WC - Though this is common to EU, NA players usually call it restroom or bathroom rather than water closet.
Noone in British English, where "water closet" is from, ever actually uses that name. I think the JPs started using it first, assuming it was actually used in English, and everyone adopted it from there.

Though I haven't been to the UK, I can confirm seeing WC on signage for restrooms in Mexico. There are tons of words for 'toilet', but WC is widely used probably because it's the easiest to acronym.

If I recall, wc is more of a French thing. No one in the UK calls it that, although 'water closet' originated here. It is either the toilet, loo, bog, crapper, john, bathroom, gents, ladies, or lavatory (lav for short) / washroom if you're posh. There are likely other slang names for it depending on region.

I remember when I was in a JP party in CN and I asked what that meant, and was told to just look at it. Took me a while.

One of the most iconic to me is "DEFFFEENNNDDINNGG" from excited Italians at KB, also that shout BOOSTA macro in dunes.

Yes but the Japanese would have translated it online or been taught it and assumed it was in use, hence they created the use of WC in ffxi

UK was just usually just toilet or bog irl among friends, WC did seem a Japanese thing.

It's kind of funny looking back and screenshots and things, everyone was so much more polite and reserved in how they talked in groups compared to how people are now. People think nothing of just saying "brb p**s", if you did that back in the day everyone would be disgusted and think you're a complete savage hooligan.

I still say brb wc because it is quick and polite, although I'd never say that in person, lol.

I still use 'brb wc' too but I'm also from Hades>Cerberus so it was probably a server specific thing too.

I also don't recall ever seeing "orz" outside of XI, though I'm sure it's not necessarily an XI exclusive...

Orz is a Japanese and Chinese internet emoticon, not an English thing. So you won't see it if you always read English forums.

In FFXI it is probably used because of Japanese community. It is not really FFXI exclusive imo.

orz is a stickman on his hands and knees with his head on the floor, it's supposed to indicate something going wrong or a bad thing. Never seen it outside of XI either.

○| ̄|_ = orz

I've only ever seen it used when something bad happens.

Ex.
Me: "We waited 2 hours for a bard to flag and when we finally get to camp, the tank dc'd ><;;"
You: "orz"

yes, the NA community originally understood "orz" to mean when something bad happened or you felt bad for someone. This is the JP emoji for bowing down I later understood. Of course, the context can change but the emoji is iconic to FFXI.
