The ability to server transfer is a thing and has been a thing forever at this point. People who play on smaller servers do so by their own volition. Similarly how people on Asura do so by their own volition.

It's a waste of resources to even run servers that small. Isn't that basically nothing now? It all runs on one small server hardware right? It all runs on a virtual server now. From my understanding, the game no longer even has server hardware dedicated specifically to it.

If they dropped down to 8 servers (I think even 6 would be feasible, but let's not) then other servers than Asura would have populations which make the game playable on them. The solution is so easy.

Asura was so nice with the amount of people playing there(zone can have more players than some entire server), but also so painful for the wait for instance (5-10-15 minutes wait… even saw 30 min for the first vanabout disaster…). I can see why they have problems because of the amount of people and its data. SE should provide free public transportation out of Asura, so entire groups can go to others servers and “rebalance”.

12 is excessive too. All the low pop servers can't break 600 people online, they could merge it into maybe 6 servers and move the low into the mid-pop servers like Shiva. 12 is excessive too. Kind of hilarious that they're locking the server rather than just adjusting Vana'bout's shitty nonsensical design, which is the only reason there's congestion in the first place.
Exactly. the whole "You must take 75k damage" of VDB - per individual!! What idiot made that up? Why not make it shared by the party, so at least you get it even if you are support job and it still encourages part play.
But nooo... each person, take it on the chin. So everyone is going in solo with trusts and waiting the full 30 mins to get slapped and heal through it.
SE: "But why are there so many Ambuscade queues?!"

I don't think we need a low pop server merger. We made a choice to be here so it's not like we wouldn't have jumped to Asura already if we thought the grass would be purpleer. Forced name change was annoying in 2010. Do not want.
What they should have done here was offer a free transfer to players on Asura to lower population servers. If they at least made an attempt to let players correct the issue themselves, they'd have better footing to come in with the locks and chains if necessary.
Other games have already done this right. Only allow transfers TO low/med pop and AWAY from high pop. Players are still free to create new characters on high pop servers, but they accept the possibility of congestion.

Shot in the dark, but FFXI polls directinput for both a queue of recent actions *and* a current controller state. I haven't traced which is used for each action, but I'd bet:
Your controller stick *actions* are bogging down the queue (ffxi only polls 16 per frame and dualsense can send more than that)
FFXI is reading the state for joystick direction for motion
FFXI is reading the queue for button presses, so it has to catch up to actuate them
Potential solutions would be to use DS4Windows or something else to map to xinput or raise/uncap framerate
may also be fixed on Ashita4(my controller hook pulls 64 per frame, discards stick input in dead zone, and gives ffxi 16 so it doesn't bog down as quickly) Just the person I was hoping would reply, thank you! This seems like a logical explenation.
I used DS4Windows when I had a PS4 controller, but stopped when I switched to PS5 controller since windows recognizes it as a controller. I will try setting that up again tonight and see if it makes a difference.
Client lag?
Has the game been running for a long time when this happens? There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when this happens.

I was soloing V1VD for people all last month, and can count the number of times I had to wait in a long line on one hand.
If they're pretending their reasoning is a more general concern for the game's health, then it would be far more prudent to consolidate low pop servers.

- The ability to use the World Transfer Service to transfer characters to Asura will be suspended.
means?!:
No more serverhopping buying/reselling all sellables? Kills a huge part of the ingame economy (+ RMT) i think. Has its pro's and con's... Prices lower for most stuff and things like dyna-weapons will be rare and pricy again.

I think it's time to do another occupy ambuscade and just take the full 30 minutes on 50 characters
This is *** silly, even getting 2 wins to get silver tier takes 5 hours hey we found the person who congested asura

Likely noticeable in stuff like Ambu now that Bout is running, it was always bad on Asura around the clock.

I haven't been doing instanced content at peak hours enough to know, but has congestion gotten bad again in Odyssey/Sortie/Omen/etc? or is their definition of congestion # of characters on the server?

I know we have a lot of multiboxers here. I've been having a strange issue with my controller ever since I change my monitor, which makes zero sense... but that's the only thing that changed.
I use a PS5 controller via bluetooth. My button presses are extremely delayed or ignored completely randomly. The more strange part is my analog sticks and d pad are not affected by this. So I can be running around 100% normal, but the second I try to menu, talk to a npc, open a macro, ect, the button input is either delayed by some random amount between 0-3 seconds or it never registers the input. This seems to be reset by alt-tabing over to another character and pressing a few buttons, then going back to whatever instance I was on and it works fine for a few moments. This seems to affect my alts more than my main char, but maybe that has to do with the order I open my FFXI instances?
Anybody else experience anything like this before? I have absolutely no clue what could be doing this.

I assume the HQ supply on backwater servers will start drying up. Asura is pretty reliably the lowest price for HQs so I bet there is a lot of buying there and hopping elsewhere that is going to stop when it becomes a one way trip. All made with duped items and cheating to avoid breaks anyway

Ya there's a lot of arbitrage going both ways. Raw materials brought to asura to sell for higher prices and the hq crafted items bought cheap to come back. Much of that will move to bahamut presumably. So expect asura and bahamut economies to have biggest adjustments.
