So many people hating on Southern accents. /sigh Oh well.
I don't particularly dislike any accent. I think a lot of the time they can be funny, but I guess it's more of stuff like what Slip and Krizz said. If I can't understand them because their accent is so thick, and if they stick to using slang from their dialect then I become frustrated.
What I think is more funny/frustrating is when someone has an accent, but then they deny that they have one. Such as most of my friends from the New England area. It only gets frustrating though, when they start making fun of other accents to boost their self-esteem. It generally starts with Southerner bashing. :(
I've lived in Georgia for the majority of my life(currently do), but during my formative years my family constantly moved. I lived in Panama Central America, first in a near slum like house with a landlord, then on the military base. I lived a couple years in Maryland. I traveled a lot in the southwest. My local friends say I don't have an accent, but I think otherwise. I know sometimes, especially when I talk slowly, that I start to drag my words and dip my toes in a Southern drawl. My friends from New England think either that my accent is unbearablely heavy, or that I sound like I am from Texas. Everyone else says something different, but I definitely have something unique/noticeable going on with my voice! xD
