Pretty much.

You also have to consider the relatively limited use, since BST often isn't going for WSD oriented physical WS. Primal Rend and Cloudsplitter will still use Nyame due to the MAB/WSD combo, so those are out. Decimation, Rampage, and lolRuinator won't use WSD.

So you're really left with upgrades only mattering for:
* Blitz (worthwhile boost, but limited to only those with Prime)
* Onslaught (limited to Guttler, generally still worse than just using a different weapon)
* Mistral Axe (kinda meh, but sometimes used so OK fine)

And Savage Blade.

That's pretty much what has always happened with past JSE armor set upgrades. Happened when they rolled out reforged 109/119 versions of old pre-ilevel AF/Relic/Empy armor that was good for nothing but JA macros until the ilevel versions released. Happened again when they released Omen and the +2/+3 versions of the reforged 119AF made those pieces relevant again. Happened again when they introduced 119Relic +2/+3 with Dyna Divergence. Happened yet again with Sortie and 119Empy +2/+3, which was an especially strong boost (and that's also the most recent example we've had, so these new upgrades taking a VERY different approach is a bit surprising).

This is really the first time we've ever seen new tiers of JSE armor where the upgrades are so meager that they result in almost no changes in gearing recommendations. If the previous AF/Relic+3 piece was still used in 2025, it remains worth using and gets a tiny stat bump. OK cool. But if you weren't already using a +3 AF/Relic piece for your TP or WS sets a month ago, you still aren't going to be using it now at +4. That's a bit of a bummer.

Maybe +5 gets some big jump, maybe NMs and additional armor sets or accessories are coming and will make things more interesting. But the initial reaction of disappointment to the +4 tier doesn't feel like it's just a matter of people having unrealistically sky high expectations.

I think if your bonanza choice has to be meaningful, you should target other content. It's not that much of a gap between AF/relic and empyrean so the difficulty of the content should adhere.

Besides, there's no bonanza weapon that allows you to break the unit cap :P

nothing on NW2 here but maybe its got some kind of spawn condition. time of day or day of week or idk. cuz the spot in NE3 I found, I absolutely 100% would have seen it the first time through.

hmm interesting. the ??? is still in the same spot. I came back to NE3 nothing out of ordnary. went out to entrance and back in. still same. wonder if its daily or weekly maybe. Weird I didnt see it before though.

New released FFXI content is always in full handbreaks mode where the time investment/reward ratio is far from the sweet spot. Best to not look at new content at all for at least 3-4 years.

Sucks that they'll release it spread out over multiple months, without knowing what we'll grind for the next decade I don't feel comfortable picking my bonanza weapon. Guess the resub will have to wait.

My own numbers to *** if its worth just killing fodder and skipping the chest:

I parked my chars (6, lvl 130) at one of the rooms where theres 10 mobs available. I'm doing roughly 7 kills every 90 sec, which would be about 3400 temenos units per hour. I didnt time my climb speed, but presuming just killing whats necessary for temp item and porting up, a temenos climb (again, 6 chars, lv130) would be worth 7930 units ((170*7*3)+(340*4)+3000) minimum. Presuming 4 minutes per NEW floor and 8 min per C floor, thats (7*4*3)+(8*4) = 116 minutes, lets just say two hours.

3400 units per hour just killing fodder vs 3965 units per hour doing the event properly.

If SE wanted to motivate people to jump areas and get the chest, the box reward needs to be a bit higher.

Finally saw a 3K ??? near the approach to the exit of NE3 ion apolly. Was 3 boxing. The char I played grabbed it and it vanished. no other pts and it vanished. wandered off to finish my kills. saw another ??? when I came back, possibly same location. other 2 got the 3K this time. "nothing out of ordinary" for the char that already had the bonus last time.

I did Temenos. I was on dd job ilvl 130, i got the 5k from chest and 5270 from the total. My geo mule got 3k from chest.

When you pull mobs or aggro them it assigns their level at the point in time. The running guesss is that when this happens the mob resets its status.

Compare the finished AF and relic to the finished empyrean. Didn't think I'd have to explain that part.


You will end up using mostly the same ***you use now, with a few pieces that get upgrades that make them useful. Ultimately, if you're current with other gear then you're already past the point of adequate, so it's not going to be meaningful anyway.

If I skillchain an enemy right away, it won't work. The skillchain does not register. However, if I claim a mob with another spell, and then begin the skillchain a few seconds later, it will register. It's like the mob takes a few seconds to decide what level it is, and attempting to skillchain immediately won't work. Anyone else experiencing this?

It probably resets their chain ready once it assigns their level, similar to silence.

I can get over the gear being mediocre, but the content is pretty stupid. Absolute disrespect of anyone's time. Each mob should be giving 170 and the chest should be the mechanism for raising the cap, like I will never understand why the FFXI devs think that people want to be playing this game like a job. This place just becomes a bot / merc farm in the next 2~3 weeks.

Seems like this was changed, my group ran and we saw "the anger of Gu'dha" after the elementalist died, as well as the DRK mob having the same DT as the boss, but seemed like he was taking damage during WS's? not super sure yet. seems like that anger move drops his DT 100% of the time too.
