After people discovered that they occasionally could attack twice, they concluded that they should occasionally pay twice.

Now when you can occasionally attack 8 times, then you can occasionally pay 8 times too.

Randomly i heard the term “roguelike”, and its interesting how i never heard it before.

A Youtuber listed the 8 basic characteristics that makes a roguelike game. While some of it is pretty much something i like, the lack or lost of progression is underwhelming to me.

And randomly generated maps seems like something quite annoying to do.

But a saw some variation of roguelike that uses card system. Considering i deeply enjoy many of yugioh games, i feel like i would enjoy it too

Rouguelikes are definitely an interseting concept but also ain't for the faint of heart, I know I can't do it, lol.

A sub-genre of the Roguelikes are "Roguelites" (similar name, I know) which is defined as:

Quote:
A subgenre of roguelikes that has most of the game design philosophies of roguelikes but also has at least one progression element that persists after failure.

If you've heard of Hades or Binding of Isaac, these fall under these sub-categories.

If you want a Roguelite game that has card game like mechanics, try looking into Inscryption and Slay the Spire, both of which are on discount on Steam right now.

I have an Octave Club, and I'm mildly annoyed that it exists in the form that it does. It would be nice to have an actual rare/ex K.Club option, but I guess they don't want a bunch of people botting Lord of Onzozo.

It kinda blows my mind that a level 63 item is still not only relevant, but highly-demanded in an era where everyone is level 119.

If buff stacking weren't so obscene and mobs evasion wasn't reduced every time, it wouldn't be.

That reminds me of a picture I saw a while ago that I can't find now (and it's killing me) where they showed "games then vs. games now", and it was something like this:

"Games Then": Plop you into a world with no idea where you go, you die 50 times and get frustrated.

"Games Now": OK little Timmy, let me hold your hand from point A to point B. No running off on your own.

And I mean, I get it. They're both good and bad in their own ways. It can be frustrating with how cryptic some older games (including XI) could be. And until you've spent hundreds of hours on it to learn the ins and outs of the world and its mechanics, it's intimidating. Fast-forwarding to today where there's very little freedom, even in so-called "open-world" games, because staging things makes it easier to spoon-feed the player stuff to do.

Augh. I'm frustrated right now that I can't find the picture anywhere. You'd think I would have saved it because it really was both funny and true, making fun of both sides of the coin.

Well, finally got power back this morning. No idea if the electric company will roll another one out. I guess those things are all the rage now to solve a grid strain.

Got about an hour of play in on Horizon. Almost got level 10 RDM, and spells up to Cure II and Slow with the gil I earned from Quadavs raw, Rank 2 reward, and NPCing stuff I probably should have AH'd.

For whatever reason, Poison is extremely reliable and kills stuff wickedly fast. I started taking on Tough goblins at level 6, and before I knew it I was level 9 and they were DC/EP.

Shield Blocks and Parries seem to be happening a lot, even though skill ups for them don't.

I dont really blame current players though

There are things that are actually worth to invest time, and others that simply dont.

For example, back last year when i was actually trying to get into fighting games, no matter how i tried i could never beat the the king of fighters 94 second to last boss. Admittedly i dont have the finger/mental agility to perform combos, but its damn annoying the thought of fighting a machine that can actually know what command you can input, then block at exact time.

I actually checked how people try to beat those bosses, butin the end, many of those strategies relies on exploiting some AI technical error, what really brings the question: why hone your skills to the best you can only to resort to cheap tricks basically none tells you about, only random players that magically discovered it casually?

Ever heard of the term "SNK Boss Syndrome"?

Against AI you don't really have to hone your skills, aside from maybe learning a combo or two to be able to dish out good damage. You just find a hole in their AI and exploit that.
The reason you decide to invest time in honing your skills (reaction time, confirms, etc) is to beat human opponents (the real fun of fighting games).

Blatantly Overpowered Offense: A trademark of the SNK Boss. Where you have fireballs, the boss has full-screen lasers that come out faster than you can blink, deal damage equivalent to 1/4 of a health bar (and also deal about a third of that in chip damage if you block it), and snuff out all other projectiles. If you have an invincible uppercut, the boss likely has one where he surrounds himself with lightning for more hits and damage, and can cancel out fireballs. They also likely have lots of unblockables, in addition to doing lots of chip damage, having confusing or difficult-to-block attacks, frame advantages no matter what you block, and deal tons of guard damage (and possibly have at least one instant guardbreak). If you get past the first round, the second round is vastly worse - they may enter permanent rage mode, automatically start with full super and/or EX meters, gain brutal new attacks, or otherwise go from rough, but doable to absolutely ridiculous. These types of bosses sometimes, but not always, have a maximum level super where they show off their superiority by utterly annihilating you regardless of your current health, usually combined with Fingerpoke Of Doom for maximum insult.

Ow, man, this brings me back those (painful) memories

The strangest example of this is that I have found is in Soul Calibur. I used a very simple move on Siegfried over and over again and for whatever reason the enemies don't block it very well (even on higher difficulties).

That's not the weird part, though. The weird part is that has worked in every game in the long-running series.

Why I can play all day against others and do decent, against the AI I get floored.

I honestly hated those games. I tried the power rangers one and rage quit. When I was young I would just sit in a corner and do uppercut. Half the time the combos feel like they don't work and you just button mashing .

I feel sorry for kids growing up in this time, Christmas was such a magical time when I was a kid. Now people are afraid to even say the word. Everywhere you look people are denigrating every aspect of it.

Few more years and it wont be noted at all, even stores seem afraid to note it outside of telling you they will be shut for a few hours on "the day"

I just now noticed two cruel form to inflict real damage on players in games:

- Placing the last save point right at final dungeon entrance, makes sure that, if player fails, he will have to redo all the headache of beating the entire dungeon.
- Placing the last save point right before the final battle, but after the entire dungeon with no way to return: now the cruelest form, if player isnt ready to beat the final boss, that means failing in being a decent challenge against the boss will force you to redo the ENTIRE game just for another chance...
