I was under the impression it was pretty early on.

Also, little angry Mega-Typhlosion isn't a thing (yet? ;-;). They just ignore Gen 2 starters. Didn't even get DW abilities released. :<

Right after first gym if I'm correct.

My coworker has been taunting me "I GOT CHARMANDER, I GOT CHARMANDER", she knows I wouldn't play the game if I couldn't play Charmander...

Good thing i have my 31 IV adamant blaziken, because i am disappointed in fennekin line's movepool so far. at 30 and my best stab is ember still.

So on the last book in this series and in the acknowledgements the author thanks the readers for sticking with it and says "Whats three and a half million words between friends?". Something about reading that sent my mind back to the beginning of the series and made me realize just how far things have come and what a journey it has been reading them slowly over the last 3 years. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to seeing how it ends or saddened knowing it is ending...
