Aeriths death...was like the biggest shocker of my childhood.
Actually my first jump into FF was due to my siblings. My oldest sister discovered FF7 and I was totally like "wtf would anybody play a game like this..you stand on your side..the monster stands on its side...this is stupid"
I did not get RPGs at all. But I watched her and my brother play it together. They took turns and shared a game and it was a nightly routine that we did. I asked once if I could play and they both told me "no, you'd screw it up"
totally the wrong thing to say as I own every FF that came out after and even before and played them first.
I screwed up FF8 and swore Id never play it again. The first time I played I made it to the end with only 3 summons and couldnt go farther. I restarted but within days my brother caught up using the gameshark and got Eden and I got so pissed off because I didnt have Eden and wasnt using a game shark..so I went to go get her and got stuck in the dungeon and couldnt get out. SWEET. So I quit and my brother beat the game with the gameshark. I wanted to kill him.
FF9 was amazing in everyway. The music, the cardgame, the style. I loved it. Favorite scenes are where Dagger cuts her hair and emo Zidane scene when it plays "you are not alone"
FFX I wanted so bad for Christmas the year it came out but had to get a PS2 first and I didnt have one plus FFX wasnt even being released til like Jan20th. FFFF amazingly our family present that year was a PS2 and my dad managed to get FFX for me early T_T I cried. Best christmas ever. To Zanarkand still gives me chills. Thats a wonderful game. We replayed it recently and the voice acting is actually not nearly as bad as I remember people saying it was (with the exception of the HAHA scene) One of my favorite scenes is where Wakka punches that dude who says he convinced Chappu to sign up with that militia thing. I dont know why that scene sticks with me. <3 Wakka
I could write an entire novel on FF11. It altered my life in the nerdiest of ways. Those first days of exploration is a feeling that is hard to come by.
also Ive had an amazing boss track record where with one person left alive and about to die themselves, I toss something stupid at the boss for the win. I did this in FF9, X and 12 and probably 11 but with 11 all boss fights were such an adrenaline rush that I dont remember wtf I was doing ever.
It didn't happen all that long ago really, but when me and some other people from FFXIAH went exploring the world in FFXIV during Open Beta.. Was almost kind of magical.. Wish FFXIV was still that magical for me <_<

I know exactly what you mean.
I wish I did. I started on close beta... only could log in at certain times huge congestion broke half the time. Enemies were about as hard but you had 1/3 the hp/mp etc etc. Only 1 person I knew was playing on same server. God was annoying
FFXI-wise, I'll always be very fond of the first couple of years playing it. In particular, first discovering the aurora on Qufim Island and just sitting with my best friend watching it. Amaaazed at how beautiful it was (and now looking back at the screenshots, I'm pretty horrified at the quality of graphics I dealt with then LOL).
The opera house scene in FF6, i cried irl, it was so beautiful.
especially cause i had already seen the tour de japon version of it.
Same for me the opera house scene it literally made me cry and I didn't know why than I was only 11, but now I can say it was probably because it was the first time a game transcended being just entertainment and became art .

Although I am sure that moment is responsible for the cracks in my wall (I had volume very high ._.)
When you find Ultros again at the Colloseum *** yeh.
And being attacked by Doom while on the airship, a random boss battle in the sky lol I was like omgwtf is going on!?
So many things, but I think this might be my favorite scene in the series:
I dunno, I think it's awesome how everyone gives the party their strength after Cecil faces Zeromus by himself. Of course, the Final Fantasy main theme playing in the background makes this IMO.
A close second:
This one should be self-explanatory if you've ever played this game.
And if you count Chrono Trigger as a Final Fantasy game (which I do), then the list goes on and on...
Vidina is going to get picked on by other nonalbhed children for having the name Vidina.
I think Wakka/Lulu is so adorable but my biggest petpeeve with that game was the fact that lulu had no design change. Pregnant belly where? I mean really, she's in a corset D:
Being scared shitless to accidentally bump the submarine into the Uber-weapon on ff7. . . I was like 7 years old. Scaredy-cat. Oh and the underwater plane, the monsters in there scared me too. Funny how these days I play dead space 2 and I dont even jump anymore.

That was really fun, I was thinking if they add a new expansion we should do it again.
I remember when I had first played Final Fantasy X, the first FF I played first hand, it was a way more romantic story than I had ever watched, seen, read, or experienced. Oddly enough, for an 11 year old, that's what stuck out most for me. I cried at the end, that little stunt that Tidus pulled with Yuna before his last high-five.
And not just that either, all those magical moments. <3 (Except the Macalania lake CG scene, kinda cheesy <.<) After the Bevelle bride battle with Seymore Natus, when they're all camped out. That quiet surreality encased in crystal, beautiful.

I'm down.. Although unless the expansion is free or they've added considerable content and give me a reason to pick up playing again I won't be getting any new expansions =/

FFIX referenced that at the end when you get killed by Kuja's Ultima and the rest of the party sacrifices itself for your chosen 4.
Some of the things said are really touching, I did it a few times with different combos
Steiner gives his lifeforce to Garnet: "My Princess... Be strong"
Rescuing Rinoa from the sorceress memorial was a pretty memorable scene for me in FF8, even if fairly short.

Chrono Trigger was friggin epic. I'd love to know some from non-FF as well though. I'm sure there's tons that I've just forgotten over the years (I suppose that doesn't make them so memorable...)
Waking up on the Junon boat to find all the crew dead and a trail of blood leading to the first encounter with Jenova... that chilling music... /shudders.
FFVII as a whole. I remember spending hours upon hours sitting in front of my TV playing it nonstop.
I clocked up 18 hours in ff7, running around the save crystal in mako reactor No.1 just before the guard scorpion. Getting finishing touch and satellite beam and getting level 28.
More patience than i knew what to do with back then.
Having played through FF7, I already knew how it was going to end, however, you get this feeling of "I'M GONNA CHANGE THE COURSE OF THE GAME AND KILL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU SOLDIERS AND SURVIVE!". And the ending after is a little bit ; ;
FF7 - Reentering the church in the slums after disc2, and seeing Aeris'* ghost. Then, when I re-entered, I'd see a single frame flicker of her ghost as the area loaded up, and thought I could do something about it, or have some hope of communicating with her, despite it pretty much being a glitch. (I was 10 at the time >.<)
*Blame poor localisation, I'll always call her Aeris instead of Aerith
With every installment, I thoroughly enjoy the enhanced graphics/FMVs. I thought Luca's theater feature in FFX, where you can watch FMVs and listen to tracks, was nice. I spent a lot of my time there. Having said that, I thought FF13 was one never-ending visual orgasm for me >.>
FF11 - The cutscenes around the wotg mission: Purple, the new black. It's when I really got into wotg

This so much. I was enthralled with IV's storyline, and this has to be my favorite FF moment. Though, I think the dialogue was different on SNES(I don't remember Palom saying "Bro").
I was actually 19 when FF8 came out and that was the first Final Fantasy I played so I dunno if it counts as childhood memories. When I first played FF7 I remember the scene in the Shinra building where they find all the blood and bodies from where Sephiroth escaped. That bit really made me scared of Sephiroth. Then when I got to this bit I had major chills.
So do any of you have any magical moments from your time playing Final Fantasy that stick in your mind like a happy childhood memory?
I thought of this when somebody brought up FF9 and the first thing that sprang to mind was the cutscene around the campfire outside the petrified forest. The isolated sound of the campfire gently crackling is a moment I remember fondly, so peaceful!
