After years of build-up and waiting, Final Fantasy XIII was released to so-so reviews. The game was a disappointment. But, if at first you don't succeed, try again.
Regardless of fan bickering or indifference, the game was a monster hit for Square Enix, moving over six million copies.
The game's developer, Square Enix, is working on Final Fantasy XIII-2, a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII.
The number of Final Fantasy games can be confusing for non-fans. Each of the games do not follow sequential order, so when Square Enix wants to do a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, the game does not end up being Final Fantasy XIV (which is a totally different, already released game), but Final Fantasy XIII-2.
There is a precedent for this as Square Enix released a sequel to Final Fantasy X in 2003 called Final Fantasy X-2. The sequel followed the exploits of Final Fantasy X heroine Yuna, and Final Fantasy XIII is expected to do the same.
Square Enix has only unveiled the game's logo, which showed Final Fantasy XIII heroine Lightning as well as a new, unnamed character. It is thought that this character is Lightning's rival.
Unlike Final Fantasy XIII, which caused controversy by originally only being slated for the PS3, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is penciled in for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, right off the bat. The game won't have the wait that Final Fantasy XIII did. According to Square Enix, it will be released in 2011.
So... yeah... Wasn't a huge fan of XIII maybe they'll do this better? lol.
Imo the first game was perfect , yes the story wasn't as complicated & deep as FFX , but gameplay wise ; cutscenes ; graphics & battle system was superb .
I don't care how linear it was , the story was good enough to justify it , looking forward this sequel.
X was good. X-2 was ***. XIII was so-so. XIII-2 will be even worse. Who the *** is in charge over there???
Honestly X-2 had a pritty solid battle system just alot of the features needed a bit more work it was possible for characters to end up in a back attack posistion part way through a fight just would be kinda random... Being able to order them to move posistions would have made it better since abilitys actually had range rather then single target or full party target. The class swaping could have been pritty epic too it's just there wasn't too much point to doing it... set up healer and 2 hitters with one with blm swap possible and that was all you really needed...
To be perfectly honest the only time I enjoyed X itself was before i noticed that that bar on the side of the screen tells you the turn order... kinda killed all level of difficulty in it for me.
Guys let's not turn this into a your an idiot because my FF is better than your FF thread. There are enough of those and I've wasted enough of my existence trying to convince you. But yeh FFX-2 was a disaster I am really quite surprised SE did not learn their lesson. I just hope they do a better job this time, but hey they have a better starting point this time so who knows!
Hmm I'm pretty sure that if you didn't think the story of 13 was deep you didn't understand it properly.

Giving your opinion automatically makes it happen.
I personally enjoyed FINAL FANTASY XIII quite a bit, and while it wasn't without it's flaws I'm happy to see they're making a direct sequel. Here's hoping it turns out well.

how was XIII on the PS3 compared to the 360? I initially bought it for the 360, but I'm considering picking it up for the PS3 and having another bash on it.

Jürgen Goeldner - COO of SE Europe.
SE is not the same company that gave us any of the titles we recognize with Square Soft.
SE is a complete different animal, made up of European companies/ Chinese Companies / American Companies.
I've seen this guy talk. His business direction is all about 11-25 year old "teeny-bopping trendy cosmopolitan" female segment of the market.
Every slide in his presentation showed girls of all ages playing SE material, with Cloud and Sephiroth T-shirts surrounded by purple hearts.
Blizzard owns the male market, WoW is at something like 86% Male subscribers. SE and everyone else is trying to find a way to reach new markets cuz frankly, Blizzard isn't going to ever loose its current grip on the market it CREATED and Fostered.

It's the same game, the only reason you should buy the PS3 version is if you're obsessive compulsive about version superiority like myself. [idort master race myself]
The PS3 version runs at 1280x720 with 2xFSAA while the 360 version runs at 1024x576 with 2xFSAA. The PS3 version has very high quality lossless encoded video for it's cut scenes while the 360 version has somewhat lower quality video encoding for it's cut scenes to allow them to fit on the 2 DVD-DL discs. Lastly, this won't bother you unless you're an audiophile but the audio including music and voices on the PS3 version use a significantly higher bit-rate while the 360 version has much smaller compressed files.
The PS3 version weighs in at 41 GB on 1 BD with the 360 version at 22 GB in size on 2 DVD-DL.
The only real pro the 360 version manages to have is that perhaps because of the lower resolution it seems to have the more stable frame rate of the two versions with the PS3 version having more occasional fps dips.
At the end of the day they're both the same game with minor differences in quality

And suddenly, FFX-2 makes perfect sense.
Also, that logo doesn't inpsire much hope for this game in me. All I can think of is a story revolving around Lightning vs. an evil twin / 'dark' anti-hero type character.

Also Idort master race here... I'm thinking of picking it up mainly for the musical enhancements and It's always nice to have version superiority. Thanks :D
Sound like pure fail! .... In my opinion this is SE saying "we need to release something to patch the final fantasy name and make up for the moola we lost on ff14" (which i haven't heard of any upcoming updates... nothing)
It might've been better if they hadn't revealed upfront that Jecht is Sin. :|
I disagree - that was important because it puts you in the same position as Tidus: throughout the game, coming to terms with the fact that Sin is his father and gradually discovering why. The scene after Operation Mi'ihen would've been nowhere near as dramatic without knowing that (when Sin retreats after slaughtering everybody and Tidus swims after him) - that scene is great.
