Every one of these threads feels like a thinly veiled ad, especially with the way they rapidly summon people who haven't posted here since they played retail years/decades ago to defend them.
I wouldnt say it was an ad, maybe slightly as all videos need to be since im trying to grow a channel. So its more an ad for me than the server. I for one still play retail every few months or so, I still enjoy it to an extent, I just prefer the 75 era of the game. I dont ***on Retail and never will, a lot of people here subbed to my channel when I started my Return to Vanadiel series on YT and it was great, and some of them like my private server stuff to.
I'll never say one is better than the other, I'll just say I have a preference. At no point did I ever imagine a huge thread of bitching, insulting and anarchy would ensue from my post. I just wanted to share some XI content with folk. I find it insane whats been happening here since I posted the thread. |

It just feels purposely antagonistic. I don't know what the conversation was to get them their own section. Doesn't do what they intended though, I know that much.
It's never people on (server) talking to people on (server) or about (server) it's just civil war within 2 posts no matter what.

yeah.. this keeps being espoused like it was a massive coordinated attack when it was just draylo posting pictures of youtube comments on a few videos.. pretty sure that did not happen here, in any of the XI discords, on the subreddits, on BG, etc.
It was happening a lot and it was mostly Kipling doing it on socks, he was also the one throwing money around.
It was rampant on the XI reddit, any youtube video and other places. He could not control himself. |

I said the best star wars content is animated. Which is still true. But Andor has always been an exception to the small screen live action, which has almost universally been bad.
It is dramatically better than all the others, those first three episodes though. ugh.
I think I have to watch rogue one again too. So much back and forth. This year, that year, before this, after that, during this, when was that again. It's a lot.
Its a slow build, and it works for the show. Also, you can't watch Rogue One until Andor concludes next week. For obvious reasons. The entire point of Andor is to provide a direct lead in to Rogue One. |

Oh it's more than a little ridiculous - it's an absolutely absurd notion to pin all complaints about the community of a game on 3 people. If there are only 3 problematic people in an entire community, that would be a pretty amazing community.
That said, at the point in which I wrote that post I gave up any notion of trying to have any level of serious conversation on this topic with those people and have just reverted to trollbaiting the ffxiah-Karens.
Remember not to double up, stick to the normal dose. |

It would be too laughable if right the next season Mbappe goes to Real Madrid, the team loses everything, while the PSG wins the Champions League.

What I don't understand is why when retail enthusiasts see anything positive about private servers they proceed to ***all over it
fixed that for you, also we weren't always this way.
But then the fire nation attacked, I mean horizon launched. and we saw comments and posts on retail content with people saying "come play horizon it is better"
I used to only hate nasomi for constantly breaking people's retail installs who would come to the windower discord for help getting their retail to work. |

It was me, you know what you did, you didn't get suspended or topicbanned or anything else, so don't *** whine about it. Like, being totally fair, it wasn't awful, but take a look around, man, do some of these people seem like they can handle nuance
So, better to just nip that early and avoid actual problems. I think my track record of letting things mostly play out without interference is good enough that I get the benefit of the doubt on stuff like that.

I think it's hilarious to pin the problems with the retail community on a handful of forum posters who have all contributed more to the XI community knowledge base than any of the I'm sure very real and rich PS players.
What I don't understand is why PS enthusiasts spend so much time trying to convince other people who play retail that their experience is so great. If it is, go play it and leave us here to derail retail threads by page 2

There has always been some kind of weird mental block with people over a sub, it's like people don't just see the number but instead become fixated on doing the calculations about if they will use the service enough to get the "worth out of" that $12 ($3 a week) to an unreasonable degree.
It's like people will waste money on anything from overpriced coffee, snacks, games they never play on steam, twitch donations, tips for fast food delivery etc and throw money down the drain constantly but suddenly become highly economical with their monocle and calculator out when it comes to a sub.
It makes no sense, but it's how peoples minds work.
So yes it is a thing.

Over in the PS thread i was responding to Iamaman and remembered a story from my predecessor in my department at work.
He told me when the company moved into the building where it is in now, they put "the computer" in the "A wing" and our factory is in the "H wing". he had dumb terminals in the H wing connected to the computer in the A wing that he would use to edit the code for our manufacturing systems, but when he compiled he had to walk to the A wing insert a 8inch floppy compile the code onto the floppy and walk back to put it into the test system and see it fail, fix the bug and repeat.
It is the best "When I was a kid we walked to school uphill both ways" stories
And I love that old man for sharing that story with me :D really painted a vivid picture for me.
(for perspective the walk is just over 1000ft, one way, just finished walking it out of my own curiosity)
Sad thing is that if you let that company do it they'd probably still be using that same system. "It's our most profitable line" then you'd think you'd want to modernize it. That being said "modern" isn't always better. But sometimes it is difficult to get parts to fix the older equipment.
Not to mention if you slap Allen Bradley on it the cost just went up a few 0's. |
