Do you understand the only way a dictatorship is going to change from inside the country is with a massive bloodbath?
So, it's ok for millions of people to suffer for generations, but not ok for thousands to die to change the suffering?

There is a difference between a revolution in North Korea vs. a revolution in Canada, by the way...

For the umpteenth time I find myself wondering if some people really believe the ***they say or if they just hope we're dumb enough to think their nonsense is true.

Look, KN. We get it. The status quo is good to you and rocking the boat has potential repercussions.

But please don't sit here and try to tell us that the people of North Korea are in a position to revolt. We're talking about a nation where even talking about change can get you and three generations of your family imprisoned in a labor camp or outright executed.

I mean, if the U.S. had that standard, every Texan who has proposed a secessation from the U.S. would be dead, as would his wife, parents, and children.

And many of them don't fully recognize the outside world is "better".

Looks like Rand Paul is filibustering his fellow Kentuckian senator's Patriot Act renewal, how embarrassing for Mitch McConnell.
Embarrassing a republican (or most politicians for that mater) is rather like making a jackal barf.

So, what is your solution then? We should liberate them because of "feels"?

Isn't that exactly what happened in Iraq? Where people are suffering and we decided to take down a dictatorship so they can be more free than they were before? Except how is that going for them so far?

Let's learn from our mistakes for once in our lives and not create a new, exact same problem as before.

But hey, anything to help with the feels, right?

Let's just take over the world and force our ideas on the rest of the world and get it over with. Might as well.

What happened in Iraq was never about the people. I thought we were all fairly clear on that. ^^;

Say "feels" again. Really. It's such a compelling retort.

So, tell me, was this war about oil? How much did we take from OPEC again? Oh right, nothing.

How about for WMD? Did we find any? What does looking for WMD have to do about removing a dictator from power? If Iraq was really about removing WMD, why did we take Hussain from power? We could have just taken his toys and left him alone...

Also, feels.

The rational is found in the Project for the New American Century.

"Rebuilding America's Defenses" – A Summary
Blueprint of the PNAC Plan for U.S. Global Hegemony

I suggest you at least familiarize yourself with it.

P.S. The Iraq war was not an "honest mistake" and it was neither honest nor a mistake.

Actions speak louder than words, you know that, right?

Also: Main point of Iraq War is to topple the dictatorship (shock)

Invading Iraq on the premise of vengeance wasn't a good thing.
But was the invasion a good thing, regardless of the premise?

Answer the question in whole please.

For who?

Certainly not for the average American, and far as I can tell, not for the average Iraqi...

If you're in the oil business, though...if you had government defense contracts at the time...

Well, we can blame the previous administration for starting the Iraq War (plus Hillary and other Dems who voted for it), but nobody seems to be talking about who's responsible for letting the cities that required so much American bloodshed to win fall into the hands of ISIS.

Billions in taxpayer dollars up in smoke.
Iraq in civil war between Sunni and Shia factions.
ISIS given a seeding ground between Iraq/Syria.
Iraqi soldiers who aren't loyal to their 'nation' / in it for the money resulting in undoing all US gains.
Tons of US equipment left behind / seized by jihadists.
Ongoing Saudi / Iranian power struggle intensifies.

What exactly did we 'gain' in Iraq again? Don't hand me the dictator toppled argument either because the world is full of 'em and we give no *** until it affects the bottom line. When we aren't shaking hands and breaking bread with 'em.

And now if the Iran nuclear deal falls through the eyes will turn to 'dealing' with Iran. The hawks gonna hawk. Ready for more war? Another evil regime needs changing.

Look, I will never say that the Iraq War II wasn't a mistake.

But I am saying that, instead of harping on it for the rest of our lives (memories of Vietnam anyone?), let's learn from it and move on.org.

Yeah, blame those stupid Iraqi soldiers for constantly dropping their weapons and running away.
