XIV, at one point, was my favorite game to play and addictive like crack cocaine.
This varies inversely with how new you are to it, and how good the story and gameplay systems are.
Every player goes through a honeymoon phase with it. Generally lasts a year or two past the current point where a major expansion plateaus.
I got majorly addicted to it from 2.0 until about 5.5. During 4.0~4.55 I started to fall out of my honeymooning with it, and started to get real critical of it, and even engage in doomspeak about it. Then the finale to 4.55 was chock full of FFVI references and strong story beats. Followed by it blowing the *** out of the water with Shadowbringer's 5.0 storyline.
However, Shadowbringers also gutted the gameplay rigor for tanks and healers but discontent remained out of sight due to the powerful narrative, and just enough original content that it was still a very fun expansion. Tack on a little Matsuno storyline in Bozja, and the hook remained.
6.0 had the hype train of what came before it that really drove Endwalker's sales, but as I have opined before, it failed to deliver but people were blinded by the hype.
7.0 was garbage, and the gameplay is heavily diluted from what it once was. Same principles for any GCD based real time action, but largely without any nuance or metacomposition being possible within the confines a job system that was supposed to be all about doing just that on a fight by fight basis. They gave up by 5.0 and started the homogenization then, and it was largely complete by 6.0, and 7.0 watered it down further.
Every time you think, "Surely it can't get any simpler." they strip something else away. Even to the point where they delete combos or make combos irrelevant by letting you do other skills in the middle of them without cancelling your combo.
TL;DR - XIV went from being a game centered on its gameplay with a good narrative, to being a cinematic game centered on its narrative with a side of gameplay. The narrative's now bad too, btw. So, nah, it's no longer good.

Yup, stuck trying to get into the regular Dynamis Windurst. Two others in the LS reported the same problem, but different zones they were entering.

i mean is xiv actually a ***game though? there's a lot of data that suggests it's been at least passable (as much as this one is!) for over 10 years.

Not to hate on XIV but it's wild to me how incompetent the management of the game is at this point.
It's operating on 5 platforms now (potentially to be released on another soon with Switch 2), which limits what it can make as opposed to if it was PC only (they limit the content based on the weakest platform) and greatly increases how long it takes to make each patch (patch validation to consoles is famously problematic, since it has to be verified by Microsoft and Sony). They also will have to deal with potential censorship demands over storylines and cosmetics for companies like Microsoft (which impacts all platforms).
All platforms are combined on the same servers, which again causes great problems. If Microsoft for instance decided to not verify a patch, they can't release the patch for any platform till they do.
They also run versions of the game for other regions like China.
They are stretching their developers more and more, and forcing them to create numerous builds of the game. They also support far too many languages.
The type of content it creates is exclusively hyper casual with high drop rates, which means it lasts a shorter duration before new content has to be made. The content they make is incredibly expensive to create due to requiring large teams and high graphical fidelity.
The main saving grace is the RP / Modding community that mostly came from Second Life and effectively make their own content, cause they will hang around no matter what. However this also means they cannot add any kind of cheat detection system, out of fear of losing these people.
This is why WoW is so dominant, they kept to one platform and have more hardcore content that lasts longer. XIV is extremely bloated and difficult to work on, and WoW is trim and efficient by comparison.
Ontop of all this YoshiP seems fixated with creating more single player games from the core group of developers of the unit that was made purely for online games. Stretching his developers even more. Japan has strict labor laws, which means they refuse to hire many new people due to not being allowed to lay anyone off. Which is obviously a problem and leads to burn out when they overwork the ones they have.
I'm not a fan of either game, but this is purely an observation of the way the games are managed.
I read about 3 words into that and then I thought to myself...you really do talk too much.

For sure! Others seemed to be getting pushback for looking for a group on here, so I wasn't sure if this may have been the right venue for new/returning players haha.
I'm also not 100% sure on when teaming up is expected vs soloing.

For well over my 20 years of playing this game I rarely cared about how my Mog House looked. A little while ago I saw someone’s and it inspired me to start decorating my own. It’s been my pet project on slow days and it’s brought my countless hours of joys.
I’m around ~150/160 items in mine currently. Unfortunately, I think I have too many moving pieces or ones that make sound so people crash in it sometimes. Overall, I’m glad that I finally took the time to work on it.
Show off your Mog House and the decorations you’ve obtained throughout the years! Also, tell me whether or not you've ever bothered to decorate it before.
Seriosuly incredible! Some questions, as I've never invested so much into furnishings:
1.) Are those Tarutaru mannequins pose-able? (The ones that are wearing Korrigan/Watermelong mandragora outfits?) If so, I didn't know this was possible...
2.) What is that Qirin box?
3.) What frame is that with the purple corners?
Maybe just screenshot your storages? haha ...I've never seen a lot of those items. Great job!!

Wow, this looks very meticulously crafted!

When should I consider looking for a linkshell to do events and stuff? I'm certainly not going to come out of the box ready for v1vd or idk what's popular now, CPing in sih gates?

The unspoken rule when you play BRD is: If you want songs, stay nearby. It is everyone's individual responsibility to stand near the bard when songs are wearing/BRD announces resing, or you are SOL. Usually this is done (in segs or whatever) when everyone is clustered on a few Nostos group pulls, so there's no need to run off. If you're on your own soloing in the corner and the rest of the group was smart enough to stay close for buffs, that's totally on you.

What's stupid is telling someone that apparently wants to do current to server transfer and let a guy do it for him.
Moronic responses holding the guy back or missing the point.
Move to Asura and I'll do it for you. Don't listen to these guys telling you to stay behind for years because they're role players or something bizarre.

Because in actual play when you need to buff 5 other idiots that won't sit still for that critical 30s you just need that extra time.
One day, BRD will get songs that makes those 5 other idiots smarter ...or just better players. Please look forward to it.

The worst part of all that is that XI has to share their resources, which means we are dead last for almost any kind of dev time. For a piece of crap game that is so vapid and soulless. Only held up by people who don't know what a good game is and just like the graphics.

Not really, noone does omen or vagary regularly in groups anymore and he needs to gear up for newer content. I'm pretty sure I'm on point. Sorry if saying he needs to get better is offensive to you.
Are you expecting a casual player to farm up a Caladbolg, miraculously kill Kalunga, solo the content that he clearly said he's running into a brick wall wall with... Solo?
I don't think your advice is offensive. It's just stupid.
To OP; if you're interested in server transferring Lakshmi has a guy that does Omen/Vagary daily earlier in the day which you'd probably be able to attend on the weekends. I'd also help you out with getting geared up as well.
I would definitely work on getting your GEO & RDM geared up. Those are very useful and scale well into end game. Cor too, but that's a very popular low entry job that you may be fighting a spot for.

It isn't offensive, it's absurd. People do still make groups for all levels of content, you know. Guy just wants to find people to play with and you have to come ***on him saying he's not good enough until he has bought a Kalunga clear and made a Caladbolg. In and of themselves those milestones are good things, however they are not minimum requirements for the things he wants to do.
Quote: he needs to gear up for newer content
For ***'s sake that's exactly what he's trying to do. Did he say anywhere he wants only full clear seg runs and V20 wins out of the gate?

great, but the guy is tired of soloing and wants to play with other people. you're missing the entire point here.

On Lakshmi, the Temenos ??? did not move (or rerolled to the exact same spot) this week and does not give points to anyone who got the bonus units last week. Those who report that they didn't touch it last week are getting units.
Apollyon's ??? moved spots and gives units as normal.

never cared to decorate much early on
after I had most relics most empy all capped jobs all capped skill all capped crafts
the main thing I did was delvl rdm back to 75 from 99 to do 75 content sky and sea gods ash dragon 75 hnms for fun
during that time I realized my mh wasn't complete and I decided to spend the gil to buy just about all the furnishings and really make it special
because I had just about everything 100% done in game and I only saw it as another thing to fully complete like building all relics or all empy
when I finally got all my bonecrafting guild items I had to get the star globes to cap my elemental strength I'm not exactly a huge fan of need like 12 of them to cap dark strength but it works
now instead of making it more decorated I just make sure I have my ele strengths maxed with my stalls and guild items the chocobo trophies don't really mess with my ele strengths and I think they look good
when Kaoriasada and I were really close she would come over all the time and we had a fish in the aquarium we would watch together

The implementation also not being bot-friendly is a welcome addition, especially on asura. Theres already bots farming units on my server
But the halved reward is sufficient hinderance as its a significantly worse reward/hr A lot of people are going to be waking up at their home point.

There might be a good chance the Temenos ???
Is triggered by killing a certain mob
Buddy reported finding the ???
The day after i went through all the floors
Killing every single mob once
I suggested it earlier but it fell on deaf ears
I wouldnt be surprised if the one in temenos was broken
OR it pops up randomly when one specific mob dies.
Considering the temenos layout compared to apollyon, that would explain why there are less reports of it in Temenos. Temenos has one direct route between portals with mobs in separate groups, whereas in Apollyon you can fan out between portals and the mobs are all over the place.
There were also people who went in both zones and did some packet tomfoolery and deduced the ??? wasnt up in either zone after maint.
I did a couple runs through and wound up clearing out everything along the way over the 5 runs, other than central because it has more sets of mobs than needed, and I dont think I've popped it yet.
Either:
A-it pops after the mob despawns and I'm running away too quick.
B-its in central
C-theres some other condition, but I'm highly skeptical of that one.
