Cardinalgate, that seems about right. The main things hurting you are your (northwood?) Pentium D CPU and the fact that the 8600 series is now considered "Low-End" on the videocard market. You can easily upgrade that computer to play FFXIV fairly decently though for fairly cheap, assuming it's a 775 motherboard with a PCI-e slot.

Look to the core 2 duo series for the CPU and a 5770 (or higher) ATI card.

I really can't make an nvidia recommendation at this time... The 460(?) Fermi, the lowest end one, gets royally trounced by pretty much everything... and the older series Nvidia cards don't support DX11.

When i open it, it comes up with the race thing. Then i click start and the other window comes up. At that point, it instantly pops up the stopped responding error and closes. Ive already tried administrator and updating drivers, anyone know whats up?

I've had the same issue. I'm running a Radeon 58XX, but I can see it's worked for other people. Hmm...

Gonna guess that it's my shitty processor.

Odd lol, I got about your same specs and I got 3125 on low and 2985 on high, there's obviously something wrong with this

Even more confusing since my index is somewhat close to his, the only stark differences are the RAM which again I can modify, and the processor speed, which is a problem on my end.
I can understand its hard to compare using the index but even then...such a difference in score is a little frustrating.

My own again:

Alot of the varying scores are a bit ... befuddling. Possibly anti-virus software? Not really sure, but there does seem to be something that is giving artificially low scores for some setups.

At work, cant't make certain, but I'm using an AMD 64 X2 4400 and Radeon HD 4800 series, 2GB of RAM and got slightly less than he did. Also running XP SP3. Not familiar with how nVidia cards match up to Radeon, so I can't comment there.

Curious how your build differs though 8D

Just reailzed something. Particularly with new iCore setups Intel boasts the whole "Turbo Boost" deal with their new processors. For example my processors default is 1.6, but it can go as high as 2.67 if an application/process calls for more power. Just wondering if it could be affecting scores.

Good thinking... I'm at work, but can anyone run task manager while running the benchie and see how many cores it is loading? That would give us a quick idea of whether or not Turbo Boost is kicking in.

*Think that will work for the new T1000 series from AMD as well...

Edit: would also let us see how multi threaded FFXIV is...

Nobody wants to run task manager? ; ;

In case someone doesn't know how, right click on an empty space on the taskbar (that's the thing at the bottom of your desktop with little icons on it and a clock) and select "Start Task Manager". Then select the "Performance" tab. Then post screenshots so I can pretend I know what I'm talking about! :O

I'm curious here since no one else has tossed out the numbers. How much RAM?

I'm seeing a disparity between dual and quad core systems... that leads me to believe that FFXIV (at least the benchmark) is utilizing more than 2 cores.

/foams at the mouth!

I don't get it Barti!!!

It has to be either something running in the background... or something simple that we're missing.

EDIT!: Dual cores might be kicking your *** if they are running at 3.2Ghz while you're running at 1.6Ghz... or if your videocard is total pants. :|

I'd compare it to crysis benchmark on very high settings with full filtering and antialiasing. You'd need a supercomputer to get 8k . Talking $1k invested.

lol I just ran test on both low and high on my 10 year old computer results were.
Low Setting 2666 load time=14695 with fps=45-65
High setting 1560 load time=14097 with fps25-35 was laggy during the battle.

windows xp home 5.1 build 2600 SP3
intel core 2 6600 @ 2.40 ghz (2 cpu)
nvidia 8800 gt
Nvidia 8800 GT is not an extremely old card, if you bought it right when it came out it was ~$350, You're on windows XP limited to DX 9.0C so you wouldn't have the enhanced texture resolutions, and the core 2 isn't too old either. Decent score, but try it on a DX10 OS and see what you get.

Well i had to replace my video card i orginally had a GeForce 7950 GX2 that went bad and they sent me the 8800gt.I want to buy a top of the line computer but i dont have 8k to spend.
