4 hrs now giving me no chance to see it. So anyways, are there any that are not soloable, or maybe hard enough so they're just not worth trying to solo?

You can definitely solo them if you're level 95. Soloing them the moment they become available to you may be a bit more difficult though, and I would suggest bringing a high level along.

Reaving Wind(one from Turul-like monsters) might be annoying to solo, but it's doable, especially at 95.

And you might find Behemoths bad, but you can just enter Apollyon if you're having too much trouble.

I always enjoyed spell hunting in large groups, it added to the whole MMO experience, but if you can't find someone, there's likely a monster in that monster group that can be killed solo.

You can be in front of the ruszor, I solo'd SZS straight-tanking back at 75. Every spell was soloable at 75 cap, though not necessarily at learn level... none of the new spells have changed that. Each update's spells have been soloable by some method at that update's level cap.

I was stuck at Lv.60 for like 6 months trying to learn Memento Mori and Body Slam back in the day. Nowadays those spells would be stupid easy to learn. After I got back from over a year's absence, I had a lot of fun trying to learn Thunderbolt to break the Lv.90 cap.

Still Lv.95 because of Quadrastrike, Tourbillion, Thunder Breath, Bilgestorm, and Bloodrake, but that's mostly because I haven't really "tried" yet.

After those, I'll have every spell I need to break the Lv.95 cap and hit 99. I'm excited :3

Mine? Power Attack. I spent hours and hours and hours in Ronfaure killing beetles.

Checked my magic list at one point and found that I already had it.

This. Pollen took me 3 and a half weeks to learn, after that I didn't feel like playing BLU anymore.

I actually quit leveling BLU due to not be able to learn Bludgeon.

Not that I got very far, but it was fun until that point.

Hats off to you for not skipping it and continuing on. I think it's very admirable when a Blue Mage collects their spells along the way without missing a single one, no matter how challenging.

I encountered a Lv.99 Blue Mage today who didn't even have all of his Yellow Abyssea Stagger spells. Missing I think three of them in total. And those are important spells-- I'd hate to see how many nonessential spells he was missing.

Heck, a couple of years ago back when Lv.75 was still the cap, I knew a Lv.75 Blue Mage who had 11 spells. And Head Butt wasn't among them.
