I'm still in decision paralysis on this. The jobs I play are RDM/WAR/PLD/BLU, and RDM is my preferred job for content. I also play THF, but that's mostly just for farming Omen so I don't really need to take that into much consideration here. It looks like I should take the shield or one of the swords... but it's so hard to decide even with all the discussion.

BLU BRD GEO seems to offer similarly as much as BLU BRD COR. Different contexts are going to make one of the supports shine more than the others. Between Mighty Guard or an Entrusted Haste you can cap magic haste for 10 minutes without relying on a BRD and get Indi-Fury + Chaos Roll + Geo-Frailty. Likewise, you can use the Minuet x3 + Honor March instead and get Chaos and SAM.

Meanwhile on your main you've got options for skillchains, buffs, debuffs, self and party heals, etc. What you're missing out on with BLU isn't much.

Outside of a thought experiment, the thing to do is really just to have options. I often use BRD GEO if tribox, but depending on the content or what the third is may opt for others. Nevermind that you're not entering Odyssey Gaol without having a few 99s on each anyway.

Personally, I think BLU is the thing to start with for the DD/tankish slot. It's not so much what you enable for mid-high/high end content, though BLU is still pretty solid there. It's more that if you're starting from scratch - much less doing multiple accounts from scratch - you are going to be very hard pressed to beat the sheer utility of having the top cleaving job on hand.

So you think FBII x 2 is better than Last Stand to Savage Blade with naegling? Not sure on that.

I have played with both, Kinas and K123. Both really good players. 10/10 recommend!

While the initial Kalunga trial I was a part of was to see if DNC could crank out the damage to be a main damage dealing source, I very much like the approach discussed here where DNC is a support-focus to enable others (BLU etc.) to shine in the fight. While the damage was unimpressive during the fight I tried, the sword granting viability to creating new comps is quite interesting.
But the argument was about what is optimal, not what is viable. Don't let Simonses+Thorny+Maletaru move the goalposts so they can claim victory when they are blatantly wrong and know it.
the fact that they don't want to "argue" with you because you're acting unhinged is completely lost on you isn't it?
What is your char name then? Why are you so ashamed of yourself?
it's kinas on asura, you probably haven't seen me online in the last 4-5 years though. nbd

Exeter gun totally not worth it when you can make an infinite supply of rema ammo.

Yeah Veo 3 voice and mouth movement is insane. I'm more interested to know when someone makes an MCP for FFXI since LLMs can play Minecraft and Pokemon already. Can't be long until they can play a DD in FFXI lol

So what are you saying the DPS is with 60% Tomahawk and 30% WC? Still higher than 22500 right? Hence thank you for proving my point.

You can't even do a simple math. It's less than 22500.
I can, but the onus is on you Simon so you can do the math. Anyway, thanks for proving a DNC might be stronger than a WAR on a crawler. This theory proves everything!

I really don't understand how or why the Besieged bosses suddenly start taking damage. It seems to possibly be timed to the percentage of enemies left, I'm not sure. Whatever it is, they only seem to start taking damage like a minute before everyone just warps away, so the window for killing them is incredibly small. I don't know if this is intentional or not.
It's also worth mentioning that up until whatever the trigger is that allows them to take damage, they also completely resist all debuffs even dia and inundation.

The new google video generator is crazy.

YouTube Video Placeholder

Not only can it create the video but all the sound for it too, and it's near perfect because google has vast amounts of video data on youtube to train it on.

Large numbers of people in the creative industries are going to be replaced in the next 10 years, CGI artists, actors, voice actors, artists, musicians, coders, writers and all the unions that propped them up. It's crazy how fast it's progressing and how little our governments are doing to get the populations ready for being put out of work enmasse.

Movie companies, video game companies are all going to be able to replace most of their workforce and nobody is going to be able to do anything about it. Creativity isn't going to have any bargaining power soon.

Microsoft said a few days ago that 30% of all the code for windows is now AI generated.

The middle and upper middle class mocked the working class for years about being fearful of mass immigration taking away their bargaining power for work, now they get to see how it feels I guess.

It's also like this for BLU, thought less effective with TP bonus offhand instead of ranged. Still cool to have a proper strong self light SC on BLU.

So, has the math people beaten Kalunga with the DNC setup yet?

Why are we bringing DNC to a Kalunga fight? Is it because the math people have demonstrated, in the fight, that they can kill it with 6-7 mins left?

Simonsess, show me a video of you killing it with DNC and I will show you one with WAR-BLU killing it with 2-3x more time left on the clock.

It's worth mentioning but I'm pretty sure Kalunga will overwrite Defense Down from Shell Crusher or Armor break when he uses Blistering Roar, so RUN would need you reapply it with Gaxe and rayke after aura to maintain as high of DPS for other DDs as possible. Sims don't account for things like that in their DPS estimations, so whatever DPS it is showing will obviously be lower at certain points.

Yeah I would save RD, WC and another RD to reset Rayke cooldown if Roar happens too soon after Armor break application. There is really no other strong use case for WC and RD in this setup. BLU requires 1-2 Diffusion reset, but it should happen naturally if you target Rayke, unless you are somehow super unlucky to get 3 Roars in first 5 minutes of the fight, but then you are in trouble anyway XD

Total with 25%DT:
WAR+BLU+COR+BRD: 21150
with Tomahawk: 23625
with WC: 24750
with WC and Tomahawk: 27225
with WC+Tomahawk+WAR MS: 30112
Keep in mind tomahawk will be up 60% of the time and Warcry like maybe 30%. Now this is super unrealistic dps for BLU who also cures and it's a huge loss, because if he only dps, he would be the main DD. BLU in this setup will drop his personal dps to like 7000, so regular group DPS will be more like 19k and 21k with Tomahawk
So what are you saying the DPS is with 60% Tomahawk and 30% WC? Still higher than 22500 right? Hence thank you for proving my point.

I'm finding it hard to get into Andor season 2. Just really boring.. and why does everyone suddenly have British accents? In the real movies they were all American accents for the most part.

The first few episodes are pretty slow, it speeds up about halfway through and escalates from there. The whole wedding thing combined with the politics was a bit weird pacing

I don't believe the 5K DPS of DNC, it has been called out that you claimed BLU DPS would be lower because of curing (which doesn't use TP) but then put DNC at the max possible DPS ignoring time and TP used on cures, etc. Sorry but this theorycraft is *** and the maths are skewed as I expected they would be.

You are blind and trolling at the same time now.

I posted 4300 for DNC and I have said it would be closer to 5000 with flourishes. Total DPS was 23958 with 4300 from DNC (multiplied by 0.75%, because of 25%DT), then I said DNC would lose like half of his dps because of curing and I have said it would be around 22.5k then. I was being generous to only subtract 26% from BLU DPS if he is curing and total dps would then drop slightly below 20k.
I will ignore any posts in this thread from now, because clearly we won't agree and you will keep dropping a troll bombs on me.
Right so clearly show the numbers showing you used 2500 then. Guesstimating numbers isn't mathematical proof though. "saying" 5000 doesn't mean it would be 5000, you guessed that.

The Exeter btw, says all stackable ammo will not be consumed. So the best way to use it would be in a shooting heavy fight with Aeonic Gun's bullets. It has no magical damage component at all, so it is the suxxorz. Voluspa Bullets aren't bad, but they're really not that expensive either, and shooting heavy fights are rare depending on how you play.

Given the meticulous nature of the prime ws thread, it’s actually insane to me we’re this deep on a ‘new’ weapon/ws and no one has posted some actual data. And what’s more, it must have been done before as the ftp and wsc are known on bg wiki.

Surely there must be an OS3 owner out there who understands how to gear a ftp replicating ws and take down some parse data vs a relatively high level target with varying buffs. Perhaps even a savage/rudra’s control.

Thanks!

Define high level target? Apex? Also sim exists and is much better for a controlled "test". I tried it on Apex with trusts with right WS gear. WS damage was around 30-60k with spikes to 80 and I did 99k with capped attack, 3000TP (thibron offhand) and Ternary/building flourish.

This is obviously a quick and dirty test, but here it is.

Thanks for providing some helpful data!

FWIW, similar 2hr sim setup for me with same ML/buffs and basically same WS sets (except swapping Ephramd's for Cornelia's). TP sets prob vary a bit (I used a pretty standard 5/5 Malignance set). I am getting Heishi still with higher overall DPS, lower WS avg. Some of the difference may be down to timing of WS (I set a TP range of 1250-1750 for Heishi, and 1750-2250 for Dokoku).

Can you run the Dokoku sim again but with Tp range at 1250? With TP bonus offhand, Mpaca Cap, and Moonshade, you are immediately at 2450 effective TP once you hit 1k so I think Dokoku does best when basically firing at will. Just curious what you get number wise in that scenario.

I definitely wouldn't go with BLU over a standard high powered DD. I love BLU, but learning all of the spells is a major chore and slow down that the other two characters barely help with it.

I stand by WAR RDM BRD. It's a good blend of physical with plenty of magical damage. With each job also able to provide slashing/piercing/blunt. WAR and RDM can even do makeshift archery builds. All spells can be bought and/or farmed while you grind up to 99, depending on how you handle your grind.

Since you're also specifying the least job changes possible, are you looking at 1 job for subjobs and done for each? Or will you grind all applicable subs or?

Cause if it's 1 sub and done for each, well uhh... SAM sub for WAR and SCH sub for both RDM and BRD. You can lean on a WHM Trust for Stona until MLs. Also means 1 less run around for unlocks, if you're not unlocking every job/getting every applicable sub.

It does beg the question then, as has already been raised numerous times, if DNC doing 0 damage still results in allegedly better overall DPS from BRD+COR+BLU to the point you can kill it allegedly with ease and no need for the WAR then why noone is using it already and

MORE IMPORTANTLY

WHAT IS THE ARGUMENT FOR TAKING THE GOD DAMN SWORD AS IS THE SUBJECT OF THE THREAD?

My guess is that hasn't been done because nobody has approached it the way Simon has been implying. I.e armor break or shell crusher with rayke, DNC-fully supporting so Blu can full dd entire fight and apply mighty guard. Onion sword from his perspective just allows DNC to break up WS wall and nothing more in this setting.

I think the problem here is Simon is using specific strategy and execution, but others are looking at DNC like Warrior DPS replacement instead of as a support job that allows BLU to fill the WAR spot. Everyone wants to discuss how "worth it" Onion Sword is (meh) for DNC where it's merely a very minor component in the overall fight.
