THF in Omen makes about a stack of 99 swart a week (worth around 9 mill)
I aeolian edge alongside my Fell Cleave war, but solo thf is fine with aoe/non aoe kills

Gonna be funny if those 2 items are for a future limbus update or a new htb and they just tossed it in there to mess with people

So what you're saying is, Yagyu Darkblade?

It's soloable on VD in 2026. Watch out for Light Blade, full DT isn't enough, it usually hits for roughly 2500, shadows help significantly. Fetters die to ~2 weapon skills or you can walk away from their aura. I don't fully understand all of his mechanics but at one point a duplicate spawned at around 15% and they both used Light Blade simultaneously. Ninja or Red Mage are good for this. Trusts will fall over to Great Wheel unless you have some aoe healing like Selh'teus. D is substantially easier, anything below is likely braindead.

Get THF to 99 and begin farming content like Dynamis.

Fujito answered a free trial question in a recent (relatively) Gamer Escape interview (https://gamerescape.com/2025/07/04/we-asked-producer-yoji-fujito-11-questions-about-the-past-present-and-future-of-final-fantasy-xi/)
"Gamer Escape: Compared to Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy XI’s free trial is quite limited. Has there been any talk about possibly opening up the FFXI free trial to allow players to have more time with it?
Yoji Fujito: That’s something we’ve been considering for some time, seeing as the free trial is currently limited to 14 days and has a level cap.
Nowadays, we have Trusts which assist with solo play early on and serve as a good introduction to FFXI.
Free trial accounts have always had strict limitations to prevent abuse. While there are some who abuse the system (primarily real-money trading vendors), if we can curb their ability to disrupt the service using the trial, we might be able to consider relaxing the restrictions in the future."
So, no plan on changing it right now.

also, if you're specifically trying to fund gear and not something else, consider camping some NMs for that real old school experience. can get a peacock charm pretty easily with no competition and relaxed spawn timers, and that will last 60 levels. none of what you camp will be of any use at 99 for long, but can provide alternative things to do if you don't want to rush. still costs time instead of gil, so may not be for everyone.

What are some good methods for making gil that you'd recommend? I'd like to learn some good repeatable money making methods if possible at where I am in the game so far. I'm a level 30 RDM & 15 THF if that helps any
I don't want to generalize, but gil is mostly irrelevant sub 99. I would recommend getting to Level 99 as fast as possible, as that is going to allow you to make larger amounts of gil much faster. There's really nothing you can farm at that level that will net you a good income, besides what Vyre mentioned with repeatable Records of Eminence quests and spending Accolades and Sparks.
There's a few quests that reward some scrolls or whatever that might be worth some gil (Drain, Aspir etc, check your server's prices on them). But they're not repeatable.

don't invest any money into getting to 99. use sparks to buy weapon upgrades as available.
if you insist on wearing any armor, get the level 50 sparks set > quest your AF > abyssea gear at 78.
trusts are significantly stronger than players under 99, and not long after, significantly weaker.

Was one of the nastiest HTBC in the HTBC era, too. Don't think a whole lot of people were doing VD on release, I remember trying quite a few strategies and never getting it to feel totally reliable.
IIRC, we shot it down with RNGs (as everything back then). Fetters were a nightmare and we didn't have GEO back then to cut incoming damage. Also, Light Blade could wreck tanks, though I think with Aegis most PLD were fine. It should be a cakewalk now but I haven't tried soloing that guy in a long time

No one has found ilvl Kamlanaut stuff yet??

RUN/NIN tank keeping Foil up made Light Spear miss quite often and Utsusemi blocking Great Wheel to avoid getting hate reset with Inspiration keeping recast low was how I did it back then. Then all DDs sub nin to avoid Great Wheel damage and someone on Stun duty for spells to avoid fetters from popping.

key word here
There is 12 years of power creep. This fight even predates ilvl relic. I'm not saying ilvl relic is great, I'm just saying thats how old this fight is.
And yes, I wholeheartedly agree that back in 2013/2014 this fight was a PITA. But its not 2013/2014. They've added UNM equipment and its augments, Ambuscade equipment, Odyssey equipment, 119+3 versions of AF/Relic/Emp.

Hello FFXIAH!
I'm a new player whos finally getting far enough into the game where I'm needing more and more gil, and selling stacks of crystals, crayfish, and moat carps isnt cutting it anymore.
What are some good methods for making gil that you'd recommend? I'd like to learn some good repeatable money making methods if possible at where I am in the game so far. I'm a level 30 RDM & 15 THF if that helps any
Thank you everyone for your time! :D
Make sure to have the repeatable ROE objectives active at all times, so that you are constantly earning Sparks and Unity Accolades.
Every Sunday, the Sparks and Unity vendors reset how many Sparks/Accolades you can spend, and you can spend Sparks and Accolades on Acheron Shields and Prize Powder, which you can then sell to NPCs to produce gil every week. If you cap out your Sparks and Accolades at 99999 and convert them all into Shields/Powder and sell, it nets you right around 2 million gil a week.
Also make sure to pick up Signet from your Nation's gate guards. You'll earn Conquest Points which you can do the same thing with. Spend on certain gil, and sell to NPCs. Generally the rank 3 two handed weapons have a positive conq points/gil ratio, and are solid to sell across the board.
Other than that, try to level up more, as you'll get access to better gil making methods the stronger you get, but these are stable through lines available to all players at all levels, they just take play time to accrue. :)

A better free trial for FFXI would bring in *huge* amounts of people. Most won't stick around long term, but some surely will.
Setting any jokes aside, why haven't they fixed their free trial yet?

My WAR/NIN comes with TH4 in an equipset. I prefer having guaranteed red procs and take the slight hit from TH8 down to TH4 so I can get a good rhythm going and zone out.
Worth mentioning also for QoL stuff if you're still at it OP: I set up red proc macros to equip the 1DMG weapon and also fire off the weaponskill if I have TP. Sort of a one-button deal that makes the whole thing easier.

Farming gold boxes on Chigoes is fine if Tunga didn't give you the KI. Hopefully, you can get the Crawler KI while doing this, which would save you having to move over to get it. Otherwise, it's too random to rely on, so I wouldn't stick around if it's the only KI needed for a set.
discounting unlucky streaks I wonder if this is really true. over the course of 50 scales would you save time refusing to leave chigoes or always making the trip (legit) to eruca when it was the only missing KI.

I give it even odds the new ilvl stuff has nothing to do with the event and the timing is just Fujito trolling us.

Did the curator Moogle have anything pertaining to the archduke?
As an added bonus, the NPC "Curator Moogle" will be available to trade with you for reissued items based on Kamlanaut.
Nope. Maybe it's something planned for a later wave when they re-run the event later in the year.

Helix and patience might work (i think you'll risk timing out?), but sch nukes don't do a lot on him.
I think 1 helix did over 10% though.
His moves are pretty nasty.
Ranged/pet damage is the way to go .

Which sets you augment depends on what jobs you play, for instance if you want phalanx augment for PLD you'd typically go for odyssean as I think it has a bit more defensive focus and iirc feet have SRID by default but odyssean armor set only has WAR/PLD/DRK on it while valorous has WAR/PLD/DRK/BST/SAM/DRG. As you see you could make a argument to go for valorous if you play those extra jobs and want to make use of +phalanx on those, since you multibox anyway you might have a RDM main already that could phalanx one of your alts...
If you have access to high augmented Nyame there are probably not many WSD augs worth keeping and if you're lucky and get one with high stat mod, WSD and acc/att or matt/macc you could still make a case against it cause nyame has much higher defense stats. For all jobs on the herculean set I'd say hands and feet are best to target WSD since they natively already have triple attack.
I think you could look out for refresh augments if you want to and maybe a selected few jobs like PLD can make use of shield block rate but other than that dark matter augments became uninteresting.
