I'm not sure if I feel worse for the poor man or if I feel worse thinking that's how it felt going through ffxi last night. Walk tall you glorious ***, you made it to the beginning of the end.
A surprising amount.
Many people i know who played on PS2/Xbox lived in remote parts of the states, or Remote parts of Europe on an import PS2 and FFXI Copy.
All of them who i know and said goodbye today, where also running on Dial up. One of them said she left her PC running for 5 days, and it barely downloaded all the installer parts from the website.
I doubt i'll see her on FFXI for very long time.
Edit: Plus in an era where you can totally get away with everything on a modern Android phone...

Well least you might get them back once the phone port is done.
Yeah but look at the US, there is still a LARGE portion of the population who don't even have access to anything better than dial up as their internet.
The same applies to areas of rural Japan too.
Having a computer is no longer a commodity, but a necessity in the modern day.
Seriously, in this day and age we're almost to the point of high speed internet access being considered a household utility alongside water and electricity. A computer is basically fully considered to be a necessity in the current era.
Also slight brag, this is my internet atm in rural Vermont with 2 people streaming.

XI is made to run on dial up and low end DSL though. Yeah downloading the game will take a while but why wouldn't someone be able to play it on a ***connection like that? Getting access to a potato with a screen on it to play isn't hard no matter where you live unless you're in a third world country or on an island in the middle of the atlantic ocean. They've been able to afford a sub fee for XI for a decade, they can afford a $150 computer to continue playing if they really care about it.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
