How do people EXP from 90/95 to 99 these days?
What I did was walk into one of the Rhapsodies zones and pop an exp ring. I'd recommend the Sky zone for it. Go in with five trust npcs out.

Is this the best way or are there other ways?
The best exp from 95-99 is coming with me into outer ra'k skirmish.

But it's a 6+ hour trek to unlock the zone even at 99, so that's not plausible for your first job. We can always do seconds and thirds.
Last time I leveled a job 95-99 region was in Rala waterways crabs. Easypeasy etc etc.

I bought a set of footpedals for mech games, have yet to try it out, but I imagine it will be interesting.

Can we do those with our current "mid tier" Abyssea Gear + trusts? We have plenty of Sparks to buy the "starter" sparks gear now, but obviously need LV99 to wear it. xD

We also need to do the 95 LB Quest, but still need to farm a Fossilized Bone to make that Tail thing. Best place to farm that?

If I recall correctly they just revamped the rewards for logins and they're no longer on it. They should put it on the curio moogle or something though.
