So I haven't yet put a AV onto this PC... but it has that microsoft security essentials thing on ... good enough or should I still seek a free AV?
Hey Jet.... I was reading the specs for my mobo... and it says it supports up to 7.1 audio but under it it says
Manufacturer_site said: Realtek ALC889 codec
High Definition Audio
2/4/5.1/7.1-channel
* To configure 7.1-channel audio, you have to use an HD front panel audio module and enable the multi-channel audio feature through the audio driver.
Support for S/PDIF Out
what exactly does that mean or what do I have to do ?

I'm currently trying out Avast Internet Security, it also is very good. I think maybe a bit better than norton.
Anyways, that's just me. I don't really know these things so don't go off of me :(

THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING!!

norton is absolute *** trash, not to mention they whitelist government malware.
Microsoft Security Essentials should do fine, however I should note that it will false positive keygens.
Avast has gone to the wayside from what I've heard, but I never really used it so can't say for certain.
The thing is: for the most part, they use the same definitions, it's just a matter of the resources and the gui you use, I prefer low resource solutions, norton and mcafee don't fall in that category.

the wires and or jumpers inside have to be hooked up properly, and you have to have the driver set up properly, exactly how to do so you'd have to read your front panel and motherboard manual.
well and have a sound system capable of it.

yeah I got the sound system for it.
the wording just confuses me lol... would that mean I'd have to hook it up with the front audio or would it like ... disable the line in and mic ports on the back and turn them into speaker inputs?

I Agree about Norton, absolute trash.
I use Avast (Free) and it works brilliantly, only once has something got by it, then Malwarebytes nuked it. I have microsoft secruty center and firewall disabled. They don't do anything but take up space.
If you want a Paid for AV then PANDA is the best I have ever used.

Think I shall leave my PC running all night and see what happens, if it locks up... usually turn it off due to heat and whatnot but actually this new one seems to be not kicking off so much heat since I downgraded to a smaller mid sized case :3

Why do you say norton is trash btw, just wondering.
I know it use to be a resource hog, it isn't anymore. Are you saying it can't protect your computer as well as other things?
I know if it thought something was bad it would delete it and you couldn't recover it.
Avast doesn't seem like it is bad at all.
I absolutely hate Mcafee though.
Would like to know why they are bad and what I should be using.

I fix more PCs that are infested with Malware/Viruses that have Norton installed then any other AV. (I'm kinda the go to computerguy in my neighborhood)
This isn't like, outdated norton either. This is full paid for up to date license, full system scans and comming up 'clean' then running a free AV and picking up 30+ objects.

still is a resource hog in comparison.
it's an overbearing program to have on a machine, aka bloated.
It purposely white lists government malware as a deal, unacceptable.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials, runs rather low, don't even know it's there unless it hasn't been updated or ran a scan in a bit, or unless it finds something.
For the most part all A/V use about the same definitions, there's no point in paying for it when you can get it for free.
The only exception to this rule is if you're managing multiple computers and want centralized management of your machines, and I don't know of a free one off the top of my head.

I dunno, Norton 360 works pretty damn good for me. Nothing malicious in over a year. I had Trend Micro on my old computer, but I got hit with this crazy thing... what was it called again? I can't remember, but it was like a super trojan of sorts that gets in your boot files, and it also invades your system restore files. In fact, it pretty much weaseled its way onto everything important to starting the computer and for uninstalling aaaaand it killed access to the internet. Anyway, long story short, it corrupted my Trend Micro, which I still don't fully understand, so I installed Norton 360 after basically purging my entire hard drive and using the window's OS disk reinstall thingie... I'd be more cohesive in my computer lingo an verbage, but it's late and I don't care. Point is this, I don't think Norton 360 is necessarily better than any other Antivirus program, though it is really good imo, but generally when the common person gets a bad virus, regardless of antivirus program, they haven't a clue as to what said virus is doing or how to fix it.
Really, if you're going around and torrenting stuff and doing other crazy ***you're going to eventually run into something that your antivirus can't handle or won't detect. THat's just the way it is, so just get a decent antivirus, Norton's is fine now(it just has a biase and stigma against it) and stay away from crazy ***like torrenting.

:x!
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
