Never played 1.0, so can't say.

All I can say now is that the current is very enjoyable and relaxed, and very well done.

Well it depends on which update you mean. It had little to no dungeons, kinda slow and not so much fun combat, had to grind a lot to level, abysmal drop rates for a lot of items

While XI had similar paced combat and a lot of grind it also had way more content and unique areas. 1.0 had copypasted blocks all over the zone.

It was written, nay, copied and pasted upon a stone surface, that 1.0 was copied and pasted, something, something, it sucked. I dunno, only heard things. Coerthas looks cooler now, but I like snowy, dreary-*** places.
