I do believe these exercises were designed to torture and interrogate spies.
If you are doing weighted squats then don't do lunges the same day. Do leg curls if you have the option to. Squats are superior to lunges and have a lower chance of injuring you. If you really want to do lunges, then alternate days. Squats with one workout, lunges replacing squats for the next.
