I personally enjoyed FINAL FANTASY XIII quite a bit, and while it wasn't without it's flaws I'm happy to see they're making a direct sequel. Here's hoping it turns out well.
how was XIII on the PS3 compared to the 360? I initially bought it for the 360, but I'm considering picking it up for the PS3 and having another bash on it.
It's the same game, the only reason you should buy the PS3 version is if you're obsessive compulsive about version superiority like myself. [idort master race myself]
The PS3 version runs at 1280x720 with 2xFSAA while the 360 version runs at 1024x576 with 2xFSAA. The PS3 version has very high quality lossless encoded video for it's cut scenes while the 360 version has somewhat lower quality video encoding for it's cut scenes to allow them to fit on the 2 DVD-DL discs. Lastly, this won't bother you unless you're an audiophile but the audio including music and voices on the PS3 version use a significantly higher bit-rate while the 360 version has much smaller compressed files.
The PS3 version weighs in at 41 GB on 1 BD with the 360 version at 22 GB in size on 2 DVD-DL.
The only real pro the 360 version manages to have is that perhaps because of the lower resolution it seems to have the more stable frame rate of the two versions with the PS3 version having more occasional fps dips.
At the end of the day they're both the same game with minor differences in quality
Wait, wasn't the 360 version of XIII on three DVD-DLs? I remember getting to Gran Pulse on disc three and slowly stopped playing due to the mark hunting. >.>;
since Auron and Waka there hasn't been a single FFXI character I can identify with. Part of playing RPGs and MMOs is having some sort of experience that can be relevant to you. Its why mithras are either played by sex deprived teenagers or closete homo-sexuals or full on ***. Ask Richardd about our ***-FFXI Experience. nuff said.
nothing against mithra players, but come on.. "Fantasy" was/is a large part of why people play/played/started playing in the first place.
An RPG after all is more or less a modern take on story telling.
You're not going to actively seek out to be an audience member of something you cannot relate to. I don't watch sex in the city, or Ally Mcbeal, or Ugly betty. The most I could stomach was friends, and that's only because I needed something to distract all my girlfriends at the time while I played my RPGs. Give me Boston Legal or the Wire and I turn into a couch potato.
I didnt grow up reading Sleeping Beauty or watching my little pony. My sister did, and consequently she loves FFX-2 and FFXIII, but before these titles she never touched an FF game. She tried FFXI and hated it because the galkas were too "Obese" it bothered her...
I grew up watching G.I Joe, Voltron, Transformers and Robotech and played FF games. I bought every single FF game at least twice, and people like me are probably the reason PS1 won the platform/console wars; because we were loyalists and bought their products based faith, faith that was developed from positive experiences with their titles in the past. FFXIII and every previouse title that forced me to grow a pair of titts and a replace my penis with a vagina to play has replaced my loyalty with utter disgust.
Even the male characters since Auron have all been at the very least metro.
I managed to detach myself from my male ego for long enough to complete XIII's main storyline (still got a few marks to hunt) and actually thought it was pretty good. I know one of the complaints people had about it was that it was linear pretty much all the way through but that suited me tbh, I used to play it on a very casual basis so it was convenient to be able to be able to pick it up and just play it without having to remember where I was up to and where I was going to next.
One of my bugbears from previous FF games was that I'd not play it for a couple of weeks and then having forgotten where I was up to, spend hours wandering around aimlessly trying to find out what I was supposed to be doing next until I randomly found my next destination. I know why the guides are so popular now...so linear works for me.
Also, I hope they make a bit more of an effort with the sequel storyline for XIII-2 because if it ends up as lame as X-2 did I'll be trading it in.
Almost all FFs since 7 (havnt played any before) are pritty linear they just make it look less so then it is. Yes you can go back for stuff but untill before the final zone there is either nothing or its minor. FF X is a good example there are a few things on the side as you go but there will be no major sidequesting going on till after you have the airship. The only time before that i can think of any break in the rails is the crystal forest where you can go left or right but both end up in the same place. Honestly it amazes me now thinking through that game at just how much of a straight run through the areas of that game was.
SE: "ok what we've done is *** up FF14 so what we'll do is make a sequel to 13 because it had some kind of success."
Pritty much... If you look on the FF14 site they have rearraged there staff alot on it... i never knew who any of the people were on it to begin with but I bet lots of them are new
this was a reason why I loved FFX-2 too :( , the game was really under-rated , people put high expectations , it was nothing near FFX quality , but the story was solid , & gameplay was so fun !
Hope FFXIII-2 will have good music , & revolutionary battle system .

>Square Enix has officially announced the North American and European versions of Final Fantasy XIII-2, set to launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next winter.
>According to the press release, the game boasts a brand-new story and an evolved battle system, which promise to make it stand out “against the standard for high-quality content established by the previous title.” It’s being directed by Motomu Toriyama, who directed the first game.
In all honesty I think SE just realized the overall story line content aside from spamming marks at the end of XIII was short in the same way that X was. They know fans have some questions as well as fans would enjoy playing those characters again. I just hope they present it in less of a "Let's go save my boyfran!" way than last time.
Edit: Last time being a reference to FFX-2...aka last time they tried a direct sequel.

Rant over.
99% i agree with (besides the t.v parts since I'm English *** G.I.JOE!) but i liked x-2 because i liked Tactic's which in turn made me want to know about 11 and so forth becomes a 6 year addiction
but my favorite final fantasy character is still Vincent Valentine followed by Aaron then Cid from VII
mainly for the reason every cool char is some hip hop fan-star or a teenage gay idol (nothing against the gay community i just like my hero's more kick *** then fashionable)
in all honesty I'll buy the next game because i am a hardcore Square fan and I'll buy all there junk if i have the cash to, I'm looking forward to Versus the main character in that looks pretty freaking awesome might knock Vincent off the top slot only took 14 years :/

For the most part XIII had extremely solid music. As a whole it was probably my favorite sound track with the Sunleth Waterscape being one of the best FF songs I've heard. Music is typically the one thing that SE always follows through on.
Well, haters aside, I'm excited. I liked X-2, so this is welcome in my collection.
I wish I had been able to look past the flaws of X-2 when I was younger because I feel I would have thoroughly enjoyed it and it's on my list of things to do right up there with beating FFX again.
I haven't even played X-2 and FFXIII i thought was a good game at best, but poor compared to other FF.
Having said this, im excited about XIII-2 because it has potential, what if they are making the bad things about XIII good? What if hope no longer exists? What if Vanille died in a fire?
That new 7 min versus trailer is making me overly excited for it though, i like the fact they have gone for a more real world approach.
I found 13 a great game, people who complain about battle, Inc a good friend of mine didn't optimise themself instead jst used the same set up. and jst spam'd attack!! Thow I guess it kinda fault for letting game beable to be played like that in the first place.
Only Real faults for me was the underwhelming Size the Area's and Lack of Area's there was, and Amount of Side quests.
I never used the Auto Attack unless it was COM since all I needed to do was Attack. The Auto on RAV was bad since it would mix up physical magic moves and regular magic, slowing down the attack phase animation, lowering DPS.
I haven't finished FFXIII yet so I didn't watch the trailer, but I'm kinda excited about a sequel. The game definitely has flaws, but overall, I'm fairly impressed with it.
I wish the game wasn't so linear, but if you actually explore options in battle with paradigms, the fights can be quick and enjoyable.
I suppose more enjoyment of this game stems primarily from avoiding all media attention and press releases about it, before and after the game was released. Since the game was in development for so long, the hype was astronomically and so of course there was massive disappointment. I feel like they could've done more with the time they had for development, but they were more obsessed with getting the look of the game to be its best than working on other aspects. (Of course, the game looks fantastic). Since I didn't pay attention to any of that stuff, my expectations were mostly low.
Hopefully, since they have the graphics down pat, the developers will work on creating a larger world we can explore.

Part way through development they had to basicly restart after SEs head guy decided it would be dual platform releace (I remember there was an interview afterwords where the head programer made some almost *cough* insert insult here *cough* style comments about the decision. If you take a look at the original trailers (I think there is 3 or 4) then the ones after it went dual platform there is a major difference in the battle system as well as several sceenes that never actually happen. Lightning walking alone through the forest that vanielle and sazh go through is one example. The first gameplay showing as well in the first trailer showed an AP system in the double digets as well as lightning haveing many different attacks (V-strike is one i remember seeing)... This gameplay sequence was then converted into a CS.
I'm not banging on X-box or anything here but this is why it seems like they would have done more given the development time.
After years of build-up and waiting, Final Fantasy XIII was released to so-so reviews. The game was a disappointment. But, if at first you don't succeed, try again.
Regardless of fan bickering or indifference, the game was a monster hit for Square Enix, moving over six million copies.
The game's developer, Square Enix, is working on Final Fantasy XIII-2, a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII.
The number of Final Fantasy games can be confusing for non-fans. Each of the games do not follow sequential order, so when Square Enix wants to do a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, the game does not end up being Final Fantasy XIV (which is a totally different, already released game), but Final Fantasy XIII-2.
There is a precedent for this as Square Enix released a sequel to Final Fantasy X in 2003 called Final Fantasy X-2. The sequel followed the exploits of Final Fantasy X heroine Yuna, and Final Fantasy XIII is expected to do the same.
Square Enix has only unveiled the game's logo, which showed Final Fantasy XIII heroine Lightning as well as a new, unnamed character. It is thought that this character is Lightning's rival.
Unlike Final Fantasy XIII, which caused controversy by originally only being slated for the PS3, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is penciled in for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, right off the bat. The game won't have the wait that Final Fantasy XIII did. According to Square Enix, it will be released in 2011.
So... yeah... Wasn't a huge fan of XIII maybe they'll do this better? lol.
