I scored a 3870 on low settings. Not too bad but i didn't break 4000 like i wanted :(
Playing in a window on low res, I got a score of roughly 2100. 2100 is still 35 FPS and anything higher than 30, what does it matter? It's barely perceptible.

Common misconception used to justify shitty hardware.
It's not a "misconception" if it just happened on my screen right in front of me and I couldn't tell a difference.

For people who are used to playing games at 60fps or higher, there is a notable difference. Buy yourself a 120hz lcd monitor and tell me you wont see a difference compared to the standard 30/60 ones.

Ugh FF14 is made for GFX whoring so yeah its a big diff dude
Big

BIG

BIGGGGGGGGGGG

Aren't Core2 Extreme's better than i7's for gaming? The L2 Cache's, at least on the last generation were markedly superior than the i7's, with usually the same or slightly less clock-speed.

Edit: Nvm, that i7 Extreme is pro as ***.

i don't care what is in that computer, if you're spending 8 thousand dollars, you're wasting your money.

edit: unless you're rich and can have the best of the best of the best of the best.

I agree, I never buy latest-gen tech on PC's, with the exception of the Motherboard, which will facilitate future upgrades as needed. You can probably get 95% of the power for 35% of the price.

2500 will get you something that can run pretty much any game to date on Max, with maybe 1 exception being Crysis, but not even the 8K PC can run it at max (A 450,000$ NASA Supercomputer couldn't) so yah.

The good thing is, most of the high performance parts on a PC are very easy to upgrade, Memory and graphics require only slightly more skill than inserting a Super Nintendo Cartridge.

i could put one together for 500 bucks tops + monitor. and how much you want to spend on a monitor/tv is its own independent choice imo really.

edit: for example, i just put together a PC for my friend for 350ish dollars. it will run FF14, but he doesn't have vista/windows 7. he *wanted* XP, so i put tinyXP on his computer for him.

In today's market.

Probably about 1200 Built (If you want it built, I recommend Ibuypower)

Probably as little as 700 if you make it yourself. I would say less, but it seems very graphics-dependent, so to push it to Medium and very playable, you'd need a decent 512 (Or preferably 1GB+) card. Cards generally don't drop as much, as quickly as the rest of PC components, but I haven't been watching the market.

@zicdeh, we're guestimating about the same. i really bargain shop and use ebay/craigslist/friends etc to push the final dollar amount down to as low as possible. but like my spending 400 dollars might be the same as another spending 700 dollars.

Yah, I was giving Worst Case retail prices. Some (most actually) would rather deal with higher prices than the time it takes to hunt for a reputable bargain.

It's the same reason why some people like to have their PC's custom built, they really aren't "Stupid" they just don't feel the hassle is worth the savings.

People who buy "Name brand" (Sony, Hp, Dell) have no excuse, that's just dumb, especially with all the shovelware they put on it...

Man, even Dell's drivers are akin to Viruses. It took me seriously 3hours just to successfully remove the video drivers on my friends Inspiron notebook. Couldn't run like any games, and couldn't even update the Dell driver because of the faulty shovelware that's suppose to make it easy.

Once I actually got the bad drivers completely removed, all his problems were fixed in 8mins after I got some new ones from OmegaDrivers.

I want to kill Dell with fire.

Probably the best video so far that really shows just how much of a visual orgasm we're in store for with FFXIV. Worth an upgrade to be sure. Or hopefully there's a good PS3 FFXIV bundle for those who are so far down the tech tree upgrading to something isn't reasonable.

I just figured that since there have been a few complaints that this benchmark has issues, I would like to state that unless you are rocking a quad-core with a decent ($400+) graphics card, this game is not going to play well on your system. That being said, yes, this game is far beyond what people are used to by playing FFXI. I, myself, will be making a near $1000+ overhaul of my system to a :

CPU: Phenom II x6 overclocked CPU
Motherboard: Asus with DDR3 memory slots
RAM: 8 Gigs of DDR3 1633MHz
Power Supply: 750 Watt
Graphics: Radeon HD 5970

Just an fyi if it hasn't been posted...the graphics card and the RAM is what matters most and the CPU comes 2nd or 3rd, however you want to look at it.

I'm going off of how it looks. It doesn't look to be much more detailed than MW2 (lame comparison but still) and I run it just fine.

Just so I can clarify my motherboard / CPU setup :

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2 GHz

Mobo: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890GXSB850 USB 3.0 ATX

Includes automatic overclocker, TurboCore, and core unlocker.

The CPU is in competition with Intel's Core i7 and AMD's CPU is cheaper.
