do you really want to compare ffx-2 to ffxiii's fighting mechanics? if you do not like the mechanics then maybe you played on "auto" setting. Seriously it is that awesome.
And i am not talking about ffxiii-2 didnt play the demo yet.
But Azryel's rant was about FFXIII being crap first.
The game took too long to take off and let the battle-mechanics really shine but it's an absolute awesome system. And if you can not understand what i mean then i don't honestly care anymore.
...What? The fact I think another FF has a better combat system means I hated XIII? Does that even make sense?
Sorry i think i got your answer wrong then. At least in the wrong context.
lulz XIII's combat system was far from the best. Both X and X-2 were better. The fact that you auto-lossed when the leader died was enough to crash XIII's rank down several places.
X battle system had one big fault for me, needing to switch everyone in and defend a turn so that everyone got exp was so tedious.
Isnt that how all ff games are? but at least made it simple to change your characters midbattle (kinda made game too easy). unlike others where u had to do it on map/save. also it made you have to play as different people. which is what i would assume the developers would want.
just picked this up at midnight, played it for ~2hrs and honestly...
i didn't want to stop playing >.>; i never got that from 13 LOL
i am very pleased with the improvements of this game. and the storyline and music are amazing so far. too early to tell, but so far it was 60$ well spent.
(inb4 i regret saying this as i end up purchasing some 5$ DLC later -.-;)
Honestly, why do people hate XIII so much? Watched my g/f play most of it and I don't really see whats so bad about it. Failing because the party leader died is the only complaint i have really.

i didn't hate 13, it just wasn't that great lol. it got really boring in places where it shouldn't have. infact i thought the game was meh until your 80% thru the games storyline and get to gran pulse..

Linearity and unmemorable characters aside, I think a good chunk of it has to be excessive attention to detail on a superficial level in combination with voice acting.
Now as contrary as that may sound, Final Fantasy has always been a steadfast franchise in displaying a relatively epic world with captivating storyline and a memorable cast therein.
However, as a fan of the franchise for 18 years or so, I cannot help but notice a wane in overall quality and form of presentation in recent releases. And part of it I feel is the increasing standards of visually appealing and action-esque involvement, even in the RPG genre, which has subsequently led to hybrid genres therein such as Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Dragon Age Origins, etc. Though strictly from a business perspective, it would be unwise for Square-Enix to "stay true to their roots" and recycle ancient RPG elements with new number stamped on the title each time. It only makes sense they widen their demograph and target audiences with radically dynamic gameplay elements and a vastly different approach to how a story is told and carried out by the player.
For those of us that have grown up with Final Fantasy, we often see this new found style to be alienating as we have had been relatively content with the arts of old, and leaving something to our own imagination rather than having an actor and glossy realistic graphics speak on behalf of the game.
I for one miss reading my story, reading the thoughts and words of each character rather than looking at angsty stares and listening to melodramatic dialog. I miss the hands-on, jump in, easy to learn basis for gameplay. I miss having an open world to bring a sense of awe and desire for exploration rather than directly running in a straight line throughout a majority of the game.
In the end it's the little things that pile on and piss us off, thus expressing our dissatisfaction with FFXIII, and primarily the direction Square-Enix is going. No longer have they been able to stop me in my tracks and captivate me with a song, a character, a story or even a world, that leaves me in silent awe and respect for the creative process that goes into these games. R.I.P. Squaresoft.
Disclaimer: I mean no disrespect for those that genuinely appreciate and enjoy Final Fantasy XIII, it's sequel and/or the direction SE has taken their franchise. I simply have a great deal of love and respect for the games of old, and wished they paved the road for future titles rather than an unwarranted need for something "new".
Well I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with me but since the release of playstation I thought the best game they came out with was 12. I can replay that game 1 ot 2 times a year and have a great time. 13 had no creativity and very little end game content. Yay I can farm turtle for platinum ingots to get relics woohoo. I don't know why but I will still buy 13-2 so I guess I'm feeding the beast.
I will be boycotting SE until they can make something that doesn't suck.
I concur with this sentiment whole-heartedly.
A friend of mine told me that he read an article in Game Informer that said that FFXIII-2 ends with a "to be continued..." FFXIII-3?? Say it ain't so... I'm not even angry anymore, I'm disappointed.
All good things must come to an end, I suppose... Even the Final Fantasy franchise.
way to ruin the ending and even if it does there is a thing called DLC they can totally add more if they feel like it. Also i like how everyone says 13 was bad i honestly think solo FFXI errr FFXII and XIV are the worst FF but that's just my opinion if you dislike 13 so much dont post in a FFXIII/-2 thread.

My apologies- that was only my 13th post ever, and I wasn't aware of the etiquette... I am aware now, and being that nothing specific was divulged, I certainly hope I didn't ruin anyone's day.
FFFF Can anyone help me out with this Temporal Rift maze? It's the Bresha Ruins 300AF. I can not, for the life of me, figure out a correct path on the third room.
nvm I got it. @@ Anyone know where the second password is at? lol

That's not really etiquette for this site, it's just general forum etiquette. <.<
1) Battle System: Awesome. Haters auto-battled and got 0 stars on every battle that was challenging.
2) Characters: Contrary to popular belief. The characters developed quite a bit...this is exemplified mostly by hope/snow relations during chapters 8 through 11.
3) Story: Overall good. Had to stray away from the traditional RPG format in order to better fit the story (L'cie cant just play cards with people in town, seriously). Unfortunately, 3/4s of the game is rediculously linear, which is a necessary evil to the story.
Do I like FFXIII?: Darn right! I love it.
Some people dont like it, others do. However, seeing both sides of the arguement, the pros outweight the cons, IMO. this is personal opinion, but I feel many of the complaints about FF13 are horridly shallow...and i ask of many friends [and strangers] to immerse themselves more into the game.
A good representation of FF13 is this statement: Great game, not a Savior.
FFXIII Rating by Keyera: 9 (means nothing, but i decided to go for it =D)

As a game i'd prob agree, as a FF game i give it alot lower, 7.5-8 just beacuse they took the exploring out of it. Alot say the grapics but they should be a given with the systems we have now.
So far XIII-2 is better, just using 2 char is the biggest downfall atm but im only 8hrs in.

After years of build-up and waiting, Final Fantasy XIII was released to so-so reviews. The game was a disappointment. But, if at first you don't succeed, try again.
Regardless of fan bickering or indifference, the game was a monster hit for Square Enix, moving over six million copies.
The game's developer, Square Enix, is working on Final Fantasy XIII-2, a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII.
The number of Final Fantasy games can be confusing for non-fans. Each of the games do not follow sequential order, so when Square Enix wants to do a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, the game does not end up being Final Fantasy XIV (which is a totally different, already released game), but Final Fantasy XIII-2.
There is a precedent for this as Square Enix released a sequel to Final Fantasy X in 2003 called Final Fantasy X-2. The sequel followed the exploits of Final Fantasy X heroine Yuna, and Final Fantasy XIII is expected to do the same.
Square Enix has only unveiled the game's logo, which showed Final Fantasy XIII heroine Lightning as well as a new, unnamed character. It is thought that this character is Lightning's rival.
Unlike Final Fantasy XIII, which caused controversy by originally only being slated for the PS3, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is penciled in for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, right off the bat. The game won't have the wait that Final Fantasy XIII did. According to Square Enix, it will be released in 2011.
So... yeah... Wasn't a huge fan of XIII maybe they'll do this better? lol.
