Yeah they are needed, but to a certain extent. People pay large amounts for phone bills that include dumb features on their high priced phones. Or they spend 40 bucks on food that is overpriced or that they could save making something themselves with higher nutritional benefit. It's all about spending your money on things you enjoy. I don't see how its any different for a game, and it certainly isn't an indication of being rich.
