Vsync doesn't cause crashes.

Bad drivers definitely might.

It's nice to get one serving of something, instead of having to buy 10 and letting 6 rot

Like you buy a bundle of green onion, make the one dish and throw away 80% of it. Or a whole bag of garlic when you only need one clove.
Can this be compared/echoed with what it feels like for you to do a single ambuscade instead of 50 at the same time?

and when we stopped, I just kept making the dishes we had liked from it. then refined them and like them even more now.

I think meal services like hellofresh are perfect to get people cooking different food, and expand what you can do in the kitchen. it is like playing a tutorial, and then you are ready for the real adventure when the tutorial is done.
I was going to say something like this, and add that it was actually "fun"

I made Colada +4% finally.

Now I get 13:54 on Haste 2 timer on someone else with Composure up.

Added XI Naturalists Roll from my other char... still shows as 13:54 on timers (but shows as longer on other char at top in game durations).

How do I fix timers?

Yes and no. You can lose your name when you transfer (and in a server merge too). (Incentives are there to move but ...the de-incentivization is there too).

2500 online was optimal. 3000 pushed it. Now 3500 online always on Asura, it is way too much.

Banish people like this to small servers:

Who would win a fight between Afania on FFXIAH or Pantafernando on FFXIAH?

ChatGPT said:
While both Afania and Pantafernando are active FFXIAH forum derailleurs rather than in-game pugilists, here's a fun, light-hearted breakdown of how a “battle” might play out:

? Personality Face-off
Afania: Known for challenging auction house norms—they questioned the PM-only rules, advocating transparency and fairness. Clear-headed, community-focused, and passionate.

Pantafernando: A top-tier troll on FFXIAH—famous for biting sarcasm, playful barks (sometimes literally), and endless thread-stirring. A master of forum chaos.

jp.ffxiah.com

? Strategy & Wit
Afania: Takes logical and level-headed stances—addresses imbalances, likes structure (ex. thread guidelines), and emphasizes fair discourse.

Pantafernando: Prefers humor, exaggeration, and shock value. Often spins threads into witty chaos—making them entertain, confuse, or provoke.

? Hypothetical “Fight” Showdown
Attribute Afania Pantafernando
Tactics Calm logic, structure Chaos, wit, unpredictability
Strength Rational argumentation Forum-level trolling genius
Community Reach Fair policy advocate Wildfire provocateur

? Verdict
It depends on the fight:

In a policy debate or community forum showdown → Afania would likely win through rational argument, presenting structured improvements to the system.

In a chaos-driven trolling match → Pantafernando would dominate with humor, unpredictability, and quick-witted jabs.

So… who would win?
You could say it's a draw, but it hinges on the battlefield:

Boardroom/forum rules → Afania.

Meme war/trolling madness → Pantafernando.

Ultimately, both bring very different strengths—and in a forum skirmish, Pantafernando’s creativity might just steal the spotlight.

It's virtualized, there's no problem running small servers. They cost less per user in all likelihood, because busy zones can cost exponentially more compute.

They also can't spend more on servers to make Asura run better, because some parts of their code are single-threaded. There's no reasonable way to make single threaded code utilize multiple cpu threads besides rewriting it, and there just aren't better single-thread server cpus. Current technology doesn't have a pathway to meaningfully speed up a single thread.

It's the right move for SE to do something about it, because performance and queue times on Asura have been an issue for years. I'm not really sold on this approach. I expect there's going to be a short-term rush to move any RMT farming that isn't currently on Asura to Asura. There's probably also going to be a degree of FOMO from people who have been tourists and bought occasional mercs. So, I think we see a short-term increase in players on Asura from this.

I can't see a whole lot of people willing to give up their social connections to leave Asura, so the question is how many full groups can be convinced to do so. The kind of folks who are willing to give up social connections are probably not the kind who can function outside of Asura. Longer term, if player numbers hold up, I'd imagine Bahamut gets capped and Ragnarok or Phoenix ends up the new merc server. Some concerns about attrition, though. Splitting up Asura only to have the limbus/free trial/weapon bump fall off would be kind of silly.

The ability to server transfer is a thing and has been a thing forever at this point. People who play on smaller servers do so by their own volition. Similarly how people on Asura do so by their own volition.

It all runs on a virtual server now. From my understanding, the game no longer even has server hardware dedicated specifically to it.

Try rewasd over ds4 there may or may not be a free version on github
By K123 on 2025-07-22 08:20:14
If they dropped down to 8 servers (I think even 6 would be feasible, but let's not) then other servers than Asura would have populations which make the game playable on them. The solution is so easy.

Asura was so nice with the amount of people playing there(zone can have more players than some entire server), but also so painful for the wait for instance (5-10-15 minutes wait… even saw 30 min for the first vanabout disaster…). I can see why they have problems because of the amount of people and its data. SE should provide free public transportation out of Asura, so entire groups can go to others servers and “rebalance”.

12 is excessive too. All the low pop servers can't break 600 people online, they could merge it into maybe 6 servers and move the low into the mid-pop servers like Shiva.

Kind of hilarious that they're locking the server rather than just adjusting Vana'bout's shitty nonsensical design, which is the only reason there's congestion in the first place.

Exactly. the whole "You must take 75k damage" of VDB - per individual!! What idiot made that up? Why not make it shared by the party, so at least you get it even if you are support job and it still encourages part play.

But nooo... each person, take it on the chin. So everyone is going in solo with trusts and waiting the full 30 mins to get slapped and heal through it.

SE: "But why are there so many Ambuscade queues?!"
By Seun on 2025-07-22 08:02:36
I don't think we need a low pop server merger. We made a choice to be here so it's not like we wouldn't have jumped to Asura already if we thought the grass would be purpleer. Forced name change was annoying in 2010. Do not want.

What they should have done here was offer a free transfer to players on Asura to lower population servers. If they at least made an attempt to let players correct the issue themselves, they'd have better footing to come in with the locks and chains if necessary.

Other games have already done this right. Only allow transfers TO low/med pop and AWAY from high pop. Players are still free to create new characters on high pop servers, but they accept the possibility of congestion.

Shot in the dark, but FFXI polls directinput for both a queue of recent actions *and* a current controller state. I haven't traced which is used for each action, but I'd bet:

  • Your controller stick *actions* are bogging down the queue (ffxi only polls 16 per frame and dualsense can send more than that)

  • FFXI is reading the state for joystick direction for motion

  • FFXI is reading the queue for button presses, so it has to catch up to actuate them

Potential solutions would be to use DS4Windows or something else to map to xinput or raise/uncap framerate

may also be fixed on Ashita4(my controller hook pulls 64 per frame, discards stick input in dead zone, and gives ffxi 16 so it doesn't bog down as quickly)
Just the person I was hoping would reply, thank you! This seems like a logical explenation.

I used DS4Windows when I had a PS4 controller, but stopped when I switched to PS5 controller since windows recognizes it as a controller. I will try setting that up again tonight and see if it makes a difference.

There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when this happens.

Kind of hilarious that they're locking the server rather than just adjusting Vana'bout's shitty nonsensical design, which is the only reason there's congestion in the first place.

I was soloing V1VD for people all last month, and can count the number of times I had to wait in a long line on one hand.

If they're pretending their reasoning is a more general concern for the game's health, then it would be far more prudent to consolidate low pop servers.
