This part just surprises me. Was there really people in New Games Suck sending PMs to mods saying "so and so said this"? I can't imagine wanting to run and tell the boss somebody said something mean.

Maybe this is the American in me. I disagreed with a ton of things said in that forum, but all I had to do was close the tab and be on my way. I just assumed we're all adults and this is a free public forum.

People you disagree with exist, will continue to exist, and will always be replaced by more people you disagree with. Just go read something else if what you're reading upsets you.

Issue isn't expressing opinions, it's that he expressed his opinion then removed the ability for anyone to contradict him by locking the thread. In this thread, he once again expressed his opinion then implied discussion had to stop.

I don't think there's anything wrong with mods being active and engaged; it's a good thing. I think there's a bit of abuse of power when someone throws in their opinion alongside the use of their authority to prevent further discussion.

My issue isn't with the thread being locked, it's with him stating his views as if they are absolute fact then locking the thread. Similar to how he made a bunch of misrepresentations and soft insults in this thread and said 'enough of this', implying we weren't allowed a rebuttal.

If the topic isn't permitted and needs to be closed/changed, it's just a personal indulgence to throw in his own views immediately before closing it.
Why do you think a forum moderated by humans wouldn't have personal indulgences?

No one's not allowed to express their opinions (except for flagrant repeat rule violating offenders). Hell, you can see me in that same thread be on the other side of the aisle.

Everyone's OK to say what they're thinking. That's the point of a forum.

It's just not supposed to devolve into political or religious discussion as those always come with spice. Lots of reports, lots of PM appeals, and lots of, "Why won't you do something about this bigot?" or "Why are you letting this be said?!?!"

But, again, we're humans. People wanna talk about what they wanna talk about, and they wanna say what they feel. This is why sometimes it just has to be allowed, at least for a little while.

You don't have to agree with what Rooks thinks, but nothing precludes him from also speaking his mind when so many others already did.

I think most often than not, that thread was violent, but not so much P&R.

It was more like a culture war than something explicitly political.

I actually think it at least served as a pigpen to those nerds to kill themselves while we watch it.

So can understand people being offended reporting the thread though. There were so many pages that we can barely see any coherent thread of relevant discussions. Many times I see a single page containing 3 to 4 different topics being discussed in parallel, such was the mess in that thread.

So yeah, I think that thread had a reason of burning those filthy hormones those nerds were holding.

Clearly what matters is idiots throwing terms they don't know anything about on FFXI AH. Then respond to every post with: tHATSZ noT hOW IT wOREKz ACCTUUAAALLYYYYY.

If you don't know how stupid statements like " LLM's are just giant multi-dimensional arrays where each dimension represents a unique value of that language and each data element represents the relationship of that value with every other value of that language" are, you shouldn't be talking about the subject or at least not correcting people.

You can legit google this and in less than minute you would know that the way Saevel talks is like a junkie that never made it, but likes to pretend they did. That's why he tries to be big here, not elsewhere.

Anyway, enough of this in RT.
I'm gonna have to push back again and say that you're using your position to push your political views and misrepresenting what Nynja actually said. If you want to say the topic is not appropriate, why is it appropriate for you to affirm that your view on it is 'the correct view' in the same post?

His comment was in regards to the behavior of companies, not individuals. If a 'return to normalcy' is a gaming company advertising to men and not displaying a pride banner, then his view of abnormal is a company using those techniques.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my issue with 'woke' culture is that corporate pandering rarely results in high-quality writing or character development. Making half of the cast LGBT and talking about in a game that isn't at all sexual isn't offensive because LGBT people exist, it's because the entire dialogue only exists to make sure we know they're included. It isn't relevant to the game and it breaks immersion.

If you want a good example of inclusive modern writing that doesn't sacrifice story, have a read through The Stormlight Archive, particularly the last couple books. That isn't what game companies have been putting out.

I'm not going to pretend everyone against it sees things the same way I do or that hate doesn't exist. But, I didn't see any hate in that thread.

As far as hosing that thread goes, it was what? The 5th or so in a long(ok not that long) line of, "We're gonna have P&R without calling it P&R." Because a lot of y'all can't help yourselves, and I got tired of issuing temp topic bans in RT when you didn't have a vent space.

I'm sure it won't be the last thread like that.

But I could have locked it at anytime, and most other mods would have.

I'm not so bothered by P&R type discussions, but they are technically against site rules explicitly. In this lens, Rooks or any other mod had every right to lock that thread at any time. Basically after like... page 3. Maybe page 5, if we wanna get technical about economics not technically be politics or religion, but heyyy don't tell the economists that.

So that thread had the grace of staying up for about 100 more pages than it should have.

And, again, it won't even be the actual final word, because someone is going to inevitably start a thread that is adjacent to the topics discussed within it, and such a thread will inevitably travel down similar roads (assuming Anna Banana or Dameshi(miss u) don't come back and start moderating regularly).

Rooks coming into lock it is more of a sign that the thread itself was bothering enough people that they PMed him or other mods who contacted him to correct for my slack.

It's less thought policing and more, "Hey we let you be rowdy since last September. Maybe you could not?"

We can't even infer the social structures of proto humans. We know what tools they made, and how they made and used them. We are starting to understand their migrations and interbreeding, their diets, and some of their hunting and gathering strategies.

We do have primitive human cultures to observe.

This is my last reply to this particular derail.

This is very refreshing to read and all we have been trying to convey.

Noone was saying to ask every rando person before checking (if you're on a primarily JP server and checking everyone regardless you'll probably make a bad reputation for yourself, but that's your choice lol)

But joining (I assume) a JP linkshell and being asked politely to just be respectful and polite about something/action, you just do it or remove yourself from that environment.

It's a tie between a bodyguard / soldier and a "girlfriend for an hour". Proto-human male who defended nice safe cave vs female who slept with him for access to that same safe cave.

Trigger warning: this response has nothing to do with AI.

In the last couple of centuries we have run across primitive tribal societies that have no leader class or soldier class, but do have shamans. I don't know if there have been any without pair bonding.

As far as safe cave access goes many profess to see marriage as simply long term contractual whoredom. I am not one of them.

I'm talking about proto-humans, which existed well over 100,000 years ago. The whole sex for resources / security exchange that forms the homo sapiens mating system has been around since before homo sapiens existed. Monogamy / structured religion are fairly new things for us. It's not discussed often because it becomes a fairly uncomfortable conversation but genetic analysis of male and female homo sapiens has the successful reproduction ratio of between 5:1 and 10:1 female to male. Essentially 80~95% of males never reproduced. Enforced monogamy seems to be how society found a way to motivate the formerly rejected males to contribute something useful.

If you need to default to "ask me first", you're creating a rule that does not exist. SE makes the rules.

There are also no law irl that says we need to say "excuse me" "thank you" "you're welcome" "may I?" when we interact with other people irl. Why do we still say those things all the time?

It's the same deal here. Social etiquette isn't a "rule" that you must follow. But if you are in a society(in this case, JP community) that a good number of people expect you to behave the certain way, not following it only puts you at an disadvantage when you interact socially.

(Just FYI, from my experience JP community actually has far more social expectations than just "ask before check", I can probably make a pretty long list here lol.)

A society also doesn't need logical reasons to expect people to behave in certain way. Social etiquette isn't rule/law based, it's pure human collective behavior.

If you never play on large JP server that are mainly JP, this social etiquette doesn't affect you. It only affects people who plays on JP heavy server and interact with JP community. For a mostly NA player server like Asura, this social etiquette is probably not as important because NA don't expect such etiquette, and Asura JP players are probably used to NA culture that they may not care that much.

For other players on other server, I think it's a good etiquette to follow if you intend to join JP party or LS. It doesn't really cost you anything to ask, and it creates a positive social impression. More pros to behave this way than cons imo.

There is nothing to get head hurt about this.

Irl, I dont concern myself with irrelevancies and /check is most definitely somewhere on the top of my list of irrelevancies considering we're also talking about a function inside a video game that does literally nothing to anybody but notify them.

That doesn't mean I dont say things like "thank you" in party/ls chat.

You're right tho, this is so high on the irrelevancy list that there's no reason to get a headache about it. I would probably also behave differently if I was surrounded by people who tell me I'm a *** behaving like that. Here, have a thumbs up.

What I expect from Relic and AF reforge is first and foremost an adjustment to the WS mod, which I expect it's gonna be AT LEAST 12% like Empy.
I wouldn't be surprised to see DT magically appearing somewhere, and then a generic but very small stat boost that can be applied to all pieces in an equal, automatic way, because I really don't see them manually adjusting and balancing 220 different pieces of armor.

Maybe some very rare exception here and there, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

Regardless, it's still gonna be interesting. Some AF pieces and some Relic pieces are still incredibly good. This update is gonna make them even better and, in turn, it's gonna make viable some other pieces which we no longer use.
Sounds good to me, no?

I've just gone with two orbs to palb because it was significantly faster. HP to palb and run a couple steps or tele-wtv and spend 7-10 min running through promy to get to the spire?

Yeah same.

Though perhaps the more annoying fights to get to might have a chance of better drops? Maybe no difference at all since the special rewards aren't direct drops from the fight, but who knows, maybe it does track which fight you did for purposes of loading the treasure pool for the chests near Shami. I dunno that I think it's likely, but can't say with confidence without any data.

never mind that you just need to edit 2 bytes of a packet to have it display any item in the message, pixel perfect. bonus points if you also edit the incoming item packet so it shows up in inventory. still a 5 min project for someone who knows a bit about windower/ashita apis

if someone wants to dupe people there's not really any form of verification that's thoroughly accurate

personally, i have no problem believing that cats eye, dense cluster, and 10k dyna pieces are extremely rare drops from this, campaign festa, and macrocosmic orb event

i also don't think it's worth trying to farm any of these sources for them, because there's nothing stopping SE giving rates lower than the powerball. if you only see it as worth trying with the 10k pieces, it's not really worth trying

Everybody in the party gets a key item, regardless of who's orb is used. Easy way to save seals. Must be inside BCNM to get KI.

Also worth remembering that Kindergarten Cap, Palborough Project, and V Formation are 3 person fights. We remembered that on the April 1 event when we brought 5 people to a fight and it wouldn't let us in.

But the Spire of Holla/Dem/Mea fights are 6man, so those are the ones that will give more free EP if you're using 4-6 players and everyone has an orb.

Wonder if there's any difference in drops between the Promyvion ones and the others...

Idk, the mog bonanza weapon give away seems to mark a new age of FFXI, one that they do not care about balanced progression.

One thing is considering that bonanza weapons are only marginally important to endgame.

Another complete different story is considering giving those to lv1 mules allows then to reach even reisenjima lvs at least with no effort.

So, if the rumors are true, i wont hold my breath it is barely achievable through normal means.
