Digital Forensics Prof: "You should always hand-write your notes when going through evidence, you can pull them out to support your methods while investigating in a court room."
Me: "Actually, you should use a program specifically designed for those kind of notes with timestamps and MDA5 hashes on your notes. There have been several documented cases where digital forensics evidence was thrown out in court because the investigator referenced hand written notes which could not be verified as having been written at the time of the investigation."
Digital Forensics Prof: "Well, something strange must have happened in that case."
Me: "SEVERAL cases."
Digital Forensics Prof: "Well yes, some people will recommend using note taking software, but it is not standard practice."
Me: "This is the FBI SOP on digital forensics..."
Digital Forensics Prof: "So, moving onto how you should store your evidence..."
